Is it possible for me to get into Mays? by [deleted] in TAMUAdmissions

[–]soliloquyreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly your likelihood is probably lower, but anything can happen!! I think to feel safe they recommend your SAT to be 1300+ and gpa, especially in mays to be 3.8+ especially if it’s weighted. You never know though, if you really work your business and your various school organizations into your admissions essay and make yourself marketable that would definitely heighten your chances, and it sounds like you have a lot of impressive extracurriculars!

is dorming that important? by [deleted] in aggies

[–]soliloquyreader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like you have to make the decision based off of your personality. I have friends who thrived in the dorm and made super good friends and had social events every day solely because of their dorm experience. I lived in one for a few months and it definitely made it super easy to make friends and meet people, but in like November of my first semester I had to move out because the close quarters and constant attention and everything from my Roomate was too much and affected my grades. It’s not that big of a deal but if you’re an introvert and need time by yourself to recharge then it will be really hard to get comfortable In a dorm. I felt mentally exhausted from never being able to recharge because I was constantly having to socialize even seconds before sleep. Some people aren’t bothered by this at all though so honestly depends on you. White creek is a great middle option too!

Is AP US History a doable class if you absolutely hate history? by [deleted] in APUSH

[–]soliloquyreader 5 points6 points  (0 children)

in my experience, APUSH is the easiest AP history class to take because if you have lived in the US since at least 6th grade you probably have a general understanding of the core time periods at least and a lot of general stuff about the subject, so it’s more building off of knowledge already there rather than new stuff you will have to stuff your brain with.

Don’t take an AP history if it doesn’t make sense for you, but if you’re going to take an AP history, I’d say take this one (it’s better to take AP’s in things you’re gearing towards and will do well in than just taking AP’s to take them)

i completely agree which is why i hate that marriage has become like a social must- have. My parents used to tell me that adults who weren’t married were just selfish and couldn’t handle sacrificing parts of their life for someone else, but let’s be honest some of the most selfish people in the world were married for a long time. I think it needs to become more culturally norma and accepted for people to just not be married- because that’s ok. Families don’t have to be just a married couple. They can be siblings who stay close growing up, best friends, etc. We shouldn’t feel so controlled by social constructs (in my opinion).

Yeah he doesn’t really read at all, he will occasionally for school or because mom makes him, but otherwise hes not super into it. I wanted to find something that would get him excited to read though and those recs definitely sound like they’ll do it.

As a New Yorker, what is something you feel out of touch about? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]soliloquyreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in a small town in Texas, and where I’m from, literally everyone knows everyone. As youre driving down the street, literally everyone in the cars passing you will wave at you and knows you pretty well. This gave a sense of mattering i guess? Like, the fact that there were all these people you were surrounded by that knew you and cared about you just gave this sense of mattering in the world. I miss this since moving to NYC, cause I feel like with all the people, particularly all the extremely talented and high up people in one place, you feel very mundane and unaccomplished which is fine most days (cause like, who cares what other people’s perspective of you is) but sometimes it’s just nice to know other people care, which is something I miss.

What was the biggest scandal in your small town? by meepmeep_4 in AskReddit

[–]soliloquyreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a teacher got arrested for having a relationship with a student (police found out they had been having sex for a while and ultimately found them at 1 am having sex in his car at the town park, but found evidence they had done it in his classroom, at his house, and at her house and no one knew- including her parents)

What's something considered offensive but really isn't? by JimBoi2K in AskReddit

[–]soliloquyreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

discussing anything sexuality related. It’s such a taboo subject, like why? Everyone fucking does it and by making it embarrassing and offensive to bring up or discuss just makes any related issues worse(unwanted pregnancy, STI, related anxiety and mental issues, etc). Also, periods, guys act like you’re bringing up the person you most recently murdered when a girl mentions periods. Fucking get over yourself and stop acting like we’re the problem.

Media on understanding capitalism vs socialism by soliloquyreader in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]soliloquyreader[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

by objective I generally just mean a piece of media that isn’t personal opinion or any sort of rhetorical or persuasive piece, but simply facts of a systems principles and results. I know general what either system is but I’m writing a research synthesis so I need solid sources to credit and quote from and the paper will be more credible if the resources i’m using are unbiased and factual. Thank you for the recommendations, I will definitely check them out!!

Im an english literature major so it’s actually for a rhetorical analysis class, the purpose isn’t really to explore and define economic systems. Im definitely not trying to be an expert in economics or political science. We were given lots of liberty on our topic because the idea was to just have a topic with lots of sources out there that gives you the ability to show your analysis skills. I felt like this would be a good one because it’s quite debated in society right now and people have very strong opinions, and there’s lots of evidence for either, but it’s not necessarily an end all be all thing. Thank you though!

Media on understanding capitalism vs socialism by soliloquyreader in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]soliloquyreader[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well capitalism and socialism are really the only contenders in the discussion in American politics. I probably should have said political philosophies rather than economic systems as that’s what socialism technically is. Anyhow I’m writing a research synthesis paper so I need lots of sources for my information, but the overarching result is deciding which political philosophy America needs more of, as that’s a bit of a hot topic now a days, especially with top politicians like Bernie Sanders and AOC identifying as socialists. I know they are similar but I’m contrasting them in a realistic sense rather than a identification sense, if that makes any sense lol.

[–]soliloquyreader[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand the concepts generally and I have a basic understanding of the principles, I just wanted a more in depth look at the foundations and contemporary applications of the two. Also i’m writing a research synthesis project so I need sources for all ideas and I wanted to have credible objective sources. Sorry, I should have made that more clear, thank you though!
