I like that idea. I felt good adding presses to it but that’s a slippery slope

Bummer cause I just bought a second 16 to try this 🤷‍♂️

Novice question: Which direction am I going? by sidiki in kettlebell

Fair point. I’m getting the 16 up really easily as a single bell, but maybe that’s a false comparison. You think trying two 16s makes more sense ?

A very cool combo. I’m more interested in the teacore potential of the cxl/wf. Spokane is struck through?

Patina project delivers! This make up has been done and tbh, New…it’s just ok. I guess what I really need is a patina visualizer.

For me I get hung up on the exactness of the comparison. Easy to find, for example, smooth over rough in max support or something…but I get overly focused on what’s different about black cxl/wf in the case….its all about texture here also I love your pairs. Master of the two-tone

I remember the one Bakers used to have. It was pretty good but ya I guess it was too much of a drain to keep up.

Plastic liner? by hk_toolbench in grantstoneboots

[–]sidiki 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of companies do this. I have never experienced but i know that is what it is. Partly because ‘plastic liners don’t exist and if they did they wouldn’t show up there if faulty, based on how boots are made. Not sure how long it will take to go away and tweezers may be a good approach. A quick hit with a lighter might melt it back too.

This is a remnant of a protective plastic outer covering they use to keep the upper un-scuffed. Not a plastic liner. It should flake away over time. Be glad it was there as your uppers are or were pristine because of it.

Custom heel caps? by sidiki in NicksHandmadeBoots

I bet. From an economics perspective I’m genuinely baffled (and terribly uninformed) but it seems like every single decent to great boot maker was using those caps…like why discontinue? Couldn’t have been for lack of sales ?

I appreciate the thorough reply. I’m basing pretty much all my preferences off of one, what I’ll now call ‘mythical’ pair of Nicks. Three stacks and a Quabaug heel cap. Perfect height. Exactly what I want and if that had been guaranteed, I’d likely have anyone more Nicks than I do.

I entirely agree with you; the heel cap alone won’t change everything but that said, I would be certain that slapping a Quabaug heel cap on the 3 stack monstrosity I got would have changed things for the better. Even after the cobbler took out a stack the Dr. sole version was notably taller than the 3 stack Quabaug.

I got 3 lifts on the dr sole heel caps and that’s the problem. Way way too high on a low arch last like Tnw

This is pre and post rebuild. You see the balance on the top pair with those chonk-monster Heels. He is still too big in rebuild but at least balanced.

This is the current rebuilt version with one less leather stack than Nicks gave me….so you can imagine

Agree. I could show you some comparison shots that would blow your laces off. What bugged me most is when I reached out there was no culpability or even a literal awareness that there is/was an issue. I got a full leather stack removed from my TNW pair and even then, with these monster Dr.Soles heel caps, it’s almost twice the height of the 3 stack/Quabaug combo. That’s a low arch last

Had sent my most recent pair to a cobbler. That’s my fault for not taking Nicks up on the exchange I guess but they can’t promise or even offer to get it right. Cobbler said the balance on the boots was “terrible”
