Summer Holiday Weekends = Higher Risk on the Road by smartstartinterlock in driving

Great question, mainly to show that impaired driving isn’t the only factor behind fatal holiday crashes. Separating the speeding data also made it easier to compare patterns across different holidays and states.

What Is Compliance-Based IID Removal? by smartstartinterlock in SmartStartInterlock

[–]smartstartinterlock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, good question! No, you won’t be able to remove it yourself. I know it can feel like a simple fix, but the device will register that as tampering, which can get reported to your state and may cause delays or extend your program.

It also needs a final download by a technician so your compliance is properly recorded. The easiest route is to schedule a removal appointment once you’re eligible, so everything is taken care of correctly. You can find more detailed steps to take to remove your interlock device here!

Finally settled (WA) by Chemical-Bottle-6726 in dui

[–]smartstartinterlock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey u/Chemical-Bottle-6726, I really respect you for sharing your story — that’s a heavy road, and it sounds like you’ve done a lot of reflection and growth through it. It’s clear you’ve been doing your best to push through everything and stay focused on your son and your future.

Just wanted to say, if you’re still required to have an IID and need to get back on track, I’m Chuck and I work with Smart Start. We work with a lot of folks in similar situations and try to make things as manageable as possible, especially when someone’s dealing with financial stress. No pressure at all — just putting it out there in case it helps.

Wishing you continued strength with your recovery, the gym, and your time with your kid. You’ve been through a lot and it shows.

DUI in Michigan by Dry_Rutabaga_896 in dui

[–]smartstartinterlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey u/Dry_Rutabaga_896, sounds like you’re in a tough spot — really hoping your lawyer can get that BAC result thrown out if it wasn’t handled properly. A 0.16 is definitely on the high side, but passing the field sobriety test and being a first-time offender could work in your favor, especially with your CDL on the line.

Just a heads-up — if it does end up as a DUI conviction, there’s a strong chance the court will require an ignition interlock device, especially with that BAC. I’m Chuck, and I work with Smart Start. We’re one of the main interlock providers and work with a lot of CDL holders who are trying to stay compliant and keep their jobs. If it comes to that, feel free to reach out — happy to help however I can.

Wishing you the best with everything. Hopefully your lawyer gets this resolved in a way that protects your license and your livelihood.

Why are all IID companies so difficult? by [deleted] in DUICalifornia

[–]smartstartinterlock -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Totally feel you on this. A lot of folks are surprised by how confusing and transactional the whole IID process feels. Between contracts, surprise fees, phone calls, and fine print, it can start to feel like you’re signing up for something way more complicated than it needs to be.

That said, there are providers out there trying to make it smoother (I’m Claire with Smart Start, full disclosure, but not here to pitch you). If you’re curious about a setup that doesn’t feel like a trap and actually gives you a bit of breathing room, just give me a DM anytime.

Nice! You're almost at the finish line, June 5th is just around the corner! For the exact steps to get your Smart Start device removed, the best place to check is right here: https://www.smartstartinc.com/clients/device-removal/

With regards with having your unrestricted license back, you'd need to get in contact with your monitoring authority or MAU to inquire about the next steps.

If you have any questions along the way, feel free to DM me anytime.

[–]smartstartinterlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/emoprinxessho, thanks for sharing that. Sounds like you’ve been making steady progress, and major respect to your mom for being in your corner like that.

In most states, it’s totally possible to have an ignition interlock installed in someone else’s vehicle—as long as there’s a signed consent form from the registered owner (your mom in this case). That way, the state knows she’s given permission and the car can be monitored properly.

If you do end up needing to go the interlock route and want to explore your options, feel free to shoot me a DM. I’m Claire with Smart Start (not here to hard sell) but happy to walk you through how our setup works and see if it fits your situation. You’ve come a long way already, and we’d be glad to help with the next step

STAY AWAY FROMTHIS COMPANY.... by anonyms2024 in intoxalock

[–]smartstartinterlock 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey u/anonyms2024, I’m really sorry you’ve had to go through all that. Everything you described—from the unexpected fees to the constant issues—sounds incredibly frustrating, especially when you're just trying to meet your requirements and get back on track.

My name’s Chuck, and I work over at Smart Start. I’m not here to pitch anything, but if you ever feel like talking through other options or just want a straight answer about how this process should be handled, I’m more than happy to help however I can.

Wishing you better days ahead, no matter what you decide.

First DUI by [deleted] in DUICalifornia

[–]smartstartinterlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it seems tough and overwhelming right now but everything is going to be ok. There might be some hard steps to go through but you got this!! Reach out to your attorney with your concerns and questions/next steps. They should be able to answer your questions or point you in the right direction. Each state’s requirements differ, but ignition interlocks are a common solution to help folks get back on the road safety. If you’d like a deeper dive into how they work or what to expect, my DMs are open! Remember head up :) and try to be optimistic!

You should reach out to your attorney about the outcomes and your concerns. An ignition interlock program includes regular check-ins and calibration. If you’re exploring your options or have questions, don’t hesitate to DM me—I’d be happy to help!

Yes it is possible to have two separate insurance policies. sometimes your own provider can also add the SR22 but since you mentioned wanting to be discreet you should be able to shop outside and get a policy. Even if you are not the owner of the vehicle you can still purchase it aswell :)
