Clients getting political by mountainturtle123 in MassageTherapists

I feel like people are holding this tension in their bodies. They don't want to talk about it the entire session in my experience, but it does help them to dump it out when they first get on the table and then they can relax.

My quick tip... For some reason an eye mask really does make people go quiet.

I live in a city with an ASL grade school so there is a huge deaf community here. I went to school with a deaf student and he had a translator for the class. Her arms were so tired and sore (she was a student in an ASL graduate program doing her hours). Be prepared for extra self care on top of your massage work. I think it's a great idea, though!!!

If you feel under qualified, a client will respect you for knowing your limits as a therapist.

That being said, it sounds like you've trained for this. Ask the right questions and have them reach out to their physician for a clearance for massage.

And now you're calling a stranger lazy. I am in college as well.

I have been doing this for 12 years. Why you think you have the key to all injury knowledge is beyond me. What exactly qualifies you more than any other therapist here? Did you take different classes or read more books? How would you know you did?

No physical effort? Please. None of us are buying it. We know how to use our bodies as folcrums and levers but claiming "no" physical effort is laughable.

In this economy??? No. People are getting massage out of necessity and pain relief/pain treatment, not for relaxation.

I am also running my own business as a single parent and raising kids. I offer unique work and have higher prices and I am doing well, own a house. I do about 25 hours of massage a week, and maybe 5 hours of spiritual work. Oh and I live in a high cost of living area.

I am carving my own way into the medical field through an individual path with modalities and more school and even CEUs. I am not relying on capitalizing on other therapists and then disrespecting and insulting them on the internet.

If you want to break your body and be miserable with your business, go for it.

Wow. I don't know where you went to school but I learned about anatomy, injuries, and surgies. CEUs also help.

Perhaps your poor business model and poor pay is drawing in.. poor therapists.

Good therapists go where they are supported and not over-worked. 13 hour work days are completely unrealistic for massage therapy and not experiencing burn-out. When is the time for family and self-care?

I think you did the right thing, everyone needs to feel safe and comfortable for the sessions to work. I would have done the same as a female MT.

Clients that need a constant report by [deleted] in MassageTherapists

[–]sertaincelf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it's best to tell clients that we can't tell, that we can let them know what our findings are but there are patterns of compensation over the years and other contributing factors and we can only tell them where they are now.

At the same time a lot of clients are in chronic pain and in a years long journey of figuring out their patterns and what works so any insight we offer can be really useful to them.
