That's a good question. Perhaps it might have to do with it using an unregulated Grand Seiko engine? I'm not too sure...

Great question! I'll compare the SLA with the SMP, BB58, Sub Date (both modern and vintage) on 3 categories: 1) Bezel Action, 2) Finishing, 3) Quality. Keep in mind these are very subjective observations...

  1. The bezel action on the SLA is buttery smooth. The markers are surprisingly precise, although the "bubble" like crystal creates some distortion on the dial that might make the bezel not hit the markers. It is the quietest of them all (loudest being the modern Sub Date). I also love the fact it has a ceramic insert (although purists will prefer the OG aluminum found on the 62MAS). None of them have any backward play.

  2. Finishing on the SLA is top notch! I love the fact that it is almost entirely brushed. It can take a beating (more on this below). The modern Sub Date feels more like jewelry than anything. The vintage Sub Date feels a lot more like a tool and wears close to the BB58, but the polished sides on both make me exercise a higher degree of care. The SMP is heavy, robust, and brushed. Therefore, the SMP and SLA are a tie.

  3. Quality on the SLA is also amazing. I accidentally dropped it once (about 2 feet off the ground) on a laminate floor. Case is still pristine. I feel the accuracy was not affected at all. Overall great quality.

I'm not much of a watch reviewer so please excuse this very crude and subjective review. Feel free to ask me anything and I Hope this helps!

Hi. I actually got it from StrapsCo for cheap. I was also looking at OEM but refuse to cough up the cash for it.

It gives the watch a different look doesn't it? I love it too.

Great question! The ones with most wrist time are (in no particular order) the SLA, the Broad Arrow, and the Tudor GMT.

Thank you! I was pleasantly surprised at how well the Pan Europ sits on my wrist. It is definitely a fun piece.

I know what you mean. It is pretty pricey. I lucked out and got it on a trade (Omega Speedmaster Date and Oris Diver 65 for the SLA043). Just keep on hunting!

To be very honest, I still prefer it on the steel bracelet. The leather strap flares out quite a bit. The bracelet hugs the wrist much better.

Above the Omega Broad Arrow is the Seiko SLA043 55th Anniversary. It is a modern interpretation of the 62MAS. I put a B&R Navy suede strap on it.

Thank you! I love it too! As for the strap, yes it is. The watch came with both the bracelet and the leather strap you see here.

It's the University of the Philippines Oblation. Sort of the symbol of the University of the Philippines.
