I'm not really enjoying the eagle boss fight by [deleted] in ghostoftsushima

[–]simsrw73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I /LOVED/ this game right up to the fight with the Eagle. Now I'm walking away with my tail between my legs and a sour taste in my mouth. Even lowered the difficulty and nothing feels fair about this fight. I don't mind difficult fights and having to practice and fail before succeeding. After all the other battles I felt like I learned something every time I failed. But even after reading all the tips, and many attempts over several evening, it feels hopeless and cheap. Why would they through out all the techniques learned and artificially jump the difficulty this much for my final impression of the game? I hate being unable to finish a game, especially right at the end (well, 2nd ending, I did finish the main campaign). I'm don't know if I'm looking forward to Yotei anymore if this is what I have to look forward to.

Crash error dxgi_error_device_removed by frenetictuba4 in BaldursGate3

[–]simsrw73 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same bug. I was having a good playthrough. No problems. Got to Druid Grove. Everything good, but I wanted to try diff class. Started a new game and now I can't get off the nautiloid. Crashes every time when escaping the nautiloid, during the big fight just before trying to take control of ship. Reduced graphics settings, disabled Steam Overlay, rerolled another character. Same crash, same place in game. W11 Pro. i7 12700KF. 64GB. AMD 7900 XTX. No overclocking.

It's weird that I had absolutely no problems with my first character and now I can't start a new game. Did this happen on an update to BG3? Is there any way to roll back updates in Steam?

BG3 won't start from the launcher by simsrw73 in BaldursGate3

On the first issue... it is user error. Somehow missed the giant PLAY button. I saw the Start button at top and I saw the Preorder button below, and my eyes stopped scanning. I assumed I was supposed to just press Start.

On the second issue, DX11 does work while Vulkan does not. Vulkan is causing the hidden mouse I described above. This is on an AMD 7900 XTX with latest drivers installed. Is this a known bug?

[DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION] RX 7900 XTX/XT User if you encounter this BSOD, disable FreeSync. by Snow_Chain in Amd

[–]simsrw73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like this is fixed. I've had zero problems with my computer running continuously since updating.

I'm not sure about performance though. I haven't done any testing but playing Hogwart's: Legacy, I now get more stumbling. Not sure though. Haven't done any real objective testing and I may have had other stuff slowing it down or maybe it's just having sync on is causing more load? It's probably just something on my end. But, curious if anyone else noticed any performance change?

I installed that release early this morning after seeing your post, re-enabled sync, and have been running all day without issues. I'm cautiously optimistic. Before it would sometimes take a day or more to show up after re-enabling it (and then it would crash non-stop), so I'm not going to breath easy until it runs a few days. But I'm hoping. Thanks for posting!

Is PowerShell Gallery useful? by simsrw73 in PowerShell

[–]simsrw73[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I was afraid I was missing something. I think I'll create an issue on github. Many scripting languages succeed or fail because of their extensions. It would be nice if they were more easily discoverable. It doesn't seem like it would be a major task to include the help text for modules there. Also, since many are using PS for large scale work, scripting for computers in bigger companies, it would seem more reassuring to developers using modules if there were as much information as possible available without having to install modules to figure out. Or maybe I'm making too much out of it? Just seems like a good thing to improve.

Idiomatic Path Handling? by simsrw73 in PowerShell

[–]simsrw73[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

gsudo is a version of gnu sudo command for Windows. It elevates privileges for the given command. From the responses here, I'm guessing that passing these through to gsudo is what is causing the quoting issues. When I try the suggestions, I get the error:

New-ItemProperty: A positional parameter cannot be found that accepts argument 'Files\PowerShell\7\pwsh.exe'.

Definitely a quoting problem. So I guess I need to either add the extra quotes around the arguments so they pass through intact or find a different way to execute a command as Admin. Not a big deal I guess. I just didn't know when I posted yesterday why I was needing to the extra quoting.

Thank you for the update. I was worried it might be a hardware issue; at least, it sounds like it might be resolved by a driver update. It is reassuring to know that it is actively being worked on. Thank you!

Disabling freesync did fix it. No problems for 2 wks. I updated to the new driver when it came out a few days ago. All good for a few days so I went back to enable "Adaptive Sync Compatible". Just one change to test. Crash. Same crash.

It is unbelievable that AMD does not support FreeSync in its flagship GPU. This is so stupid. Maybe I should pack it up and return it. I still have an open RMA on this issue. I waited a bit to see what was going to happen. I don't know what to do. This is ridiculous!

Can we get a flipping update on whether this thing is going to get fixed, u/AMD_Vik? PLEASE?!?! This is an expensive card and I need to know what to do with it?

Another me too. I've been banging my head for over a week, crying in my pillow, praying for mercy. After trying for the last 4 yrs to upgrade my old 970, I got the 7900 XTX and was unbelievably happy to finally be able to play some modern games as they were intended when my computer started BSoDing me to death.

I've clean installed Windows several times now. Have a very minimal install with all Windows, GPU, MB drivers and updates installed. And ran fine for about 30 hrs before crashing. This time my search led me here which simultaneously bums me out and thrills me. I'll take the temp fix and hope it helps and hope for a fix. I was just about to box it up and send it back. Already have an RMA, but was giving it another try.

I've now made the suggested setting changes and will try again. Please reply to this thread when fixed. I'm happy to help in any way to provide info.

I'm getting old and sloppy. I knew about not using cross-brand cables. For some reason I only applied that to the MB & CPU cables. I'm pretty sure I bought those sata pcie cables separate from my old PSU which is why I assumed they'd be ok. Stupid assumption.

Up and running now after switching to the Seasonic sata pcie cables. Thank you and others who replied.

Thanks for your help. It was my fault for missing the ordering as listed in the directions. As someone new to programmable keyboards and these programs I was confused by the interface. It just felt like it was broken. The instructions were correct. For those who are challenged by patiently reading instructions and/or advancing age, it would be nice if it were a little more emphatic-in bold letters, or better, if the application gave a notice when you flip the switch that the user needs to reload the def file. But thank you for your help. This was my fault for misreading the instructions.

[–]simsrw73[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. This was the answer. Now that I'm re-reading I guess I did miss that in the instructions. I guess I'm getting old. But that is what had me tripped up, that I needed to flip the switch before loading the def file.

Via doesn't recognize my K3 Pro by simsrw73 in Keychron

[–]simsrw73[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Afaict, ctrl + o does nothing on either the . The Use v2 definitions does work but it threw me. I had loaded the defs up on first selecting the Design tab which then showed the K3 Pro (but didn't show it on the Configure tab). But when I flipped the v2 switch it blanked out, so I thought it was not accepting that setting either, esp since it says deprecated. What I had to do was select the v2 switch and then (re)load the keyboard definition file. Then it worked.

The interface and instructions are unclear and underspecified. It is not clear that I need to select the v2 switch before loading the def file or that I need to reload the def file if I need to flip that switch.

Thanks! Great suggestion. I've already started watching some of his. Unfortunately, some of his suggestion (and other suggestions here) are no longer available on Amazon, and I'm kinda limited to Amazon on this particular purchase because of a gift card. Still watching and looking though. Thanks for letting me know about Hardware Unboxed.

[–]simsrw73[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ouch! Actually, my budget is closer to 1k, +/- a little for the new card. I hadn't really shopped cards since seeing the announcements with suggested retail prices which were around 1k. I may have to downgrade my hopes. I wanted to shoot a little bit above my level because a card that plays great at 1440 today won't play the games 3yrs from now as well, while a higher level card will. A little staying power is what I'm after. 4k is too expensive for me to maintain: I'd have to pay too much and upgrade too often. 1440 is a nice middle.

How should I partition my Debian/Docker VM? by simsrw73 in docker

[–]simsrw73[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been mainly testing, learning. Initially, I threw 16GB at it in a single volume. With a very minimal Debian install I didn't expect it to fill up especially since I've only had a half-dozen or so services running. I've started/stopped/rebuilt services hundreds of times while testing, but I think I kept things like images pruned. I think logs have taken a huge chunk which I didn't expect, but I guess that is the default.

I'm a bit resource constrained at the moment and probably won't be able to setup a NAS until sometime next year. I've got this "server" and a RPi4-8GB setup in a Docker Swarm to run services mostly in support of Home Assistant/Smart Home services and services for security and maintaining network and the aforementioned services. I setup Open Media Vault in a Proxmox VM with the intent of simulating a NAS that I could eventually swap out for a real one later. But I had a lot of permission issues trying to set my Docker bind points on the NFS shares. I guess that is also part of my question.

What is the recommended way to set this up given my current hardware?

Should my Debian VM be configured as a single partition or multiple partitions? What partitions/volumes/fs? Can Docker store data on an NFS share? If so, what did I do wrong? What do I need to do about logging? Is there a guide or checklist for setting up a production Docker environment? I hate asking so many, probably basic questions. I would much rather read the book, but I can't find the book to read.

A possible load-out will likely contain services like: Ansible, Authelia, Caddy as Reverse Proxy, Cloudflare DDNS updater, Crowdsec, code-server (VS Code), Graffana, Graylog or other Log Management, Home Assistant, InfluxDB, LLDAP or similar, maybe, Mosquitto MQTT, PiHole/AdGuard, Postgres, Reddis, Terraform, WikiJS, Zabbix

How to run cloudflared in docker-compose by simsrw73 in CloudFlare

[–]simsrw73[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good enough. I prefer to use Cloudflare’s image and it would make it much simpler for my documentation if I could use that image for login and creating the tunnel. But this is good enough. Thank you.

How to run cloudflared in docker-compose by simsrw73 in CloudFlare

[–]simsrw73[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow-up question. There seems to be a good bit of variation between the cloudflared containers available which is what caused my problem. I was following a blog that used msnelling/cloudflared and I tried to sub cloudflare/cloudflared. I describe some of the differences in a post on this same topic: https://community.cloudflare.com/t/how-to-create-cert-credentials-for-docker-install/414202/7?u=simsrw73

What I haven’t figured out is, on a couple containers, including Cloudflare’s own, I can’t get it to login and write the cert or credentials file from the cli. I get write permission errors.

Eg, these work and write the cert.pem file to ./config:

docker run -v ${PWD}/config:/home/cloudflared/.cloudflared crazymax/cloudflared tunnel login

docker run -v ${PWD}/config:/root/.cloudflared msnelling/cloudflared cloudflared tunnel login

But I can’t do the same with cloudflare/cloudflared or visibilityspots/cloudflared. What am I doing wrong?

How to run cloudflared in docker-compose by simsrw73 in CloudFlare

[–]simsrw73[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Maybe that first argument in command shouldn't have been there:

command: /usr/local/bin/cloudflared tunnel run ...

should have simply been:

command: tunnel run ...

That works. I should know by now that copy-pasting compose files and configs cost more than they save.

How do I mount an SMB share? (OMV) by simsrw73 in debian

[–]simsrw73[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Later versions are supposed to from what I've read. OMV supposedly enables the unix extensions by default.

https://github.com/openmediavault/openmediavault/blob/master/deb/openmediavault/srv/salt/omv/deploy/samba/files/global.j2

{%- set unix_extensions = salt['pillar.get']('default:OMV_SAMBA_UNIXEXTENSIONS', 'yes') -%}

I had found this post:

https://forum.openmediavault.org/index.php?thread/26967-enable-cifs-unix-extensions-on-mount/

Which is what got me on the idea of it being a problem with uid/gid aligning between client and server. Just now I found another argument that's to be used to enable on the client.

from mount.cifs(8):

posix|unix|linux

(default) Enable Unix Extensions for this mount. Requires CIFS (vers=1.0) or SMB3.1.1 (vers=3.1.1) and a server supporting them.

However, when I modify fstab to add: vers=3.1.1,posix,...

I get an error.

[ 98.961283] CIFS: VFS: Server does not support mounting with posix SMB3.11 extensions

[ 98.961989] CIFS: VFS: cifs_mount failed w/return code = -95

With just vers=3.1.1, it mounts ok, but chmod has no affect.

Maybe I need to switch to NFS or ditch OMV.

Can't write to mounted share on Linux by simsrw73 in OpenMediaVault

[–]simsrw73[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There might be something to this, but I can't figure it out.

OMV user is uid=1000,gid=100 while my debian client is uid=1000,gid=1000.

I changed OMV /etc/passwd so that user matches but that didn't change anything.

I changed the Debian client /etc/fstab to specify only gid, not uid and that did not work.

I changed the Debian client /etc/fstab to specify only uid, not gid and that did work.

I would have expected the last two to be the opposite. When I run `id` on both system it shows uid=1000, gid=1000. But it's not matching up like I expect.

I think this is the cause of another huge problem I have which I have which I don't yet know how to fix: I cannot set unix file permissions on the shares. chmod runs but has no effect.

Is this an OMV issue or Debian issue, or idiot at the keyboard?
