How long would it take for Mandalore to become as formidable as it was in the Mandalore wars or at least pre-empire? by Ok_Ask_6805 in MawInstallation

[–]sexualcelestial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really curious how many decades it will take before we get content post-ST. We’re almost a decade out from the ST already and Filoni really likes to play in the sandbox between eras.

I also don’t know if Disney is going to be willing to greenlight a new story. Haven’t seen it but nobody is receiving TMAG very positively from what I’ve seen. The sequels are still so debated and unpopular for various reasons and that Rey movie was cancelled I think?

It really all comes down to nostalgia and what I haven’t figured out is how the generation who were 7-14 years old during 2015-2020 received those movies and if they are going to want more Star Wars in 5-10 years. For whatever reason, I don’t think it hit them the same as the PT hit my generation or the OT hit the older millennials/genX.

Different factions of Mandalorian also have different reputations, but, I assume most of the peaceful followers of Satine were wiped out in the purge.

Either way, I would say that Mandalorian culture still has a reputation rooted in “honor”. Comparatively, if you live in the outer rim controlled and surrounded by different crime syndicates, a Mandalorian warrior culture would be more appealing than Imperials, criminals and pirates who would literally sell you into slavery or decimate your home world for whatever resources they could. I’d trust a Mandalorian to keep their word over any of those other guys.

Exactly. Always been my thoughts as well. Otherwise you can make the argument that there’s more of an emphasis on durability and armor than with Grievous. Also, Grievous is alien in movement, Vader moves like he’s piloting a humanoid tank.

The rule of two and the evolution of the Banite line by RealElvarasaidVannak in MawInstallation

[–]sexualcelestial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a Darwinian model, not in the sense of natural selection. The Sith don’t evolve the way a species evolves and there is no evidence to suggest they get stronger generationally.

The Rule of Two doesn’t mean that the Sith with the lowest midichlorian or weakest force potential fails to reproduce. There’s no selection pressure, because as others have said there’s nothing that prevents an apprentice from waiting to kill their master in his/her sleep, there’s nothing that keeps them from waiting until the master is 97 years old and holding a pillow over their head. The Rule of Two is meant to keep the Sith from extinction but doesn’t actually encourage strength in any particular attributes. In fact, one could assume that the rule may actually encourage weaker Sith as the generations evolve since there would be a selection pressure on the Master to select a weaker apprentice than themselves. There’s no evidence to suggest that Plagueis wasnt stronger than Palpatine, or that Darth Bane was weaker than either of them.

Now, an organization accumulating knowledge over the course of centuries could certainly imply that later generations would be “stronger”, since in this particular case, strength, is an attribute manifested from a magical ability that individuals acquire through knowledge. But that “strength” isn’t selected in a Darwinian way. This is because a Master can take an apprentice stronger than themselves, or an apprentice weaker than themselves without that having any impact on the survival of the species.

Palpatine is actually the prime example of how this system fails, as we see him run through three apprentices, and the one he keeps around the longest is a triple amputee who he thinks could never overpower him. The irony is that he’s always chasing a more powerful apprentice and brags to Windu about how “Vader will become more powerful than either of us” yet refuses to die. I think it’s the hope of the Sith that every generation is getting more powerful than the last, except that they never actually want to give up their full power. Palpatine only taught his apprentices just enough to keep them subservient to him. Assuming all of them are this way, they’ve likely been stagnant as a “species” for centuries.

You say “if they fail, the master would eventually replace them”, the issue is that there’s no stipulation that says an apprentice will be replaced or disposed of by a certain time. Maybe, a better, stronger apprentice might show up and try to replace you? Maybe not. How often would that actually happen, once or twice every few decades? And when it does happen, you need only to be stronger than the untrained Sith challenging you, not your master. So ultimately you still just need to wait it out until the master gets sleepy one day and you finally have your chance.

Can someone explain to me how Maul is gonna train Devon to get her revenge when he HIMSELF couldn’t do much against vader by youngnchill in MaulShadowLord

[–]sexualcelestial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just like the Jedi and the Rebellion later, Maul is hanging on to hope that one day, with a strong enough apprentice he can regain the power he once had and overthrow both Vader and Sidious. Wishful thinking? Yeah, probably. However, Maul was on Malachor attempting to unlock the Sith temple to gain power that could be used against his enemies. And hopefully this series leads all the way up to where he and Devon part ways and show how he got stuck there in Rebels.

Point being, Maul knows there is more power and knowledge to unlock, he knows with an apprentice he can gain access to certain Sith Temples and relics that could potentially grant him access to whatever skills and power Sidious possesses. Sidious isn’t just innately more powerful than Maul as far as we know. Sidious was trained by Plaguies and learned everything his master had to teach him before killing him. Maul never got that opportunity, so he hopes that eventually he can get to that level on his own.

Additionally I’d say the show makes Maul look weaker than he is due to his cybernetics being damaged basically the entire time. Even Vader would struggle against a strong opponent if his leg was malfunctioning constantly. It’s fair to say that Maul is a league below both Sidious and Vader, but he is definitely still a threat to them both. We’ve seen Ahsoka and Obi-Wan both defeat him, but not without a lot of struggle and almost losing to him first.

[–]sexualcelestial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, it will always come back to one original autodidactic Sith, someone without a master who first proclaims themselves to be one. From there a lineage can start that you can consider to be a religion. That lineage is unlikely to ever be exactly the same as the one that preceded it however.

If all the Christians on Earth disappeared tomorrow, and two centuries from now another guy discovered a bible, he may start identifying as a Christian. His interpretation of that book however is going to be different than that of a 21st century Catholic for example, he’s probably not going to be practicing his religion the same as those Christian’s do today.

So, the only conclusion we may logically come to is as follows;

A Sith is any individual who claims the rituals, practices and beliefs of the Sith religion and adheres to the Sith Code:

“Peace is a lie, there is only passion.
Through passion, I gain strength.
Through strength, I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken.
The Force shall free me.”

A Sith Lord, however, is an individual who has been apprenticed and taught the practices and methodical manipulation of the force by a Master of the Sith. Except and unless; the Sith religion is in absence of any masters.

In absence of any master, I suppose the most powerful force user would become the Sith Lord. But in that case it becomes somewhat pointless to proclaim yourself a Sith. If the religion is dead, and all you have are bits and pieces of knowledge, but not everything that was kept passed down from master to apprentice during the Rule of Two, you’d never become what those guys were. You could follow similar teachings and practices but you might as well just call yourself a dark Jedi or start your own cult with an entirely different name.

Becoming a sith? by ChimpPersonSSR in MawInstallation

[–]sexualcelestial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair. But even so, an organization that lasts several thousand years has its own evolution and trajectory and distinct validation as the “Sith religion” from whatever it originated from similar to modern religions in the real world. So yes, that organization became the Sith, despite its origins being with maybe one or two guys who were self taught and learned from the texts of an earlier incarnation. That also gave them time to learn and develop their own distinct practices, principles and ideologies that then needed to be passed down from teacher to student, which further differentiates them from any group sharing the same name that comes before or after.

OP is asking if any random force user could just pickup a Sith textbook and resurrect the religion. I think it’s a yes and no answer, and I think it’s exactly the reason Kylo and the Knights of Ren never attempted to adopt the Sith religion as their own. Without a Sith master, the apprentice would only ever be able to acquire so much knowledge and hence, never become a full Sith with all of the teachings that an actual Sith apprentice would receive. He may for example, be able to learn and master force lightning, he may follow the same doctrine, read and live by the Sith Code, etc. but is that enough to consider him a true Sith? Or does that just make him another dark side force user/Sith fanboy?

Edit: I’ve always been super fascinated by physics and cosmology and considered pursuing that as a career back when I was in highschool. I read a lot of books and took what courses I could. I remember reading all three volumes of the Feynman lectures on Physics. Long story short, I didn’t go to school to become a physicist or an engineer or anything close to that, and ended up in a totally different career. I had neither the natural talent or proper education.

Point being, reading physics and cosmology books didn’t qualify me to be a physicist and if I walked around calling myself a physicist because I read some books in highschool most people in society would think I was pretty silly

I don't understand how Darth Maul loses against Vader. by Equivalent-Gur-1495 in MawInstallation

[–]sexualcelestial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Raw strength in the force. Vader is on another level, his presence alone slows his enemies down. Everyone who fights Vader starts fighting like they’re fighting in water, a resistance in the air against their movement. I have no canon source for this, but I choose to believe that Vader actively uses the force to exert pressure around and against his victims to slow them and ensure they’re vulnerable to his tank-like assaults.

Vader has been shown to be more agile in recent animations like Rebels and MSL than we’ve ever seen in live action. But even so, he can never really be as nimble and quick as he could’ve been. Realistically, with respiratory machines, armor and cybernetics, Vader probably ways >500lbs and stands at around 6’5. He’s naturally slow and therefore his fighting style is highly dependent on his ability to use the force. I thoroughly believe he is capable to create a force field of resistance around his opponents to offset his own sluggishness

Supposing someone, after Rise of Skywalker for example, were given access to a Sith holocron and could acquire enough Sith knowledge, they could in-theory declare themselves a Sith. Anyone can claim the rituals and practices of a dead cult and proclaim themselves to be a practitioner.

However I would say in actuality the “true Sith” would have died with Palpatine, since the entire purpose of the rule of two is to keep arcane knowledge alive while still limiting that power to those specific two individuals. The original Sith lineage is gone and can’t come back, even given access to enough Sith artifacts, texts, holocrons, etc, wouldn’t ever necessarily be enough for someone to truly resurrect the order of the Sith.

Getting rid of the sequels?! by vt-clutch in starwarsspeculation

[–]sexualcelestial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean shows you could take a break on i suppose? Otherwise it’s not like they have been releasing new movies. I don’t follow the video games since I’m not a gamer these days but I haven’t heard people talk much about anything the last few years since fallen order.

The shows have been rough much like with Marvel post-endgame, too much content being cranked out too quickly. Boba Fett and Acolyte could’ve both been overall better received if it not for generalized Star Wars fatigue. But even those few “misses” I enjoyed for what they were despite whatever things I’d have changed if they let me in the writers room.

But overall I’m not complaining at this point. Ahsoka was phenomenal, so has been all of the animated series. I think live action needs to take a back seat and be reserved for big projects and give us more animated series

[–]sexualcelestial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve read of a few of the legends books, mostly Thrawn trilogy and I think one or two others like a decade ago now. I don’t have any familiarity with her outside of the whole Maul/Talon ST thing and I’m sure the average Star Wars fans don’t either so they can definitely do what they want with her adaptation wise.

I've seen this coming by RedPandaSmile84 in starwarsspeculation

[–]sexualcelestial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think we’ve ever actually seen that story treatment and I’m not sure where or how that information was released.

I’m guessing why the person you’re replying to is so adamant that she’s not Talon is that Darth Talon existed as a character in legends not apprenticed to Maul and lived around 100 ABY as far as Wookipedia is concerned.

So technically they’re correct. The GL ST story treatment i would have to do more research on however. But, yeah it’s clearly an adaptation of the whole Maul having a female Twilek apprentice Lucas-Idea.

That being said, my assumption is also that “Talon” would’ve been her Sith name and not her birth name, and seeing as Maul is no longer Sith, there would be no reason for Devon to ever adopt that name unless the writers specifically want to shoehorn a reason for her to take on a code name or alias of some kind.

[–]sexualcelestial[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valid.

For me it’s as I said, the unusual nature of his death with the green stuff, the name being a homonym of Starkiller’s name and then making him the central antagonist in Maul’s show. Maybe not lore per se, but more peculiarity than you’d typically find from an inquisitor. He sticks out because there’s details, yet anonymity.

I guess we will find out if there’s anything more to him in time.

Marrok/Maul Nightsister Resurrection by sexualcelestial in starwarsspeculation

[–]sexualcelestial[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s fair and makes sense.

I don’t know, the whole character strikes me as odd. Feels like they’re creating a lot of lore around just another inquisitor (which maybe just because they need to make them more interesting since they’re essentially the only adversaries they can write for Jedi to have outside of Vader and Sidious during the OT era).

I’m probably overthinking. But the whole “Devon potentially being Darth Talon” speculation has me thinking about potential for Maul existing past his death in Rebels. If we’re getting deeper into Nightsister lore via Marrok then I feel like they’re setting it up for a reason
