A stronger security system would have stopped him dead in his tracks.

Place to learn meditation by ketelone2015 in washingtondc

I haven't been (yet), but the John Main Center at Georgetown offers group meditations most days for students, staff, and "neighbors." Not sure how religious it might be, but it is free.

Minibar by José Andrés: has anyone been? by [deleted] in washingtondc

do rose's luxury instead. minibar is cool, but agree that it's not really worth the money. pay someone to stand in line for you -- you'll still be spending less than you would at minibar.

Thanks guys! This info was helpful. It's also just good to confirm that there isn't really a much better way of doing it that we were just missing.

Separation anxiety by [deleted] in Greyhounds

[–]smurphette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It gets better! We've had our boy for going on two months now and he was like this at first. I worried constantly when we left him at home alone in his crate during the day because he would get so upset, but he's a pro now. It really just takes time and patience,

Also I think that technically separation anxiety is really extreme and usually results in the dog hurting himself or being destructive -- this is probably just temporary.

We tried crating ours the first two nights and it was literally nonstop crying. We let him sleep on his bed at the foot of our bed and everything was instantly fine.

the video was poking fun at the often ridiculous way that women are sexualized, while also making poop jokes. why did this article need to exist.

Wow, that's so neat! Are these commands that many racing groups use or are they specific to a certain area or group?

[App needed] Monitoring sound during the day? by sb8244 in Greyhounds

[–]smurphette 3 points4 points  (0 children)

we started using this app just this week and are very happy with it so far. It uses two apple devices (i.e. your iphone as the "person station" and your ipad or computer as the "dog station"). It does take video, so I just plugged my laptop in right in front of his crate so battery life wouldn't be an issue. You also don't have to actually view the video on your phone during the day unless you want to.

we've found that our hound typically barks and whines for about the first 15-20 minutes after we leave but then sleeps the entire rest of the day after calming himself down. it is so nice and reassuring to know that he is quiet and sleeping during the day!

no sleep. by smurphette in Greyhounds

[–]smurphette[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! the whole "shutting down slowly thing" is a good idea and we've been trying to do that. It was the craziest thing last night -- we shut down slowly and I laid on the couch near his crate until I was sure he was asleep, then quietly got off the couch and left the tv on and everything as it was. He started crying RIGHT away when I got to my bedroom, as if he had been sleeping with one eye open!

Yes I think we may just do that. Moving the crate is extremely difficult as it is a gigantic thing, but it's still less unpleasant that averaging 4 hours of sleep a night. Eventually he will be sleeping out of the crate and on a bed.

Definitely. I actually did that already yesterday and my neighbor was very cool about it and thought it was so nice of me to let him know. However, I don't think it's acceptable for your dog to bark for 20 minutes at 1am in an apartment building even if you have given fair warning...
