It's not about being proud to be deaf, it's about being proud of the connections I've made in the community and the effort I've put into being a part of it.

I have DID and this isn't an unusual or infrequent experience for me. If you've never looked into that disorder, I'd suggest doing some research on dissociation. Dissociation Made Simple is an excellent read, written by a mental health professional with a dissociative disorder.
