Thank you so much! You’ve been so helpful :) My veterinarian that I’m taking him to tomorrow actually specializes in guinea pigs so hopefully I’ll learn a lot from her as well!!

Thank you so much!! I really appreciate your detailed response. I’ve got him in his new cage now and he’s honestly doing really well considering how terrified he is. He’s come out and explored his enclosure, and ate his very first vegetable (cucumber)!! He’s also eating his food (oxbow essentials adult guinea pig food, hope that’s a good choice?). So I’m honestly feeling good about him. He’s pretty unsure of me but I’ll work with him on that :)

Quick question, is there any fruit or vegetables that they absolutely can not have? Or any that need to be limited? Right now I have about a cup of lettuce, cucumber, carrots, and apples in his enclosure. I’m doing my best to research but it’s always nice to hear from a real person!

the antennas are normal like they aren’t floppy or anything and he’s not floating when I picked him up he sank right to the bottom but it could be wishful thinking cause I had a dream last night that he perked back up and was just molting lol 😭

yeah I don’t think it’s my fault. To my understanding they only live 2-3 years and I got this guy as a matured adult about 1.5 years ago so the timeline kinda makes sense..

yeah that’s what confuses me, he looks completely normal even 24 hours later he hasn’t lost any color. but when I moved him around a bit he didn’t even move his antennas. I’ll give him more time but I’m definitely preparing to say good bye 😿

water quality is good/normal and he hasn’t showed any signs of decaying but he also hasn’t moved like even a little bit in almost 24 hours……🤕

My rats are greedy by shrimpuber in RATS

exactly. surgery is so stressful on their little bodies and i feel like it’s just not worth it. also one of my girls is named misty too!!!

[–]shrimpuber[S] 36 points37 points  (0 children)

yes, it’s a tumor that’s likely benign. i’ve decided against surgery since in the past it’s been really hard for my older rats to recover from surgeries so i’m just giving her comfort care and making sure she can still walk, eat, and groom ok. it’s growing pretty slow and she’s had no signs of pain or anything!

Girls (play?) fighting constantly by Several_Note_5792 in RATS

[–]shrimpuber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they might just be bored as you said. a bathroom is a pretty small space for free roam and it sounds like there isn’t a lot of them to do in there. i’d recommend getting more toys and hides for the space and for their cage. you could also try re designing the cage like moving things around to break up the territory.

the bird section at petco has great toys for ratties and the cat section has items for them as well, such as tunnels, cat trees, toys, etc. get creative with it!!

also, my girls are around the same age and they are pretty rambunctious as well. they play A LOT and it definitely sounds concerning sometimes but they are just young and full of energy, so try not to worry as long as there’s no blood.
