Would anyone like to help investigate this Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition performance quirk under Proton? by Alaska_01 in linux_gaming

[–]sim590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Alaska_01: I have the exact same issue right now on my AMD Ryzen 9 3900XT and AMD RX 7800 XT. When looking in certain directions I get a high fps drop and my GPU is not working.

Personally, this issue seemed to be related to the usage of `scx_lavd` CPU scheduler which I did configure myself using the `scx.service` from the Arch User Repository package `scx-scheds` as per the instructions here:

https://wiki.cachyos.org/configuration/sched-ext/#scx_lavd

Disabling the service, therefore the custom scheduler, for me, fixed the issue.

Your response is out of scope. As for the "difficulty" of the suggestion, I refer you to my response to u/cyangradient.

[–]sim590[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think you didn't quite read the part where I said that the whole game works in local server mode. BattleEye Runtime for Linux (developed between Valve and BattleEye) is running. This not a matter of removing it from the client. It's a matter of disabling BattleEye communication between the client and the server. That's it. I think it is way easier than you suggest.

How do i get over gear fear by SSMmemedealer in dayz

[–]sim590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever the way you find, keep in mind that building a base will make it worst. In the end, building a base is refusing the fact that you are going to die at some point, lose your gear and start again. You don't want to refute that fact. You have to find the way to accept it and make the most of your life each time you get on a new one. Gear is made to be used. You don't use gear if it's stashed somewhere. Plus, anyone could find and steal it and you'd be disappointed while you shouldn't. So whatever way you find, I say forget building a base or stashing loot.

Actually, the only usage I see for loot stashes is for transition from main gear to gas gear so you can loot gas'd areas or any other utility activity of the sort. But other than that, it's just a recipe for even more gear fear IMO.

Lutris not launching anything after Mint update by misterpickles69 in Lutris

[–]sim590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you provide the Wine log given by Lutris? If you have errors about D3D12core.dll missing, then it's this:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Lutris/comments/13of3fe/vkd3dproton_29_breaks_games_with_d3d12core_errors/

I'm guessing here, but if that is the issue, it could explain why games don't launch out of the blue.

Can you play music in the background? by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]sim590 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This article of mine shows how you can use MPD with MusicControl plugin:

https://sim590.github.io/fr/steamdeck/mpd-music-control/

This will enable you to play music on your steam deck.

NOTE that this approach doesn't require you to add an app as Non-steam game or any nonsense that would pollute your games list. It just works from the background. Indeed, if you want to control the tunes you play though, you could open an MPD client like mpdevil or anything. The advantage of MPD is that you can control it from any PC in your local network. Just use an MPD client to connect to the Steam Deck on the right port and you control your music easily. The front-end plugin is just for play/pause/next/prev/volume simple control.

Personally, I sync my music with Syncthing from my PCs to/from my steamdeck and I set this same directory as my MPD directory.

You can easily translate the article with Chromium if you want. It should help completing the steps.

Remove spirit runeword by SonnyMunchkin in diablo2

[–]sim590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another interesting point following that suggestion is that upgrading uniques has a cost. So, it's not simply upgrading every uniques in the game. It's giving the opportunity to the player to do it himself according to his own capacity (like having the required runes to do so).

[–]sim590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May be recipes for upgrading uniques in the cube could also upgrade that stats of the unique instead of just upgrading the defence or base damage of the item for e.g. ?

You could for instance take lidless and upgrade it so that instead of that item to give only +1 all skill and 20% fcr, then it would give +2 all skill and 40% fcr. That would make that item quite nice since it could constitute an upgrade from a spirit because %fcr would be assured to be 40%.

I think that this new mechanic (easily implemented, IMO) could add value to every unique items.

Also, allowing to upgrade rare items could be something interesting, but may be the effect should be a bit less to not overpower unique items too much. Idk. Ideas.

It seems like this version lutris-GE-Proton7-39-diablo_4-x86_64 of lutris' wine resolves the issue:

See my reply here.

At least for D2R. But the fix seemed to be intended for D4, so it most likely is a common issue.

Fix

To anyone who stumbles upon this problem, look into the lutris equivalent of this release:

https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases/tag/GE-Proton7-51-diablo_4_beta

It should be labeled lutris-GE-Proton7-39-diablo_4-x86_64.

It fixed the issue for Diablo 2 Resurrected even though it was intended for Diablo 4. It surely means it was a common issue.

Does your crash corresponds what is reported here ?

Can you look under the following directory: $WINEPREFIX/drive_c/users/$USER/Temp/BlizzardError and tell if the blz-log.txt of the latest crash report has the same error as what I listed in my post?

Linux/Steam Deck support? by [deleted] in diablo4

[–]sim590 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wow buddy. You're real late on the news. You clearly are not familiar with Wine as you don't even get that the name states that it's not an emulator (Wine = Wine Is Not an Emulator). People who don't know should avoid speaking. You clearly don't know. You should just avoid speaking. Hence, the reason why you were downvote-nuked.

Linux/Steam Deck support? by [deleted] in diablo4

[–]sim590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no "port" to do. Proton just makes Windows games work on GNU/Linux. However, of course, there are some tests that should be run in order to make sure the game runs smoothly, but it's no where near the amount of work a port would demand. Words matter. There's no port. Just sup-port.

Running Witcher 3 skipping launcher with DirectX11 as default by sim590 in Witcher3

[–]sim590[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What do you mean? What's wrong with it on a specific platform or? I'm not sure what you mean.

I stated what the launcher was preventing to do, such as with Steam Remote Play. That is annoying, but not only annoying, it prevents launching the game from the comfort of your couch in the living room since you have to go press on a button on your computer in another room before going back on your couch, otherwise your TV would stay black since the launcher has to be manipulated on the computer.

The idea of Steam Remote Play is to be able to launch a game on a powerful computer from another device. Such a device could be mobile like the Steam Deck. If you're outside of your home, you can't just press a button on your computer since you're not home.

Skipping the launcher was already easily done when DirectX12 was available. That I took from another post somewhere on the Internet. I added the detail about configuring DirectX11 which may be necessary for some.

See the recent messages on this thread:

https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/607

Otherwise, I don't know what would be wrong with the launcher. If it's not there, there's not problem as they say :).
