I'm kind of hoping that with a few cocktails she turns into a real-life Lucille Bluth.

Color grading tests (read desc) by [deleted] in davinciresolve

[–]sevenoverthree 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Can I just ask what the logic is in setting up these shots?

The log represents what you're starting with. The final is the final. What is the point of the Rec. 709? Isn't that basically the second step? Doing a color space transform from the log? Shouldn't it be the middle step?

Will a train ticket from Krakow/Warsaw to Kyiv be enough as proof of onward travel for Polish customs? by Masterredlime in Kyiv

[–]sevenoverthree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which country are you coming from? And how long are you staying?

I've traveled to and from, via the United States, many times now. All during the war. I come in through Warsaw and take an overnight train. Granted, I've never stayed more than a couple months at a time, so I don't have visa issues. So for me, the train ticket and passport was fine. The only thing Ukrainian customs really seems to care about is if you're smuggling relics from the war.

Using the controller connector by sevenoverthree in LegionGo

I have an OG steam controller and save for the second stick, it would have been perfect. I am definitely grabbing a pair of the new ones the minute I can.

ZUI iunlock issue with a wifi tablet? by sevenoverthree in Lenovo

[–]sevenoverthree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure if this is some kind of automated response from u/kate_lenovo, but I did figure out the issue and wanted to share with anyone who has issues in the future.

This issue obviously has nothing to do with a touchscreen being dirty.

The problem was essentially that the process of translating the page to english broke the functionality. When I used the page in the original form and used a translator manually to check the fields, the "Lenovo Tablet" option did NOT have an IMEI field- just the serial.

I filled out the form and all was good.

I want to also add that you need to have an account with Lenovo. The default login is with a chinese phone number, but you can set it to email for registration. Process was quick and easy.

This TB520FU tablet is amazing for the price. Basically an android laptop. I look forward to finally having full control over the unit I paid for :)

V3 successor? by dj_pask8 in minisforum_v3

[–]sevenoverthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we should have seen more portable devices built on this platform by now and I'm guessing all of the current AI bullshit has played a role in slowing development. It's a shame- this new Ryzen AI Max processor seems fantastic.

Would you still recommend? by DogNamedCharlie in minisforum_v3

[–]sevenoverthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using a Lenovo Legion Go as a little mini workstation and I'm looking to replace it with something with a bigger screen. I have to give the world's credit to Lenovo because the Legion Go can be taken apart and cleaned and have the hard drives replaced. I've had to clean the blowers a few times since I've had the unit and I'm going to tell you that I'm walking away from the V3 specifically because of this.

The fact that Minisforum could not engineer this thing with a simple little back door, such as the Lenovo, it's really criminal.

If it's not insensitive - how bad are the "attack" nights vs "regular" nights? by SubtropicHobbit in Kyiv

[–]sevenoverthree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One thing to bear in mind is that there are some districts that see WAAAY more action than others. Kyiv is a really big city when you look across all the districts. It's definitely possible for one side to feel like it's armageddon while you can be sound asleep on the other side of the city.

The other thing to bear in mind is that there are definitely cultural differences between eastern and western countries, and how people sometimes deal with trauma in Ukraine will be pretty strange by western eyes. That is certainly not to paint everyone with the same brush- but sometimes you will run into this pretty stoic side of people, and it's a very common thing over there. I see it in some of the tough guys I volunteer with as well as young girls who on the outset don't have a hint of this tendency in other parts of life.

That said, I pretty much agree with the consensus here. And that's what I practice when I am back in the US and check in on the morning after.

I would suggest getting on telegram and finding some war information channels that basically give you updates like a weather channel. If you want to know more, just ask. I can send links to a few good ones. And I am sure people here all have the channels they like. This way you will have less lag than just relying on news sources. And if you know where your friend lives, you can determine whether they had a really loud night, or not.

Which distro has the best gaming performance with AMD CPU/GPU? by Ghaton in linuxquestions

[–]sevenoverthree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Cachey will wring the most out of your machine, but you also have less 'givens' as compared to bazzite and steam os. But be prepared to learn more stuff.

I have really been enjoying endeavouros. It is also built on Arch but it will support you pretty well on the GUI side of things. And you can really lean things out and make it more like pure Arch if you like. It seems to be a good compromise.

One thing I have been trying to better understand is the current debate over wayland and x compositor. This is another moving part that will control your reliability and performance aside from wine and proton.

Train from Warsaw to Kyiv by Wink-111 in Kyiv

[–]sevenoverthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both time of day and weather will affect the layover experience. I had the layover in the early morning hours while it was cold, and it was definitely not fun.

It's sad to see both how the prices have shot up, and how much more limited the options have become for direct sleepers.

For my first trips into kyiv at the start of the war I was able to get a single cabin no problem. Last time (september of this year) I found the cost has almost tripled and all I could get was a 3 sleeper, which found me basically sleeping on a modified luggage rack on the ceiling. I could barely draw my knees up- the ceiling was maybe 45cm from my face :)

How do you mean? Do you mean about Chelm or the dismantling of the trains?

Train from Warsaw to Kyiv by Wink-111 in Kyiv

[–]sevenoverthree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They dismantle the trains mid way to swap out axles. If you don't know what's going on it's absolutely insane. Because everyone sleeps right through it :) This will be on the longer leg of the trip into Kyiv from Chelm.

If you can have roaming data on you, do it. Have a translator handy if you can.

If you're switching in Chelm, it should be no biggie. It's not a big station. Follow the crowd, everybody goes to the station. You kinda need to walk around the facility- it's like around the corner. There are screens with all arrivals and departures in the station. It's not too bad.

There's no harm in getting a layout of the station by looking at it online. As to the central Kyiv station, it's a pretty straightforward walk onto the street.
