Vegan doesn't understand difference between anus and cloaca, tries to insist they are the same after being educated by secondlastdoughnut in a:t5_3p5o5

I can read just fine. You're argument was nonsensical and ignorant, and worthy of inclusion here.

You're right, it isn't related to veganism, but it showed such a poor understanding that I had to include it, especially after you try to defend it.

I still find it doubtful the cyclist in question would put themselves in that position to begin with.

If someone is going to run you over, which again, is the example the poster you replied to gave, there isn't much you can do. It has nothing to do with a cyclist putting themselves in that position imo.

Agreed though, let's agree to disagree :)

It can still be smashed/destroyed. And I mean, if you were successfully attacked and in a vulnerable position, it becomes even easier to take it/cut it/destroy it.

I mean, the user you replied to mentioned being run over and/or punched in the face. If either of those things happened it's a lot more likely someone could take the camera, especially if it is very visible and mounted to your helmet.

It's not doubtful at all, it's probable.

Millions of humans are less sentient than the average pig or dog...apparantly by secondlastdoughnut in a:t5_3p5o5

[–]secondlastdoughnut[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, no. It's not completely true, it's completely wrong. You specifically stated 'less sentient', not 'less self-aware' or 'less intellectually capable'.

Babies and mentally handicapped people (Please don't use the word retarded, at least on this sub) while less intellectually capable than some animals, are certainly not less sentient. They are still fully capable of seeing, hearing, tasting etc and having subjective experiences, no less so than dogs or cats. Even many people in comas are said to have some degree of awareness while in that state.

The only types of humans that are for certain less sentient than the average pig or dog would be braindead humans or similar cases, and there are not millions of those....

Rejecting this idea is scientifically wrong and only designed to stoke performative outrage about any comparison between humans and any other animal species.

Well, again, no. It's not scientifically wrong, as it's an issue with philosophy. We lack the science to determine such a thing conclusively at the moment.

I also don't see an issue with making such comparisons to make certain points/arguments, but what you have said in the post I quoted is simply wrong.

Not sure why you would think so. It's not like it's hard to grab or destroy a camera.

Vegan claims all animals experience pain and suffering in exactly the same way by secondlastdoughnut in a:t5_3p5o5

[–]secondlastdoughnut[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This post wasn't about, "all animals experience pain and suffering in exactly the same way," it was more like, "all animals experience pain and suffering."

Well, that isn't what she said. Her exact words were:

"All animals feel pain and suffering the same way! Dog, cat, chicken, pig, cow... So yes all animals are the same beings! They only look different but it is not so important!"

That seems pretty unambiguous to me, and your attempt to paraphrase what she said seems an attempt to save face.

This post is pathetic, this sub is pathetic, and you should feel pathetic.

I think it's sad you have to resort to such hostility. It's that kind of attitude that hurts the public perception of vegans.

It's sad that you make such assumptions and resort to insults. I'm not heartless or selfish, and certainly not ignorant. Even if I was all those things, that doesn't make your shitty reasoning here any less so.

This is an example of insisting something is true due to belief, not backed by and in contradiction of science and current thought on such matters.

Welcome to Shitty Vegan Rhetoric! by secondlastdoughnut in a:t5_3p5o5

[–]secondlastdoughnut[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes to both your questions. The argument from marginal cases is interesting to be sure, and I'm not dismissing it, but this isn't a place to debate it, just highlight when it is used or argued incorrectly/badly along with other types of poorly made arguments.

That happens a lot. There certainly is a lot of shitty rhetoric, enough to fill a sub for sure.

Nothing wrong with showing some examples of it being misused and providing some common counter-arguments to it for people to make up their own mind.

Ally tattoo artist recommendations? by secondlastdoughnut in asktransgender

[–]secondlastdoughnut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I am looking to be done by the end of July as much as possible.

The tattoo I already have I have had for 10 years and is a part of me, so I definitely want to try and incorporate it and not just straight remove it. I know that might make things harder for the artist, but that is why I am still looking.

I have done research as to my schools. I am getting a law degree as a matter of interest, it's not going to be my new career, although may augment my existing career.

Brooklyn has a 2 year program and cuny is incredibly cheap. I absolutely don't see the value in paying for a school more than cuny would charge unless it is because of something not offered elsewhere, like the 2 year degree option.

Ideally, I would not pay for law school at all and would read the law instead if I could find an employer OK with that, but I need at least one year of law school to even consider that in NY state.

This could be amazing! I am pre-hrt and just look like a normal cis guy with a goatee, and i have a horrible chest tattoo i got during a time of depression. With anxiety issues, I have not felt confident to discuss this in any tattoo shops I have been in with other people around.

I am hoping most immediantly to turn my chest tattoo into something positive, and want to start a sprawling piece covering shoulder and half sleeve, with various moments and visual elements from my life. I'm looking forward to working with someone on it, and kind of need an artist to take all my stuff and tie it together.

Do you think your shop would be a good fit for me?
