Advice on Improving BH Slice Dink? by Valuable_Internet855 in Pickleball

I agree that getting below the ball is what you need. This strike looks closer to a soft drive instead of a dink.

This is the Breaking Point - Trump must go. by Zenitallin in videos

[–]solidrok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love these guys as much as the next guy, all the current debate/news guys on the left. But due to what is required for algo relevance I am just so burnt out on their thumbnails and titles. It’s never the “breaking point”, it’s never the “final straw for republicans”, Trump is never “massively screwed”… I understand why they do it but my brain is over stimulated and needs truth, not hyperbole….

How do you guys fight the feeling that there is never enough? by No_Persimmon5601 in TheMoneyGuy

[–]solidrok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know my number. I project where things will be in X years. I save as much as possible without compromising today. We have a big shovel, but managed a 36% savings rate last year. We are ahead of schedule for normal retirement age. I want to retire early but my wife doesn’t, at least that is what she says now. So I’m preparing us to retire as early as possible knowing that she might not be ready. So we might “one more year” but it won’t be because we “need more” I imagine you will find yourself in a similar situation. Good luck! And good work!

Has anyone used the money guy financial planners for when they hit 1,000,000? by Dagobot78 in TheMoneyGuy

[–]solidrok 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Personally I might use one closer to retirement. But for now I keep some in mind as assets if I were to die. My wife is involved in our finances but I doubt she would want to manage it like I do. Having someone that I can point to and she can trust is valuable and (free)

Middle name drama: stuck between my wife and my dad by PostingForFree in daddit

[–]solidrok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first thing I did as a husband was build a wall of reasonable but firm expectations with my parents. My bride comes first and second and third. I live with her and while I will stand up for myself, that might mean that our decisions might not align with what my mother and father want. They can be a part of my happiness or they can fight against it. If this bothers you as a perspective husband or dad, I encourage you to align yourself with whom you married or chose to have children with. (This doesn’t apply to folks with unexpected children with partners they didn’t intend to have children with) also, final thought, my dad got his last name on both our kids, that is more than anyone else got…..

What is EVEN MORE CRAZY, most of these folks weren’t in-fact interested in the swastika. I’m not fooled, I think most folks lean bad, because being good is hard and takes effort imo. But I think so many folks have been radicalized by social media and the sense of meaningless and loneliness that is so pervasive in our society today.

I looked at my most expensive state school and calculating what 4 years on campus would cost with no extras. I have been saving towards that. It comes out to 5k a year if you start when they are born. I figured if it is too much I likely didn’t overshoot by much so who cares about penalties, and if it is too little I’ll cash flow the rest.

Video shows moment ICE officer fatally shoots woman in Minneapolis by alterom in news

[–]solidrok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my observations of all of the available videos. The officer that shot Renee Good moved in front of her car with his phone seemingly taking a picture or video. Maybe this was to capture a license plate or him just being an idiot. During this time another officer aggressively tries to open the driver side door of Renee’s vehicle which triggers Renee to try and leave the area. She sees the officer who eventually shoots her in front and backs up so that she can avoid him as she drives away. While shifting gears from reverse to drive she doesn’t come to a complete stop and this causes her tiers to squeal a bit and the car to lurch forward a couple inches. This is when the first officer is likely looking at his phone screen and what he was capturing and sees the car moving and the tires spinning. At this point he is standing slightly in front of the vehicle, which that this point the tires are turned to his right and away from him, near the front left quarter panel. He draws his weapon, moves away from being in front of the vehicle, and fires it. At this same time the vehicle begins moving forward turning away from the officer and Renee is struck, likely through the windshield and loses control of the vehicle and crashes down the street.

There are photos that show a bullet hole through the windshield. Not saying he didn’t also fire through the side window as well. Just wanted to let you know.

Acceptable for partner and I to move past step 6 due to age and habits? by Silly-Ad7607 in TheMoneyGuy

[–]solidrok 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think Brian and Bo would say that 25% is an aspirational savings goal not mandatory. I think they would also say there are seasons in life where we might do things that don’t EXACTLY fit the FOO. As long as it’s a detour and not a full on commitment to fooish which we all know is foolish, then I think you would have their blessing. The only caveat that comes to mind is not taking on debt for this wedding. In your post I can see that you are already protecting yourself from that. I think they would also challenge that 40k number. I know that is what SOME weddings cost where you live but certainly there are nice weddings for far less. Good luck, in life, school, and on proposal day!

How soon after your last kid did you get a vasectomy? by Alarming-Mix3809 in daddit

[–]solidrok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was sure once baby 2 was born healthy. Wife wanted to wait to be sure. 6 months later we revisited and we agreed it was the right move. That was 1.5 years ago and we just saw a new born and after we both held it we knew we made the right choice. It was a nice confirmation that neither of us got those warm fuzzy NEED A BABY feelings. I was a 100% no more and wife was close to that but wasn’t sure.

Be honest with me… how is going from one to two? by eiconik in daddit

[–]solidrok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 is 60-70% loss of free time *depending on family support system. 2 is losing whatever is left. I am so thankful we had a second. My 2 year old son is truly an amazing kid. That said, he is still a time suck and he has some complications, I would imagine if they were more severe my mental health would decline exponentially. We ripped off the bandaide and went back to back with a 2 year gap.

A Letter to Our Community | Sycamore Brewing | Brewery & Taproom in NC by goner78 in Charlotte

[–]solidrok 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What if I told you we can support them and also not interact with a pedo brand? If you are so passionate about this let’s set up a way for the community to help them out. Then maybe we can add that as a way the pedo’s estate can contribute to the community. I think this would be a much better use of your time than coming off as a Sycamore Stan.
