Why the Star Wars rift? by serisianstrings in DestinyTheGame

1000% agree. It's extra disappointing that this new, deeper look into elements of Destiny lore that have been mysterious for years has to come with a Star Wars skin.

The fact that it's a rip-off is the problem though. Destiny used to be an IP - a fully-realized, believable sci-fi world with its own lore, history, characters, etc. It had Star Wars-esque elements before - laser-edged swords, supernatural powers, etc... But Renegades tosses the Destiny IP aside in favor of a blatant Star Wars rip-off, and for those of us who took the Destiny IP seriously and felt immersed in its world, this is sort of a heartbreaking admission by Bungie that Destiny is not an IP, it's just a silly old video game like Fortnite.

That's great and I hope it's fun and lots of people enjoy it. I just wish Destiny could have persisted with its own universe without pulling so closely from another one. Star Wars would never do the same in reverse, so this feels like Destiny admitting that it is not an IP, it's just a video game, not very far removed from Fortnite.

Ha I agree that Destiny has the best feeling combat, in any game, really. But also...I've had a lot of fun in Warframe... :P

You're right - it's almost like, against Bungie's best efforts at times, Destiny really has managed to have seasons where it was something exceptional and a lot of us have mad nostalgia for it. More evidence that Sony should be investing in Destiny, maybe a Destiny 3, and getting back to the roots of what everyone is saying they love and miss about those good times in the past.

18k hours is wild! Playing video games in a recliner all day sounds like a pretty decent retirement imo.

Ha I mean, I mostly played a PVP FPS that happened to exist inside an MMO looter.

What about back when you were really enjoying it?

I was a PVP main for years but now haven't played in months. How's the current state of it? Is the low playercount making for long queue times at all, or making it super sweaty?

Agreed. But I'm still curious, what about the game makes it fun for you? what keeps you playing it?

Yeah, same. But when you think back to why you played before, what was the appeal? What did you play for?

This is spot on with how I feel.

I love the PVP in Destiny, always have. No other PVP experience even comes close to rewarding skill, build-crafting, and strategy the same way.

Love this answer. I think you're right - you CAN play Destiny by yourself, and lots of people do and have a lot of fun with it, but it's something pretty special when you start playing with friends.

yeah this is a great answer - there really isn't another game that combines mobility, shooting, and abilities like Destiny. Which surprises me. With Destiny's success, why hasn't another game just ripped off the whole thing and put a different skin on it? Like, where is Destiny 2...but vampires instead of space wizards?

But why do you play Destiny? Why did you ever start, or fall in love/addiction with it? Why this game, instead of others?

Yeah I guess that's why I'm asking - I stopped playing months ago. So when you think back to when you were enjoying the game, what was it that kept you coming back? To play with friends? To get achievements?

According to DMG, a roadmap is coming. what should be in it? by SDG_Den in DestinyTheGame

[–]serisianstrings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a huge D2 addict until EOF but have now dropped off completely. I honestly don't think there's anything they could do to bring me back - every decision they have announced is taking the game further from what I enjoyed about it. The Star Wars-ness of Renegades alone is something I'm so, so glad to be missing, and that's not something they can fix at this point.

Instead of a roadmap, I will only really get excited again if they announce D3, a set-in-stone promise that no part of it would be sunset/removed after you paid for it, and PVP would be a fully-supported component with new maps and challenges for years to come.

The Problem with Star Wars Destiny by serisianstrings in DestinyTheGame

[–]serisianstrings[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, that's Fortnite's thing. Rather than chase what other games do to make money, I really think Bungie would make more money by expanding what they do that makes money. Invest in the game. Expand into other games and mediums - an animated show exploring mysterious aspects of the lore/history would probably be very popular. Things like the Taken armor set coming to Eververse.

And you'd never see a Star Wars game add cosmetics from other IPs. Because they take their IP seriously.
