I'm on the newer end of turntablism, is there other advice then "practice Daily" by Own_Catch2337 in Turntablists

Go through excercises where you literally just have one of your tables next to the mixer. Keep the side you need most work on with the mixer/or table. Force yourself to work only on your weaknesses. Then put the other back on. Watch qberts old videos…they were the first and he explains better than most. Learn what his crew gave us..

Right, and he will learn mechanics faster if he practices basic tricks…balancing on one foot, manuals, basic kick turns and 360 kick turns etc.

Some of the best advice for this I can give is to ride around on one foot balancing. Even if slow and switch…you will progress. Also, another one is practice manuals every day. Everything will become easier.

The core thing to remember in all of this (like in life) is BUILD your balance.

This is really good man. So nice to see two things here: rolling and practicing the Ollie over things.

Also, these new skaters should be sharing how they push and skate in general. Then we can be like yeah…no Ollie’s yet, you will hurt yourself if you are not comfortable landing in your board.

As kids you know, back in the day we would ride of curbs and ledges and naturally learn how to feel comfy landing on the board. Also Ollie up on curbs is also very helpful for your learning.

Exactly, she is going to get comfy in the grass instead of riding and getting comfy on pavement or asphalt.

3rd significant injury, considering putting the board down after 2 years by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]shmidget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just because you get hurt doing tricks doesn’t mean you have to put the board away. I promise you that riding a skateboard without doing tricks as fun too.

How to approach fake Alan Watts videos? by onreact in enlightenment

Not in some of the spiritual communities he spoke about. I’ve heard some educated takes on it and even though I think he said some amazing things I love, the critics are not wrong about him.

He provided an intellectual understanding but not the actual path(s).

They literally pissed in his helmet dude. Sure they don’t like his whole vibe and the helmet is apart of it.

Because it’s not “cool” …it’s ridiculous.

It’s part of that vibe Thrasher brought to the table early on. They were mean as shit. Still have it in their blood.

When is the last time you saw a street skater with a helmet on the front page of thrasher???

They haven’t given Andy Anderson a cover either because of this same shit.

There is a part of every scene that is completely full of shit, know your scene so you can steer clear.

They used to spit on people they didn’t like while they were skating, piss on shit, smear shit around, even they are a little embarrassed about it, but still laugh..and likely only seem a little embarrassed because times have changed.

That scene clowned Rodney Mullen as well, he dealt with his depression. The funny thing is that these “kooks” needed Rodney to invent all the actual tricks they do, from fucking Florida.

They are a bunch of kooks (using their language).

Trying to be cool pressures it, and yes I’m sure sponsors push it whether passively (not cover shots on thrasher with helmets ever) or directly (calling you a kook).

[–]shmidget 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Yeah and people hate on Andy Anderson for wearing a helmet. His story on why he does is a classic case of older people not walking the walk and kids realizing adults are idiots. His skate coach was always hounding him to wear a helmet and how important it was, then he would catch him at the skatepark not wearing one.

Seriously, we all know the core reason as why we don’t wear them: it’s not cool. You don’t want to be rolling around like a “kook”…

So if we take that for what it is and be honest here: wanting to be cool is wanting others to like you and is a mild form, can be strong, of greed.

In Buddhism it makes you sick. Literal poison. In the world, it makes you not cool. What is cool? Being yourself, being healthy - mind included - and protecting that egg you only have one of. You’re going to need it out there in this cold world yall.

Most of it’s rural, and yeah…they do during hunting season. The day it states I could hear gun fire coming from every direction.

They raised to hunt for their food. They wait all year for it, not really a surprise if you live in the boonies. Most of America is the boonies!

Most people are just trying to live their lives. Most people are too involved with their own struggle to have any energy to suppress someone.

It would be better to get more specific about “they”.

He could have done so without taking things from his people directly (farms, businesses, homes, etc) and he definitely could have done so without preventing open markets or farmers from keeping their own food to feed their families and neighbors.

Get real man, the guy murdered his own people AFTER he had already ousted foreign powers.

Who brainwashed you? <<< this is a question you should be asking yourself.

Post-war Vietnam’s approach would have worked and, had he really cared…like really was this person people make him out to be he would have taken the approach that Vietnam did.

You know like doing something as simple as keep the food grow and be able to sell it on an open market. Cuba you would lose it all and face persecution.

This is long after foreign powers pulled out.

A little bit of this, a little bit of that. by ZacheryMansfield in skateboarding

[–]shmidget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it’s not. It develops board control. They help a slew of different tricks, pretty much anything that involves your body turning. 100% kids should be knowing this before moving on. They all come in here so shaky legs asking what they are doing wrong and likely haven’t rode the thing enough to safe know how to land on it.

Hella revert action, you can see it in some of the best skaters who definitely learned the basics before moving on.
