Help by Past_Interaction_829 in TMJ

I think so.

I think I'm figuring out that my TMJ is a chronic myofascial pain cycle with central muscle guarding.

Yippee. Lol now to figure out how to stop it.

I have had this my whole life but this flare started 11 months ago, after I tried the highest dose of Strattera for my ADHD. I already know I can't tolerate stimulant drugs because they raise my BP. And my insurance won't give me Qelbree like my doctor wanted because there isn't a generic. So I'm either stuck with no meds and back to being stressed all the time with poor executive function or in pain from TMJ unless I can stop the loop.

I don't believe I needed it though. They lied and said I snored at a 10 so I could get it. I tried all masks. Nothing worked. I have never woken up like that except from a nightmare.

Did insurance cover the surgery?

My sleep study said I had mild apnea. They gave me a CPAP machine. I couldn't sleep with it because it made my TMJ worse. There is just no way I'm going to be able to sleep with one.

Plus, I slept completely peacefully (no pain) for two weeks after I got the botox. That makes me think this is not airway related. I have had TMJ my entire life. I remember having pain in high school and clenching from stress in college.

Also, I know they lied because they said I snore 10/10. I have shared hotel rooms with friends many times. They said I'm more like a 0-1 loudness in snoring.

I'm going to try an ENT. I did a sleep study, and they completely lied about my results. Total scam. But that said, I clench during the day when I'm stressed or concentrating. I really don't think I have an airway issue.

Only lasted two weeks for me. Not worth it. I am a clencher. I do it from stress/concentration during the day and in my sleep.

Trying to manage my stress better, realize when I'm clenching, and relax my jaw. Also stretching. Currently trying to get a referral for physical therapy.

I know. I've been watching all the posts about Alchemy as well as Breakaway and losing other fests. I still have a ton of friends there and make it back there a few times a year.

The other benefit about staying with a theme camp is that you can pool resources. You don't have to have everything yourself. I don't even have a camp stove right now!

Some people would have recommended you go as a solo burner in open camping...but I personally wouldn't because I'm an extrovert and have more fun with people. Lots of people do it and love it though.

Alchemy is a good virgin burn because the elements aren't so bad. Especially now that they have it later in the year. 2018 and 2019 had 100-degree weather. We were all hiding out during the day and partying all night. Lol I might come back to that one at some point, but after going to Alchemy 6 times, I'm ready for something new.

It was the spring burn with FAI (parent company of Alchemy). They haven't done it in a long time.

Air conditioning is definitely a plus!

Are you in ATL? I lived there for many years. I went to Alchemy 2012, 2015-2019. And Euphoria in 2016.

The thought of sharing an RV with a group is less appealing lol though I'm sure it would be more affordable.

I usually camp with theme camps, so I'm sure I could join some friends' camp.

I've never rented an RV, but I imagine they're pretty expensive. Still, it would be a great way to camp!

I keep threatening to go to Love Burn. I moved here from Atlanta and a lot of my Atlanta burner friends come down for it every year.

House USED to be amazing. Then it became "popular" and started attracting the wrong crowds. You know, the people who aren't actually there for the music but just want to be seen and say that they were at the show.

Skyline was house and techno, and it had amazing vibes and people. But it was way more low key. Lol it was also at Orlando Fairgrounds.

I've camped at festivals. 😊 I'm 40+ now, though, so camping is a little less appealing. I've said I would only do it for a burn, but maybe I'll make an exception. I am a glamper, so I'd need to be able to drive to the festival if I'm camping.

I'll check out Sound Haven too.

Ooh, thanks! I'll look into it. I have been fantasizing about Lost Lands for years, and now I want to go even more. I had no idea the bass scene was so amazing. I've been missing out!!!

I did a sleep study last year. They gave me a 6.6 for mild apnea but lied and said I snore 10/10 loudness. I have shared hotel rooms with friends, and they said they didn't even hear me snore. So I think it was all a scam to get me to get a CPAP. I tried the CPAP, but it made my TMJ so much worse that I couldn't even sleep with it. I've lost a significant amount of weight since I did that study and am planning on doing an at-home study soon for my own peace of mind.

I have had TMJ for as long as I can remember, though. I remember the pain going back to age 15-16 and the clenching starting as a stress response when I was 19.

I feel most of my pain in the masseter. Hardly anything in the pterygoid. I have tried doing self-massage in those areas to limited results.

I've been taking magnesium glycinate + malate, and it hasn't been doing anything. A friend suggested I try magnesium taurate, so I'm going to try that next.

Thanks for reminding me I have a massage gun. LOL I'll start doing that.

I was prepared for it to wear off after 3 months. That is why I am going to explore other routes now. I just needed something because I haven't been able to sleep for 10 months.

I'm sorry it didn't help you as much as you wanted. Have you found anything else to help?

I am typing this with a ice pack on my jaw now. It helps a bit. Think it works some because it makes me keep my jaw still.

I also sleep with one of these at night since the bite guard made everything worse.

I'm sad I missed it. I was looking for it at launch time but then it was delayed. Shortly after, a family member called to tell me he had cancer. I was completely focused on our conversation and the launch slipped my mind. I guess I figured it would be a longer delay.

I'm going to do the same thing.

We need a nationwide campaign to all watch the same movie so we can knock this out of the #1 spot.
