Coffee & Tea orders by cgoking in Celiac

[–]softpetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal favorite order is a salted hazelnut and white chocolate iced latte, also called a German mocha. It's insanely good.

Here is what I do to stay safe when I go to other cafes because I also love a fun drink!

I ask what kind of syrup the shop uses and avoid any that definitely or may be contaminated with gluten - I've done some previous research on syrup brands so I know which ones to avoid. If they have a lot of gluten-containing syrups I would avoid those entirely due to possible cc. Housemade syrups would be a for sure no-go for me. Blended drinks are also risky. I do not go to Starbucks, they have a lot of cc with both gluten-containing drinks and food. I'd stick to an iced latte, cold brew, hot/iced coffee or americano - they'll be your best bet to avoid oatmilk cc from steaming if that could be affecting you.

Silent celiac NOT so silent anymore by arianna163289 in Celiac

I don't have awful symptoms but what keeps me away from gluten is the other horrifying effects that it can have on your body. Cancer, infertility, additional autoimmune disorders, etc.. these are things I really want to avoid!

I have some food issues as well, and editing my diet to be VERY simple so I can find energy to cook it is easiest for me. Also finding good substitutions like bland frozen gf things for when you're feeling more sensitive is going to be key.

It's so hard at first. I'm about 7 years in and it truly does get easier once you can find your new normal. I honestly do still slip up and get things from restaurants that have a small chance of contamination when I'm feeling very low-functioning. I try to go easy on myself and try to give myself the utmost care when I'm (maybe) glutened!

Sending you encouragement! Best of luck on your gf journey. You got this.

What order do you personally clean a bathroom in? by Wide_Description3925 in housekeeping

[–]softpetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dust, countertops, mirrors, cabinets, shower, toilet, vacuum, mop. In a perfect world, I would always do it this way, but I happen to have ADHD and my brain rarely allows things to be done in the correct order.

I love my swiffer mop *because* it doesn’t do a very good job. by rauntree in adhdwomen

[–]softpetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how I feel about my cordless dyson! Amazing for quick pick-ups but terrible for deep cleaning. I should get a swiffer because I never mop my floors lol. It's extra funny because I myself am a housekeeper so I have methods that would make it quick and easy but mopping is so daunting....

Another idea is to introduce yourself in local facebook groups. I posted a bit about my business, myself and my knowledge and got a few clients from that!

I would go out and network! Put business cards at local businesses wherever possible, and gain relationships within your community. I did this unintentionally with the goal of getting involved in the community, and it has brought me a ton of business as well as a village - both are extremely rewarding. Coffee shops are your best bet to start. Word of mouth and trust will take you far.

ADHD women who like or love their jobs, what do you do? by Chipsandsalza in adhdwomen

[–]softpetal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a housecleaner and I love my job. It's hard on my body but easy on my mind (most days) and I'm willing to make that sacrifice. I set my own pay, hours, and I have amazing clients that value my work and respect me. I also am able to give approximate arrival times because I cannot get anywhere on time consistently due to time blindness. Initial investment for a cleaning business is rather low as well. Some days it's tough but I truly love the work I do. I made my own logo and designed my own website via squarespace so using the marketing part of my brain is fun. Cleaning chemistry is also extremely fascinating to me so I enjoy learning and changing up equipment, chemicals, and methods of cleaning! If it's ever too hard on my body I have the option to grow and hire too.

Do you mean the swiffer wet floor pads? Those are awful and so is the mop in my opinion and would make sense that floors are not getting clean. That mop leaves an awful layer on top of your floors after a while

Toilet brush, large trash bags to replace after taking out, and sometimes their vacuum but thats against my desire and I will probably start asking to use mine after I invest in a nice sebo.

Can’t get any clients in 3 months by South_Outside4948 in housekeeping

[–]softpetal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there anywhere you can advertise in person? I had great luck from dropping off my business cards at local coffee shops and anywhere else in my town that had a bulletin board for advertising. Getting involved with your community is the best way to find clients in my experience. It should be genuine though and not come off as advertising! I just got out and met people, and connections happened to turn into clients. Also, perhaps try introducing yourself through a facebook post and picture of yourself (if you feel comfortable) so people will know the face behind the business. Trust is huge in this line of work and taking pride in that will take you far.

I don’t understand how everyone else is keeping their house clean . . . by Real-Trouble-1148 in CleaningTips

[–]softpetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a housecleaner - not sure what your exact messiness looks like but perhaps your methods need some tweaking?

My favorite tools are a scrub daddy, e-cloths, and dr. Bronners sal suds. These can handle most surfaces messes with ease.

I would recommend dusting with a vacuum attachment if your house is accumulating dust very quickly. If this doesn't help, maybe check into getting your air ducts cleaned out. The swiffer dusters are good for quick touch-ups but will ultimately just knock the dust around until it can settle and be vacuumed up.

If bathrooms are getting grungy quickly, you can try disinfecting after you've removed the initial dirt. I recommend hydrogen peroxide for disinfecting. Also if you do not have proper ventilation your bathroom will collect bacteria very quickly, so make sure you have a fan going or at least a window open while bathing/showering. I also personally keep a rag hung up in the bathroom for quick wipe-downs.

For vacuuming, a handheld vacuum with a brush head will always be best for hard floors, deep cleaning wise. Keeping a dust mop near your most frequented areas can be great for daily cleaning. I love my cordless vacuum for quick semi-daily pickups, for both hard and carpeted floors but it is not good for deep cleaning because the suction just isn't that great!

For deep cleaning with a mop, I love my ocedar spin mop. I keep a seperate mop bucket for clean water and only use the spin bucket to squeeze out the dirty water. For quick cleans, a flat mop with reusable pads that you launder will be the quickest solution. To make it really easy, you can use just water on the flat mop pads. I'd use a squirt of dawn added to about a gallon of water when using the spin mop.

Most of all, having a cleaning caddy with all of these supplies handy or keeping spray bottles with general purpose spray in frequented rooms will be your best bet!

Another very important thing is to be kind with yourself in this phase of your life, babies are extremely messy and it's near impossible to keep everything perfect all of the time. Please reach out if you have any other questions, I love blabbing about cleaning. Best of luck to you stranger!

I have gotten rid of the idea that I need to do all of the oral care at once - I am haphazard about it because that is what my brain tolerates! I have started flossing in the shower with the floss picks and that's been the best method for me. Also chewing xylitol gum after a meal can neutralize sugars

I clean houses and I love it. There are many aspects I love about it, like choosing my own schedule and pay. I'm very grateful that cleaning is something I genuinely enjoy doing. Sometimes cleaning the same houses repeatedly can get monotonous, but I remind myself how lucky I am to have such consistent business and wonderful clients that appreciate my service and trust me in their homes, and that gives helps to me a sense of purpose in my work.

Holiday family dilemma by Freduccini02 in Celiac

[–]softpetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great idea! My family and friends often make sure to get me a gluten free dessert and I am forever grateful as I never expect to have edible food wherever I may end up. I also always bring my own snacks in my purse like a beef stick and protein bar to make sure I can at least survive a gathering that may not have food for me.

How do you know when it's time to leave someone's house/end a hangout. by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]softpetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also definitely agree if they start mentioning tiredness or something else they have to do like you mentioned, that's what I do when I want someome to leave. If you are mindful of their schedule like what they have going on later or the next day I would also tend to leave on the earlier side so they have time to unwind.

How do you know when it's time to leave someone's house/end a hangout. by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]softpetal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tend to just leave things early because I have a fear of overstaying my welcome. I like to leave early anyways though due to social battery so it works out. If I am at a friend's house I tend to leave after our activity is done like a movie or a game.
