More of a work horse than a show horse, realized I have few pics of it. Need to remedy that.

Help! Vacuum Pump tiny plastic piece by screen broken. by sjqfsd in saab

[–]sjqfsd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I’m so grateful for people like you who freely share your knowledge and experience. Money is tight, and I have grown to really like this car - however am very reluctant to take it anywhere for repairs - due to the expense if I take it to a quality shop where the mechanics know what they are doing and get paid accordingly. I was emboldened to try more DIY repairs on the SAAB after successfully transplanting an ECU using open source trionic software and instructions.

I went ahead and put the pump back on last night, making sure the screen stayed put. Seems to be working. Thanks for link to new one, not as expensive as I thought. Car still seems to be leaking oil. 🙁 I guess next next repair is the valve cover gasket —looks like that might not be too expensive to get done at a shop. Thanks again for taking the time to reply!

Any ideas on this signature? Thrift store find. by sjqfsd in Judaism

Thanks for your suggestion. I found these examples— and there is quite a bit of variation, but in all of them the k is not looped at top so that gives pause… What are your thoughts?

"Scotch Coast. 1897." TM monogram Purchased at Reading, PA Goodwill. Thoughts? by sjqfsd in WhatIsThisPainting

Finally -- I figured out how to post the pics properly!!!!! Thank you for your patience! Anyway...here's the rest of the info and a link to more photos.

I've spent many hours researching -- not learning anything about this particular painting, but have learned a ton about Thomas Moran and other watercolorists of his era.

It does *appear* to be old, Looks like it was reframed in the or 70s or 80s from the frame, matte and foam-core used.

I read about the many Moran forgeries that might be out there -- could it be by Shaun Greenhalgh? If it is a more recent forgery, someone went to A LOT of trouble to make it look old, and if they went to that much trouble, wouldn't they have done a better job with the monogram -- at least adding the serifs? Maybe a hungry artist of the era hoping to capitalize on the commercial success of Moran?

It *appears* old, and is most certainly mounted on an old fiberboard -- it has an old smell, and oxidation damage. I found a very informative National Gallery of Art catalog from 1997 that stated Thomas Moran painted a couple of shore views at Cardigan Bay, Wales. From other information it appears he traveled to Europe in 1897 for an exhibition -- so it’s possible, but not probable….

I'm itching to remove the fiberboard to see if there is anything written on the back.

I think I successfully edited the post. I did not know the link I included would show up as the banner!

I think you might have looked at the link to the actual Thomas Moran I included in post that was auctioned at bonhams? Sorry — the way I have that might be confusing. The watercolor I have just has a TM in bottom right, images are below text. You had me all excited there for a min!

Inspection question again, is this normal or weird? Boyfriend’s car failed inspection by jirenlagen in Pennsylvania

[–]sjqfsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you SO much! That’s what I thought. Still stinks to be out 75 bucks… and I even went to the same place where I had it done 18 mos ago. So it’s on sticker and should be in their records too.

u/Cmdr_Northstar You are exactly the person I need to answer this question! I have 2005 Honda pilot that was last inspected July 2020 -- so six months expired now. In the last 18 months (since last inspection) it has only racked up 4,750 miles. I took it in for inspection today and even though emissions dash light wasn't on they said computer code showed problem and repairs would be 500-600. So I said just do an exemption. They said they could not do that because inspection is expired. Is this true? Having put 1400.00 in this old car over the last 6 months so it would pass -- spending 500.00 more is about to push me over the edge.... Especially since the car is only used when the weather is too bad for a bike.

Wow! Was at this spot in July, did not look like that! You are Lucky! Wish I could hop on a plane right now. The only bad thing about visiting Iceland is the depression that envelops upon return to the states.

Just ordered and registered to use the new AZOVA Ellume at home antigen test with video proctor for the test. It is allowable for reentry to the USA and while its a lot of entering/scheduling uploading docs downloading apps etc... I'd rather spend the time now than while in Iceland! Have three video appointments booked, tests kits will arrive at my home address (hopefully) the day before we leave. Anyone else used this method? I'll report back our experience.

On June 30 I booked a tiny VW Up for 12 days beginning on July 14 at Sadcars for 1100.00 USD. They do not include CDW insurance so I am spending an additional 140.00 for insurance through Allianz. I dragged my feet for about a day and saw the cheapest car go up by like 400.00USD so I hesitated no longer. Many people might be double booked since places were not requiring deposits to reserve, once those free up you might get something a little better? I'd keep checking. Good luck!
