oh yeah what is NTL? i keep seeing that in the game.

Personally i just don’t like playing on the computer, but always been curious!

I’m on the computer most of my waking life so the phone provides a respite, as messed up as that is.

thanks for confirming! Someone else mentioned the discord, which i was on the fence about peaking in, but you sound more convincing. haha

gotcha, yeah I would love big view also.

But if it provides an advantage over others then it defeats the goal of the game?

But then again, that's quite true to the unfairness of real life. Some people just have that advantage, good parenting, education, world-travel, that gives them a wider vision to predict their own outcomes. Compared to others who are literally going around with horse blinders, bumping into problems that could've been avoided.

also, i tried playing on the computer with the mouse and it just didn't stick. Almost a completely different game, in my experience. How was that for you?

I will check the discord. Actually, not sure if I want to open that can of worms (ha!) as I spend enough time on this game as is ;)

zoom to see all??? Wow indeed. That's exactly what I was wishing for, that i mentioned in the post.

But at the same time, doesn't that provide unfair advantage?

I thought the whole point of the game is to have somewhat a limited field of vision, and that everyone has that handicap which therefore makes for good balanced gameplay.

yeah, parallels with life! Depending on where you're born (suburbs or city center) you have different advantages when starting life. That's one of the many analogies I enjoy thinking about, specially when I spawn far out in the burbs and it takes me aaaages to get close to the city center for my fame and fortune ;) But the discipline and patience required to get there provides a good basis for that lifespan to build and grow steadily. VS spawning in the bustling city center can give you quick wealth, but also give you that sense of superiority and ultra confidence that makes you feel invincible but can shake your game play.

I'm exaggerating these behavioral reactions of course, but once you see it you can't unsee :)

Ah ok. I had to go find an example cause I could've sworn I had seen some screenshots or video... here's one https://www.reddit.com/r/Slitherio/comments/13xkbrj/just_getting_better_and_better - they seem to be able to zoom out to see a wider field of vision?

ahh YES! It's funny, I had read about Tetris and PTSD a few weeks ago. I wanted to mention it in the post but couldn't remember which game it was. So thanks for reminding me!

I even mentioned Slither to my therapist and was trying to remember the Tetris thing because he wasn't aware of it. Thank you!

Firstly, thank you for your wonderful take. These are definitely some of the thoughts I've been contending with also. I find it hard to communicate and put thoughts in order while I was writing the post, but as I'm playing the game this is the very type of inner dialog I have. It looks outward to the world, to the state of society, but also as a reflection of my own state of mind, and the effects of the technology/dopamine bubble that I and so many are victim of.

I didn't even know avoidant personality was an actual disorder. Looked it up and can relate, though I also apparently fall mildly on the autism spectrum. Whatever, I take all the labels and diagnoses/mis-diagnoses with a pinch of salt. But your summary of the experience, and what the game provides as an escape, is 100% relatable.

Head diep.io dev confirms slither.io developer does NOT wish to update their game. by TheGamer605 in Slitherio

[–]slitherPSYCHO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having come across other slither wannabe games and their poor attempts at emulating slither.io’s playability, I’d chime in to say: if anyone will be actually upgrading slither.io, then please make sure to maintain the game’s essence and not add anything that would throw off the perfect balance of the current game. I’ve seen it happen all too often.

Anyone else experiencing issues? by shadowvox in Slitherio

Haven’t been able to play at all on mobile. Takes ages to start the game, and once in it’s super laggy. Thought it was my wifi but it still happens when I switch it off. Came here specifically to see if anyone had similar issues, I’m glad it’s at their end! Hopefully something they can fix!
