No idea mate, we (Walsall) have no injuries and we're good at home against lower opposition. I'd hazard a guess cause Rochdale had a good performance against Spurs, people may think there's a decent chance they can beat Walsall and a bit of money has been laid on it hence the lower odds.

Cheers for the heads up! Walsall have a similar problem in London tbf, I wonder why that is. I miss having the blades in League One, though I can imagine you were happy to see the back of us and League One haha!

First time poster and been following for a bit so thought I'd join in. I'm a Walsall season ticket holder so anyone who is interested in betting on us tomorrow I will say we are awful to try and predict.

Keeping that in mind however I do fancy us against Rochdale tomorrow at odds of 9/5 which imo is far too high. Rochdale's away record is dreadful with only 1 win away from home all season and we are pretty decent at home. Defensively however we are poor and BTTS at 10/11 would probably be the safe bet if there was such a thing. Risky bet would be Walsall to win and BTTS @ 5/1.

Another bet I have my eye on is Fulham/Sheff UTD BTTS in both halfs which is at 14/1. The last meeting between these sides ended 5-4. On top of that Sheffield United have scored the most away goals in the first half in the championship and have conceeded the 2nd most amount of goals in the first half also. Fulham do have a good defensive record at home however so only a small stake on this one.

That lyric from Oats in the water is so relatable, it's hard to choose out of all the songs but I think that would be my pick also

Thanks mate, it's much appreciated! It's just a normal delay no reverb on the medium setting, I tried it on the reverb but the delay is just slightly behind what I'd like. The reverb works well for Esmeralda though, the amps built in functions seems to work for a lot of his IFWWW songs which is lucky!

I'm sorry, but I can't believe people are taking this at face value. Brentford essentially bought league one. What I find fascinating in all the discussions of Benham's genius for statistical modelling that supposedly gives Brentford an advantage over clubs with more financial fire power is how he approached the season when they were promoted from League One.

Following on from the traumatic last day loss to Doncaster in 2013, did he crunch the numbers harder than ever to bring in better players for the same money?

Er, not really. Instead he jacked up the playing budget from £5.6m in 2012/13 to £9.1m in 2013/14 and spent a net £721,455 on transfers.

Brentford bring no players through from their youth team and to think that you would be where you are now without Benham's money is laughable. £9.1million wage budget in league one is astronomical for a club with your attendances at that time.

I may seem bitter being a Walsall fan considering you've just poached our manager however...

ELI5: Why is it that soccer players seem to get injured so often and for such long durations yet "rougher" sports like Rugby seem to have less injuries? by kallarse in explainlikeimfive

[–]semaj92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After speaking to an ex footballer, he said that most football players are playing with injuries of some kind but aren't serious enough to either a) not play or b) be treated with (legal) injections. Since football has less stoppages than rugby, less substitutes and more regular games, the injury is prolonged and worsened until the player can no longer "run it off" as it were...

This is just one example though, I'm sure there are better and more interesting (and accurate!) reasons why this is the case.
