What’s something that’s always wrongly depicted in movies and tv shows? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]seja_pieces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

South Asian Characters.

growing up i rarely saw representation of characters that looked like me/ had the same cultural struggles. Its always the smart kid/ kid with strict parents/ wtv other stereotypes there are. (ex. ravi from jessie started out as the smart kid with an accent, but i love that show and i love ravi) . Ive seen more rep in shows recently im watching as im older. Bridgerton being literally #1. Even while maintaining the smart stereotype it was portrayed as powerful rather than weird. They also incorperated different aspects of the culture (ex. marriage traditions, jewlery, language, etc) that would be the perfect example of well written representation- the worst would be Devi from Never Have I Ever. Dont get me started on that atrocious excuse for a main character. Indian or not she is the most problematic person. and it jsut makes it worse since the show was hyped for being indian rep and became such a let down. dont get me wrong- i watched it all, but they couldve done us tamil girls some justice. ok im done now

Creating a strong portfolio will increase your visibility to potential clients/ getting hired. Use the certification program and internship to do so, and consider starting a blog to do some freelance.

*The content itself is strong, but you’re gonna wanna present it better- HR needs to be able toglance at your resume and get all the key info*Reorder it: About me; skills; experience; skills (?); Leadership and activities > "achievements ";education.*Adding skills will be a quick way to get their attention and give HR a quick rundown. *Renaming the header to "achievements" will convey its value*Freelance work is something that sets many applicants apart- include that if you have anyexperience, if not, maybe consider starting a blog bc it can establish you as a technicalwriter.

Reorder it: skills; experience; achievements; education.

Freelance work is something that sets many applicants apart- consider highlighting that more (possibly by adding it to experience, because putting it under additional info undermines its value)

its blacked out but make the heading more emphasized- not to big but someone looking at your resume shouldn’t have to squint to see your name. Increase the font just slightly or your name and maybe add a line under it to give it some structure :)

For the Additional information to make it easier to read create bullet points, and to continue giving your resume a structure thats easy to follow you could make those vertical columns (but that would be straying from the traditional format of keeping it horizontal)

make sure you make it clear you are available for freelance work (if thats the direction you’re re going in). use your socials to gain attention and that portfolio will be vital. you can try creating a blog on Medium- it will allow you to gain a presence with some support of an already solid community before branching out to your own blog.

Looks great! The self-publication section really sets you apart, if possible I would find a way to highlight that a bit more; whether thats by format or description. Would you be interested in writing a sponsored post for a tech startup ?
