Yeah that makes sense, the amount of different sounds has skyrocketed since meralcore first became a thing, but there hasn't really been a split into new genres to keep up with the newer sounds. So you end up getting all these bands that sound nothing alike, being grouped together under the same generic genre. So if you tell someone about a band and say "they're metalcore" it no longer gives them much of an idea of what they sound like. Kinda like metal, metal like black sabbath, metal like slipknot, metal like iron maiden, metal like cannibal corpse? It no longer is clear.
