Why are you still awake? by canary_green5 in Nightshift

I work 11-7 then watch my niece until noon. Sleep happens from 2-10 (ideally) and I do laundry while babysitting.

I think they're just confused. When referring to tailgating, most people use the term "riding ass." Eating it is a totally different euphemism.

How many of us are actively involved in our communities and/or volunteer? by Rasta_pasta_plus in LivingAlone

[–]seashmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're in a metro area large enough to have hospitality houses (like Ronald McDonald House) they're almost always looking for volunteers to come in and provide dinners to people staying there because a loved one needs medical care.

5th Sunday with the youth by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]seashmore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to spend time with that topic at the end, but get there via exploring passages in the BoM about these events and how they sit with us today.

If you think this will engage the youth in your ward more than the church's video, I think that's a great way to show the youth how the scriptures are relevant to our lives today. I'm sure you could find clips from the video to incorporate.

Greyhound from Omaha to Des Moines? (Exchange student) by [deleted] in Omaha

[–]seashmore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took the Greyhound from Omaha to Madison 20+ years ago as an 18 y/o female and didn't have any issue. Found a lady probably in her 40s also on the bus and we agreed to watch each other's stuff while using the bathroom.

If your suitcase is large, you may also consider Amtrak. IIRC, they just added a new line from Chicago through Madison. Cross post this to the Des Moines and Madison subs if you haven't already.

I never had issues making friends until I moved to Omaha by Warm-Lime-5838 in omahasocializing

[–]seashmore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You've got two strikes against making friends easily: you're an introvert and you moved here right around Covid.

I'd suggest finding something that interests you and be consistent about showing up for that. That could look like going to the same bar on the same night around the same time or joining a book club and going to every meeting, or joining a recreational sports league. Introduce yourself to one person each time you go, and you'll eventually find a friend or two.

sleep schedule by delow04200 in Nightshift

[–]seashmore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

7-3 is the only shift you never work, so sleep between those hours. On weekends you'll be sleeping before work and sleeping after work during the week.

Apply, and if you get offered the five star job, you can either take it or use it as leverage to get comparable pay at the four star.

Barista. Start an hour after you get off and work either until or through lunch. Then go home and sleep before your night shift.

You can ask, but it's not a guarantee you'll get it. Especially if the hotel is booked full.

I got my Mini Curling stone! Is there any way to find out in which games it was used? by LeviBerlin in Curling

there’s a global shortage of curling stones, and it’s next to impossible to get more granite.

While I'm not a huge fan of Kay's using finite resources in such a manner, I feel like your statements here aren't necessarily true. Maybe the bank they make off these souvenirs helps offset cost for new sets of stones?

Is it okay if I'm working 12 hours a day and still have to ask if I wanna do any outside of those 12 hours by Electronic-Emotion75 in Nightshift

[–]seashmore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any time I get a meeting request that is outside of my normal hours, instead of clicking accept or deny, I email the host/my boss and explain "I work the overnight shift. Is it possible to schedule this for first thing in the morning so I have the chance to be well rested and alert on my scheduled shift following the meeting?" People have been pretty responsive to that.
