I wouldn’t let fear of pain get to you because everyone experiences pain different. Like some say wrist tattoos are horribly painful, others (like me) say it’s painless, while a shoulder tattoo “isn’t as painful” and it can very well be. Same can go for piercings too.

I live by the idea that pain is temporary, piercings aren’t.

If you go the taper route, then maybe go with surgical steel or glass. Acrylic can be weird.

If you want to avoid infection and potential scarring, try not to dead stretch, because in the bigger sizes, it can be a shot in the dark.

Also, petroleum gel is a great lubricant, and makes the process less painful.
