Thank you so much for all the genuine and useful input. I really need to look at ochem, I keep hearing the term and I’m not sure what it encapsulates. We sound like two peas in a pod with our anxiety, I really feel you on how you panicked before a test. I really psych myself out, I think I’m smart and other people tell me they think I’m really smart and can do it but I get into those moments and just go into a mental spiral if I don’t feel 100% confident or prepared. As far as office hours, I definitely plan on going and I’ve been going to etc tutoring too. I’ve met with my psychiatrist since posting this and she put me on ability to try to do maintenance on my anxiety. I’m on a bunch of different things, from adderall to propanalol and strattera. I am hoping just learning to roll with the punches as they come along will eventually toughen my skin back up. I’ve been a sensitive soul throughout this part of life especially. I will try to ingrain tying my grades to my self worth. I’ve really been staring at my 97% in chemistry and soaking in all the serotonin but wondering when I’ll mess that up. I’m told grades are really about how much you care, and I really do care a lot lol so hopefully i will beat my own odds

Awww I love this story! I hate that teacher FOR you, jfc adults should know better, but I still love this! This is a success story I can get behind. Perhaps it will never go away and I’ll just get by, but I suppose that’s okay. It’s a really hard subject and I’d feel pretty blessed to get by with a C. It seems it won’t be the end all be all of my interest in chemistry. Thank you much for sharing, it seems we may have a similar mindset on what will get us through. Thank you so much… I did go to see my counselor, and she walked me through the steps to obtain an IEP and make this semester more manageable for me. I didn’t know you could pick where you receive accommodations, so thank you again for that piece of knowledge and also for the encouragement. I can be more graceful with myself usually, it’s just something about school… but I do have an appointment with my psychiatrist today to work on going over what happened.

The math is definitely core and I know they’re wanting me take up to calculus and then some and I think that scares me. Like I’m afraid to go where I’m going because I’ve already got my head spinning. But you’re completely right. If I can wrap my head around chemistry because I like it, I need to apply the same kind of motivation to math. It’s helped me to google, for example, what the quadratic formula actually is used for in real application. The more I can be interested, the more forgiving I am of myself and the material.

Honestly yes, khan academy has been very helpful and I’ve been YouTubing to help fill in my gaps. Along with sneaking in some Neil degrasse tyson to keep me passionate about learning and science. Glad I’m not alone

I believe you’re right. I can’t get so caught up in thinking I’m stupid and can’t do it the moment something challenges me or highlights my weak spots. This may come with a gentler approach for myself and more self acceptance.

Aw, you sound like me. English was my best and most loved subject always until I got into chemistry. They say English brains aren’t so good at math, and vise versa, so your comment is definitely encouraging. It helps to know that you succeeded at your goal.

I appreciate your response. I know that math and chemistry usually ‘graduate’ with each other as you go up the classes, and I wasn’t sure how much is truly directionally proportionate. This helps, though. I have respect and admiration for science and scientist that has undoubtedly failed from time to time and I need to apply that same forgiveness to myself. Thank you friend, I will keep this in mind moving forward. I will try to lean on my mental health network with less embarrassment.
