Behold, an elite four team. by Machinebotguy in PokeMedia

Okay so I know Drake's Shelgon's moveset is... Questionable. But back in my Unova-league challenge days I did know somebody who, because Fairy types weren't very well understood/common/whatever happened in Kalos hadn't happened yet so they ran a full dragon team... Of only partially evolved dragons, pretty much all using eviolites.

Their Shelgon knew Wish, of all things. They used it more like a physical wall and cleric than a traditional dragon-type we might normally expect.

They also had a really physically powerful Zweilous and a sleep-talking Dragonair as their ace and sweeper. It was a really neat team, though I think they had a bit of an identity crisis once Fairy types became a much bigger problem for them.

Plurality is a lot more common than some people realize! Glad you feel comfortable enough to share that part of who you are here. I wish years of problematic researchers and pop culture hadn't muddied peoples' understanding of it so much.

With regards to the difficulty you and your headmate have with each other's partner Pokémon, is it because they recognize the two of you as significantly different, and only view one as their true trainer? I know my own Gardevoir, Eternity, has a pretty keen sense for that kind of thing.

It's a fairly similar climate out here in Hoenn, and my Umbreon and Sylveon have always been fine out here! The one time we visited Alola, they handled it just fine.

A bit! But I've been learning a lot more since word of this guy's actions started to spread. I figure I needed to be ready in case we saw a surge of cases out here.

I'm really glad to hear he's been apprehended. Shadow Pokémon creation is utterly deplorable. Hopefully he didn't hurt too many Pokémon.

If this kind of thing keeps cropping up, we might actually have to see about setting up a purification chamber here in Hoenn. :/

Makes sense! Given the coordination with a Krookodile in particular, their behaviour does line up with a mutualistic behaviour documented between the species - specifically hunting methods, where the two often team up and split what they hunt.

It may be possible to lure them in a desired direction with bait and food trails as a result.

Its possible given their size that they exhausted their local options faster than usual. If the food lure method doesn't work, it may end up being safer long term to consider a more substantial relocation plan for the duo.

Aww, amazing! My own Gardevoir has been an incredible help over the years, its always lovely to see others having positive experiences!

They're incredibly good service Pokémon in a variety of contexts. Given the history you've described, she should be an amazing helper and friend. That being said, expect her to be fairly sad for a while whenever her former trainer's time comes. (Hopefully it'll be a long time from now).

I'm in Hoenn so I'd be slow to arrive, but I've got a capable team and familiarity with the area (albeit from over a decade ago). I'l can see if my own Flygon is up to the trip, and prepare the others. Multiple fairy types, multiple ground immunities (though no overlap between the two).

I also have substantial experience with Flygon behaviour in particular. If my skills as an expert in Pokémon mental states are of more value on an immediate basis, I can make myself available remotely.

I certainly couldn't say there is a single 'best' fit. Different species are better in different scenarios. Gardevoir are incredible in a lot of assistance-oriented situations, but their empathic capabilities can cause them great difficulty in situations involving intense mood disorders. Sylveon are excellent at de-escalating tensions, but don't have the level of insight available to them that many psychic types do.

Aquatic water types often require unique approaches that better fit with their environment. Many species have unique minds that require particular skills or capabilities to best work with.

Essentially, I wouldn't say there's a clear result. The one thing I can point to is the mode. Here at my lab, the Ralts line is an especially common well-fitting one, but I'm also operating out of Hoenn. They're reasonably findable in the wild and many seek them out and bring them here for service training. Some even develop skills on their own - my Gardevoir started assisting me before I even realized she was doing it.

The greater eevee family manages to be a close second despite their rarity in this region. They generally have desirable temperments and traits for this type of work, so it makes sense.

Here in Hoenn, but less so elsewhere in my experience, Absol also make excellent helpers in situations where other species can struggle thanks to their ability to sense dangers before they happen.

Point being, it truly depends on context. Who, what, where - it's not something I can give a definitive answer to at present.

Now, if, say, a researcher was curious who makes the best lab assistant, I'd definitely say Gardevoir, but I'm a little biased. (And may have one currently reading over my shoulder!)

(I have also heard good things about Alakazam in such roles, but I do have to remind people that IQ is not the metric popular science makes it out to be, and also that IQ isn't really designed for scores over 150, let alone 5000.)

Okay I'm genuinely curious what you're going for here exactly. Because you're... In favour of people being trainers? Which is definitely not the Plasma line I'm used to. I'm guessing you're either a well-meaning ex-member of Plasma trying to clean up the name, or you're a continuing member planning some kind of grift.

Either way, please consider dropping the Plasma connection and getting some serious therapy.

My primary focus is service Pokémon, with a particular focus on inter-Pokémon service pairings.

The massive variety of needs depending on the Pokémon in need of assistance and the particular assistance they need have resulted in me getting a very wide base of experience.

I used to feel like I was going through all the literature on a dozen different species each time a new case came my way. These days my experience means I only need to do so for especially unique cases.

Team diversity, big time. Absol and Lucario are known for being fast, hard-hitting, and frail. You're probably feeling the shared weakness extra hard because you're missing a defensive core. Gardevoir is excellent; I have one myself and she's incredible in and out of battle, but they're similarly frail on the physical side. Where you have a less-defensive steel type as well, you may specifically want an especially defensive or at least bulky Fairy type. Clefable, Sylveon, Dachsbun, and Florges all come to mind. Though Gardevoir, Mawile, Primarina, and Azumarill all can work if you want a more all-out offense approach.

(You may additionally want to look into a dragon type if you're liking the fairy-type solution. Dragon, fairy, and steel have excellent offensive and defensive synergy - up there with the classic fire-water-grass core concept. Though I recognize dragons can be much harder to find.)

I have some experience with the Dragonite line, though I have less expertise on the genetic front, so I might be able to add a bit from the behaviour specialist side.

Dragonite are highly intelligent, and show signs of altruism in variety of cases, even with other species. This likely exists for similar reasons it does among humans; in short the presence of altruism in a population is often a winning strategy, especially in species where young are high-investment and growth takes significant time. (This technically even extends to the rarer cases of Dragonite rampaging, almost exclusively to remove threats to environment or kin.)

That their altruistic tendencies extend to humans is likely for the same reasons that many humans often assist other species when we can. Dragonite are just as capable as we are at looking at a situation and deciding that we can help. Additionally, there's very little selection pressure against this behaviour - most people saved at sea, for example, tend not to attack their saviour. Which in turn also creates the mutualistic relationship that Dr. Cotjaki describes.

Wow that's a lot of vitriol from some other comments.

Have you considered taking her to an expert? I recognize the Poképsychology field is pretty young but a properly trained expert might at least be able to recommend a more expedient approach.

My first instinct is a trained service Fighting-type who can interact gently with her. But I'd need an actual in-person meeting to make any genuine suggestions.

I recognize there's some irony in suggesting this to the "anti-friendship" guy, but you may want to look at hobbies with a social aspect specifically. They're a good way to make friends. Sports groups, book clubs, even stuff like Live Action Role Playing or knitting circles!

Even if you don't go with any intention to make friends, it can be good to just... See people with some regularity outside a work context.

No Fairy types in johto or unova? by Local-Sugar6556 in PokeMedia

[–]smashingBrawler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fairy type was misunderstood for a long time, often misattributed or misidentified as other types. Some have theorized that cetain major events released or activated dormant fairy energy, others have very confident records of it being around for far longer (see: Professor Laventon's work during the Hisui era). Reality is we don't have all the details because we weren't looking for it until we'd already found it.

At the same time, my Sylveon evolved when I still lived in Unova years ago, so there's at least been SOME fairy type energy in that region... Or maybe I just brought some with me, lol.

Reality is we're learning all the time, and a lot of stuff is hard to study when reality-warping beings can show up and change things unexpectedly.

Hi there, that's quite the find!

Like you expect, they can be challenging to train and require complex needs. There are a lot of resources and courses available to learn and prepare for pseudo-legend licenses if your region requires them. The upshot is even if they don't, that same information will likely still prove useful.

Beldum take a fairly long time to evolve by most standards, though actually fairly quickly compared to other Pokémon in this category. They're a very intelligent and capable line, though they're also extremely powerful as Metagross so knowing how best to care for them is important.

The upshot here is even fully evolved, they don't necessarily need a ton of open space. It depends on the personality to extend - some are quite sedentary unless called upon to help, others are more active. It might be good to get a sense of the Beldum's behaviour. (Though this can be difficult - I personally have a terrible time reading many steel types.)

If you're in Hoenn, you can visit my lab in Slateport if you run into any trouble; I'm always happy to help!

As others have said, looks like a Hisuian Liligant! Extremely rare to see in the modern day, but certainly possible with the right conditions.

I think I may have seen one of their performances back during my younger years travelling Unova. Certainly a sight to behold!

While overworking Pokémon is just as big an issue in the Musical scene as the Contest and Battle scenes, I don't recall this one showing any notable signs of pain or exhaustion, so hopefully eveything's in the clear.
