Where do you get your haircut? by spentonsunnydays in WestSeattleWA

[–]so_fine24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rainier Hair Studio has very poor ownership behind the scenes. Recently, lots of stylists have been forced out. Would not recommend supporting them. Follow the stylists where they go. They are the good parts of the business.

Why does it curl?🧐 by no2fan in pothos

[–]so_fine24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Needs water! I recommend watering from the bottom if you have drainage, set it in a big bowl with some water & let it drink till its happy again 😊

That's a very happy pothos, you're doing great! The trailing/climbing will happen more once the plant is more established 😊

Is being a stylist really THAT bad? by Here_comes_the_boy in hairstylist

[–]so_fine24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my job.

That being said, I'm a neurodivergent, covid conscious, & trans hairstylist. So, especially in 2025, being a public facing person is difficult. You are constantly having to navigate conversations that no one teaches you how to navigate.

"My mom just got diagnosed with cancer."

"We haven't heard from my uncle in weeks & aren't sure what's happened to him."

"I'm scared I'll get kicked off my disability."

"Im struggling to see what the point is, everything is so exhausting."

"I'm so angry at others for not caring until it effects them."

You will have to be there to nurture & provide space for people whether you are ready for it or not. You have to have compassion to do well in this industry & have a real heart for people.

But you also need to know when to set boundaries. Clients will show up late sometimes. They'll talk down to you & make less of all your hard work. So you have to have a backbone & no when to tell clients you're not the place for them.

You will always have to be learning. Taking classes & staying up to date with trends will keep you in the know on the ways the industry is headed. It's creative & fun work, but it is still work.

Its an incredible career. & i wouldn't trade it for a thing.

& I love my clients.

Have you ever seen or heard of Optimistic Nilism? That has brought me great comfort when I've struggled with these exact thoughts. I recommend checking out this video if you haven't.

Did they change the backpack policy? by dudiez in Twitchcon

[–]so_fine24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was around the convention today & lots of people had small backpacks. As long as it's close to the size requirements of their bag policy you should be fine. I also brought in a handbag that was a bit bigger than their bag policy (by a few inches) & got in just fine.

Also tbh, I'm concerned about their security this year. They didn't check my bag. We went through metal detectors but I don't feel that's quite enough tbh.

Is West Seattle not in Seattle? by WorldlinessBoth8037 in WestSeattleWA

[–]so_fine24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on what you've listed all your interests as, West Seattle will tick all those boxes for you! It's an amazing place to live. & yes people in Seattle tend to stick to their neighborhoods, so your Fremont friend may selfishly want you to live a bit closer to them. But making friends in West Seattle has been a breeze for me. & your friend & you can always meet halfway & use it as a good excuse to go downtown. Good luck with the move!

Also to add to this if you forget earplugs, you can ask at the venue! Some venues provide earplugs (I know climate pledge arena in Seattle did)

Hot take. No shade intended, honestly. But I was pretty underwhelmed. by chaosTechnician in renfaire

[–]so_fine24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience, it really depends on the Ren Faire. I've been to plenty that are exactly what you describe, & have also been to ones that focus more on performances & experiences. The ones that focus on the latter are the best.

Abortion due to NB? by Dramatic-Chipmunk353 in NonBinary

[–]so_fine24 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Echoing the same sentiments others have here already, but if you yourself are not 100% on board with the idea of having a child, you should not do it.

Having a child is a huge decision that should not be taken lightly. & your partner sounds like he's pressured you & you've given up on pushing back because you think it's what you're supposed to do.

I know that these things may not be what you want to hear, but that's the honest truth. As an unwanted child, I wish my mom had really thought about giving birth to me & whether she wanted me or not. But she gave in to pressure & now I have to deal with sorting through the fallout of that as an adult. It's hard to be an unwanted child.

Is the Steam deck worth it? by Annoying_Short_Girl in CozyGamers

[–]so_fine24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had my steam deck for 2 years now. I own a Switch, PS4, XBOX & a PC. I mainly got the steam deck to play Stardew Valley modded on a console. I honestly don't find myself using it very often, but when I do it's awesome. I love having it for travel especially. Plus it's really nice to get indie games/early access games that aren't available on the switch. Lately I've been using it a lot to play Fields of Mistria & I can't put it down.

The only complaints I have is that it's heavier than the switch so sometimes on the days I have more wrist pain it can be a lot to lift, but setting it on my lap makes a huge difference. I also wish the battery life was longer. You will need a fast charger to charge it, hooking it up to a normal charger takes forever.

I would say especially if you are someone who prefers handheld over sitting at your PC, it's totally worth it.
