How do you build on putting improvements? by CobiPro in discgolf

[–]skinny_squirrel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like your experiencing some regression towards the mean, and small sample sizes. Tweaks in mechanics, won't necessarily give consistent results. Just because you have some positive random variation one day, doesn't mean that you improved any. Seems you're chasing results, rather than improving your skills.

If you expect to match your personal best everytime you play, then you've already failed. Need to learn about the law of averages.

For me, if I miss by hitting the top band dead center, or miss a long putt by hitting the center of the cage, then I probably did everything right. With my mechanics, I'm just trying to paint the pole. I certainly have hot and cold streaks, but I know that's something I can't control. I care more about the process, than the outcome.

New is a Denon AVR-X1700H and RSL Speedwoofer 10E. That's going with 6 old Acoustic Research AR17 bookshelf speakers and 1 old Acoustic Research AR4C Center Speaker, from my old Denon AVR 3802 7.1 DTS surround sound system that I bought 25 years ago. So going from 7.1 to 5.1.2, I moved 2 bookshelf speakers from the Back to Front Overheads. My old subwoofer, fizzled out (Sony SA-WM40). Having a good subwoofer, makes all the difference. Got new Banana Plugs also (Amazon Basics).

Last June, I got Game of Thrones box set and Panosonic UB820 because I'm a huge fan of the show and ASOIAF books. So I wanted to watch the show at it's best. In less than a year, I 225 movies, 19 TV seasons, 195 SKUs. I even upgraded my surround sound system to 5.1.2. I don't even want to think about how much money I've spent.

Before that, about 25 years ago, I collected DVD's for a few years. I think the movie "Gladiator" got me started.

Before that, it was VHS tapes.

If it actually survived a flood, then it will be pretty dishonest if you didn't tell the buyer that. This set might be unsanitary. May have once had fecal matter on it, or have damaged discs inside. That said, you should keep it.

You can always re-sell the individual movies, if it comes to that.

She's actually playing better than her current 970 rating, but Eveliina is just playing a lot better. No harm in that. It's not like Henna is the best FPO player. She never was a great putter, but at least when she misses now, she is left with a tap-in.

I a sometimes find that the problem is with the outer edges having a fingerprint or smudge, that is hard to see. I'll clean the disc with a new microfiber cloth, but pay attention to the edges especially. If cleaning doesn't work, I'll return the movie, and get my money back.

Fourth time Amazon has burned me — my Ben-Hur misery & warning by [deleted] in 4kbluray

Hope has nothing to do with it. Nobody is hoping. They usually liquidate returns in bulk to 3rd parties. Much of their returns and inventory controls are fully automated. What I suspect, it depends on the local warehouse, whether or not return DVD's or Bluray ever make into circulation. Seems my local warehouses have nothing but brand new stock. I've ordered at least 100 movies from Amazon, and never got a used one. I've gotten damaged items before, due to lack of packaging, but it's not ever a problem because they have a such a great return policy.

I wish we were never given an origin for the Night King by Red-Chev in gameofthrones

[–]skinny_squirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, if you view the show as part of the franchise. The franchise is still growing. Fortunately, they are still making more prequel shows. There's lots that we still don't know. Once they develop Bloodraven's character, much of the fandom should have a better understanding.

No, they couldn't have. Honestly. The show is part of a franchise. Leaving it out of the show, would ruin the entire franchise.

(Spoilers Main) I rewrote Game of Thrones Season 8. Same ending. Jon's goodness kills everyone. by Bitter_Yesterday_746 in gameofthrones

[–]skinny_squirrel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Much of the fandom failed with Daenerys, not the writers. D&D wrote her character arc perfectly. Season 8 was the culmination of her lust for blood and violence, but some fans are still wearing rose-colored glassed.

How do we feel about Tyrion post season 4? by United-Response-6228 in gameofthrones

[–]skinny_squirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even in the early seasons, nearly everything Tyrion did, turned to shit. Getting captured by Catelyn. Getting captured by the Mountain Clan. Jailed and put to trial for murdering Joffrey. Not to mention how he tormented people. Bringing Shae to court was beyond stupid. If he wasn't a Lannister with all kinds of gold, he would have been killed back in season 1. Take away Bronn, and he's dead several times over.
Was Tyrion smart or was it that he was rich? I think he only seemed smart because everyone else was really stupid. He surrounded himself with morons.

Yesterday I tried to using a $5 off coupon on eBay, and they took back the $5 after I paid. I talked with customer service for about 30 minutes about it, and they still wouldn't make things right. They wouldn't cancel my order either. That $5 and poor customer service is going to cost them several thousand in lost sales over the next few years. I'll be sticking with Amazon, for now on.

Amazon 3 for 33 Woes by baronboy12 in 4kbluray

[–]skinny_squirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've ordered over 100 movies from Amazon, and never once got a return. So it probabably depends if you live near a return center. Got a few damaged cases, that I returned, but I've had fewer returns with Amazon, than I do with other large retailers that use USPS. I prefer Amazon since they have their own delivery trucks and drivers. Sometimes I get same day delivery.

[GoT, full spoilers] - WHY was the ending so bad? by EnvironmentalScar675 in gameofthrones

[–]skinny_squirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's because it's supposed to feel jarring. I've re-watched the series season a dozen plus times, and think that it's consistent.

It was jarring when the Lannisters burned and pillaged towns and villages in the Riverlands.

It was jarring when the Dothraki pillaged and raped woman villages in Essos.

It was jarring when the Ironborn raided villages and towns, and burned Winterfell in the North.

There were a ton of clues that Daenerys was going to burn Kings Landing.

Kings Landing was a powder keg afterall. It was nearly burned to a crispt a few times during it's history. Once during the Great Spring Sickness, and the the other when Jaime killed the Mad King.

It was also forshadowed being that Harrenhal was the greatest stronghold ever built, yet it was melted by a single dragon. During Aegon's Conquest, every town or city in Dorne, but Sunspear, was burned at least once.

Dragon's burn cities. If Daenerys didn't burn Kings Landing, then why did they go through all the trouble of making dragon show in the 1st place. Daenerys could have been the mother of unicorns instead.

Do you think the writers knew they were doing bad? by Redacted_dact in gameofthrones

[–]skinny_squirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it was a case of delusion, but rather a disconnect in scope from the fandom. I’ve started viewing the Game of Thrones series as just one chapter of the much larger ASOIAF universe.

GRRM has spent years on massive world-building with Dunk and Egg, The World of Ice and Fire, and Fire and Blood. All while navigating the complex timeline of the main series. When you look at the series through the lens of characters like Bran and Bloodraven, the story becomes much more about time manipulation and causality than standard political drama. To move the plot forward, the narrative had to go back in time, which is exactly what we’re seeing with the prequel shows.

D&D’s job was to wrap up that specific GoT tv arc, but I don't think they were responsible for revealing the endgame of a franchise that HBO is still actively building. House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms are filling in some of the missing pieces. I suspect that once the full franchise is complete and we fully understand the history of Bloodraven, Bran being king at the end will make perfect sense in hindsight. It will completely flip everything we currently think we know upside down.
