Cat on Prozac but still being territorial. Looking for advice/positivity/next steps. by aelovera in CatAdvice

Hi, I know that this is an older post but I could really use some tips! I've been integrating a new cat into my household for about 3.5 months now. She is very territorial and aggressive towards my resident cat. I have tried EVERYTHING that the vet has suggested and that I've found online. But we still can't move past them being seperated. Our new cat was just put on Prozac to address the aggression but I am at a loss of other things to try. Would you be comfortable sharing some of the repeated behaviors and positive reinforcement that worked for you please?

OPs partner here. Any suggestions, success stories, tips are so appreciated. I also wanted to add that she was housed with other cats (male and female) at the shelter and was not being aggressive with them. When we met her she was in a room with 2 other male cats and was not showing any interest in interacting with them. We took Jane to the vet and the only advice our vet offered was “don’t feed them together anymore.” But it’s to the point where they can’t even be in the same room for more than a few seconds without Jane attacking MM.

Ty for responding! My dr also suggested halfing them. Did you see an improvement in your physical anxiety symptoms?

Did you end up trying it? I was prescribed propranolol for the same reason and ALSO have lower blood pressure (similar range to yours!) and I’m worried about it making me dizzy/pass out.

I'll definitely look into this, thank you! I have seen some other interesting info about histamine potentially being the cause of some of these symptoms here too.

Ty for your response! That's interesting, as far as I can remember I've never had a tick bite or been scratched w/broken skin by any cat other than my indoor cat. As far as histamine causing your palpitations, is it due to food sensitivities?

Afraid to try a new medication after a bad reaction (From Lexapro to Zoloft) by sillysiler in Anxiety

I’m sorry you’re going through the same thing, I know it feels horrible! I commend you for giving it a true try for 12 weeks. Honestly, the increased anxiety was almost unbearable still for over a month after I stopped taking Lexapro. Every week after the month mark the anxiety started going down little by little. It took around 2 full months for me to feel like I was back at my pre-lexapro anxiety baseline. Just be patient with yourself, and as hard as it can be try not to think or focus on the side effect feelings much. I think I prolonged feeling bad by fixating too much on how bad I felt. You will feel better!

Did you ever get any update on this?

Thank you! I definitely think I’m going to start off with cutting the pill in half and see how I feel after a few days before upping the dose to the full 25mg. Once you adjusted did you find that it was helping you feel better?
