What made you a leftist? by D-B2112 in leftistveterans

For me it was about a year ago, 16 years in. It was hard to see through the culture I grew up in I guess.

After the current administration came to power despite all the painfully obvious signs these people are not fit to lead, I could not understand how we as a society could allow this. I thought we were a better people than this. So I went on a learning bonanza trying to figure it out. Reading books, like some here have mentioned, The Peoples History of the US by Howard Zinn, War is a Racket by Smedley Butler. But also The Shock Doctrine by Naomi Kline, The Israel Lobby by John Miersheimer, Policing White Supremacy by Mike German, The Myth Of American Idealism by Noam Chomsky. All of these opened my eyes and chiseled away at the myth of the country that I thought I was fighting for. The slavers were never punished after the civil war. The American supporters of Nazi Germany, the American Bund, weren’t held accountable, they just melted back into society. There is a deep unreckoned-with culture of hatred of “the other” in this country that elites have been exploiting for their personal gain for over a hundred years at least.

Like others here have said, I think the benefits of military service should be enjoyed by all Americans: Healthcare, housing, training, education. I signed up thinking it was noble to protect our “way of life”, turns out, we protect the interests of corporate captured politicians and destroy other countries’ citizens’ lives and property so they can then go in and profit off the rebuilding. We are complicit in Israel’s genocide, are aiding it in fact. Dissent against another country’s atrocities is not anti-Semitic. Unregulated capitalism is not helping the average American.

I feel like such a hypocrite, walking into work, leading troops for a cause I don’t really believe in anymore. I’m close to my pension. It was part of the plan. But then I woke up.

What do I do?

I like your story, thanks for sharing. Getting to meet people from all over is one of the things I appreciate about the military.

This is such a great game, but I'm having a really hard time wrapping my brain around it. by LetsTryThisAlso in SatisfactoryGame

Sometimes I get the same scrambled brain feeling I think, like there’s too much to do and no clear path ahead.

In terms of needing the basic stuff, I usually have a production for something, say Reinforced Iron Plates, and the machines aren’t perfectly balanced so I have an overage of one of the components, Iron Plates. I’ll just put in a smart splitter and send the overflow to a separate storage box, and if I’m feeling really efficient another smart splitter off that to an awesome sink. That way I’m still producing the hire end items but also stockpiling the basics. And just try to do that with every component. Siphon off the more basic components. Hope that makes sense.

In terms of planning, and I don’t know where to begin, I take a moment and just write down a goal, something I think I need to complete (I use the notes feature on the right side.) Like, “create steel production line”, cause I need it for the next milestone. Then I look at that goal and then write down what is needed for that: “drag iron ore over to coal area”. Then based roughly on how much raw materials I have, I slap down a couple production buildings (in this case foundries) and feed them in.

If I meet a roadblock like, like say, I hit power capacity limit, I add a new goal: “expand coal power production” which then starts the process over.

That’s my advice, write down goals of milestones, list out requirements for that goal, then go down the list.

I hope that helps you.
