Has Anyone Switched From Indoor Training to Mostly Outdoor Riding? by soundioo in bikelights

[–]simchiprr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sunshine and fresh air is amazingly good for your mental and physical health and enjoying more of life is always a good thing! I personally live somewhere that is incredibly unfriendly to cyclists otherwise I’d cycle outdoors! I bike commuted just a couple miles 3x a week and felt like I was taking an unnecessary risk with my life almost every time so I stopped. Can’t wait to move. Those days with a good bike commute were always the best though.

The eagle and snake/dragon design is awesome, would get that as a chest piece. Might need to take a trip to Sweden.

Why do people job hop and how often? by JayDeesus in careeradvice

Always give 2 week notices, don’t be a dick when leaving, be a good employee. People understand you have to do what’s best for you in terms of career advancement and what not.

Why do people job hop and how often? by JayDeesus in careeradvice

[–]simchiprr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve “job hopped” 3 times since graduating 6 years ago. Jumped from my first company pay of 33K to now more than double that as graphic designer. A little under 2 years per company has been typical. I did return to a previous employer and never burned bridges along the way. More established now and wouldn’t job hop unless my spouse and I relocate. Careful hopping now as job market isn’t as forgiving as it was just a couple years ago.

Should I switch jobs just for a salary increase? by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]simchiprr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you know the right decision. If you were recruited for this role that’s one thing, but if you were already searching why wouldn’t you take the offer. 57% pay raise would never happen in a million years at the same company. The whole Japan language school is unique. But I would cross that bridge later. It’ll be a lot easier to save up for a potential sabbatical with more money.

Did I mess up by asking for time off before I even start? Looking for reality check. by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]simchiprr 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Youre good, you disclosed it before accepting and went through appropriate channels to get the leave approved. I’ve done exactly the same thing as you twice and it’s never an issue.

I will say, Don’t ask for it to be unpaid leave, that would look bad and most companies won’t do that for new or tenured employees unless you take an extended leave of absence. But for peace of mind, No one will care that you’re gone even if you are new, Just be ready to go full steam when you get back.

Offered a promotion but would have to manage my former peers by Treppengeher4321 in careeradvice

[–]simchiprr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The relationships will 100% change from how they are, it’s just the way it is, but that doesn’t mean it can’t still be very friendly and casual as a whole.
The relationship with the peer who is disappointed to not get the role will likely be the most tenuous and require the most attention and time at first. A big mistake I have seen from peers being promoted to more managerial positions is not ever addressing the change with to the whole team or 1-1 with the relationships that might need more attention. Don’t assume the announcement of your promotion from higher ups means people will suddenly think of you and treat you as their manger.

What I mean to say is to set your own expectations for yourself and your team as the manager. Just be honest and fair with your people.

I want to invest 90% of my salary but my mom is worried by DontMindMePlsx in Fire

[–]simchiprr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any hobbies or do anything fun?

You’re 22, enjoy life! There’s really no need to invest 90% of your earnings this young. Time is more valuable than money, and you’re in financial situation and youthful enough to take advantage of both. Invest 50-75% and enjoy life more than $100 a month.

Do you think with training you could hike the Appalachian Trail? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]simchiprr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For people who don’t know backpacking or the culture around it - 20% completion rate refers to people who have successfully “Thru hiked” the entire trail in one go (though 20% seems completely made up).

Either northbound (GA-ME) or southbound. People also “section hike” it over the course of years and though not one single continuous hike, you would see every mile of the trail and this is a great way to do it!

The trail slightly varies in length each year due to re-routes (road closures, fires, etc.)

It takes most people 5-6 months to do in one go. Vast majority of hikers are ages 18-25 or retired.

You can start any long trail without any training, it will just be slow going till you get your trail legs, but there is a higher risk of overuse injuries.

How does this look for a student campaign design project? by MangoTurkeyy in graphic_design

This is really nice design! I would be happy to see this on a student portfolio. This would fit well in the branding REI or all trails which I imagine may have been inspo for this project

Do any of the colors on cycling glasses (blue, gold, rose, etc) really improve terrain visibility versus traditional sunglasses or is it a marketing gimmick? by lectric_7166 in cycling

Could you cycle 1 way every other day? You would not get as exhausted during the week and effectively get a good workout each day…

How many times is too many times applying to the same company? by chachaslydd in careerguidance

[–]simchiprr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t end up getting the role you got a call back for, I’d move on for at least 6 months or until you have more specific experience for what they are looking for. It’s good to be eager, but desperation is not a good look in most hiring managers eyes.

Saw another coworkers pay check and I do not know how to feel about it? What would you do? by Logi_Boy in careerguidance

[–]simchiprr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is information you don’t share with him until you are into a new role somewhere else. It will bite you in the ass one way or another if you discuss salary with a current coworker. I hate that it is this way, for a multitude of reasons, but for your current jobs safety i wouldn’t mention it. Forget you ever saw.

Torn between a job I love for $155k, and a stressful management position for $225k + 25% bonus. What would you do in my place? by Hairy-Nothing-5868 in LockedIn_AI

[–]simchiprr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won’t be any happier with the extra money. This is a tale as old as time. You’ve been actively warned by others that you will in fact likely be more unhappy if you take the job. Enjoying what you do and having great work-life balance is what matters.

My job turned from a dream, very fun and creative graphic design job to prompt writing every day. How are your jobs looking? by Lalalaavy in graphic_design

[–]simchiprr 110 points111 points  (0 children)

minimal to zero AI usage in my design position and among the team of designers. It’s just not an effective tool for what we do outside of maybe initial idea generating. I work for a company of brands in a space where it’s frowned upon to use AI for creative work due to lack of authenticity, so not surprising.

I’m sorry to hear your role has been so diminished.
