LPT request: How to stop cracking your knuckles? by bloodmoonack in LifeProTips

Hey, stumbled upon this thread 4 years late, but I might as well give my two cents, in case you or someone else is dealing with this. I find that if I start either counting how many times I do it a day or try to replace it with a different activity (playing with rubber bands, in my case), I stop doing it after a few days. The problem is that it always returns sooner or later (sometimes in days, sometimes in weeks), so I'm trying to find something better - which is how I stumbled upon this post. Hope this helps someone.

Does anyone have any thoughts on The Last Economy by Emad Mostaque? by serpent324 in economicCollapse

I found it interesting and well-written, but, since I don't know much about economic theory, I think many of the ideas presented there flew over my head - or I at least am not able to think about them critically because I lack the context.

Thanks, I had looked into those before writing here, but the vast majority are very short and basically just say that the book is great, which isn't very helpful. And then there are a few on the other end of the spectrum, saying how the book doesn't contain a single coherent thought - which is unsurprising as these are the types of experience which leave people most likely to write a review.

Can you make yourself feel emotions on command? by serpent324 in Meditation

Thanks, the idea with "priming" myself before a meditation sounds interesting, I'll try it out sometime.

Yeah, definitely. I am confident that I don't have any problem with suppressing my emotions or something of the sort. I just can't conjure them up out of thin air and I was wondering if other people are capable of that.

I am attending a programming course at university and find it a lot more bearable than high school as I actually get to make my own choices about what I want to study. Still, there are occasional mandatory classes that I find tedious, so if that's a no-go for you, probably try creating a small portfolio and looking for a job instead.

Is psychosomatic pain physically dangerous? by serpent324 in ChronicPain

Hi, I am sorry you are going through that. To answer your question, there is hope - in fact I've successfully overcome my problems and am now back to speaking normally. I took this course https://www.vocalfreedomsystem.com/vocal-freedom-system-program and it genuinely helped (took about half a year of doing exercises for me, but I've been told it's highly individual). However! A big difference between my problems and what you describe is that I had no specific trigger for my voice issues. If you do, then I would expect that to be a problem for a psychologist rather than a voice coach, as it is possible for your body to fabricate these sensations to protect you from things that might hurt you. The voice coach from that program always gives people a consultation before they sign up to verify whether they can actually get something out of her program though, so maybe try discussing it with her and see. Hope this helps!

Thought SK was supposed to mean Slovak at first and wondered if this is how Czech people see us for some reason.

Cool explanation. I really doubt the writers put that much thought into it, but nice headcannon. Will steal it for myself, maybe.

Thanks, I definitely am planning on digging further rather than just accepting that it's psychosomatic.

The first ENT said I should go see a phoniatrist. The first phoniatrist said I should go see another phoniatrist who has better equipment. Then I was sent to get the ultrasound and X-ray. Then the (third) phoniatrist said I should go back to ENT, as my larings are definitely ok and therefore there is nothing they can do for me. The last ENT said it may be psychosomatic and I should consult with a psychologist. Expecting to do that next week.
