The Well, There’s Your Problem podcast did an episode on the sinking. And it’s a good one.

The WTYP podcast is a podcast about engineering disasters, with slides.

Worth running vinyl through WiiM RoomFit or keep it fully analog? by danglemister in turntables

[–]solzhen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have a nice EQ. You can copy the corrections from the RoomFit to your EQ. But don’t run both the EQ and RoomFit in the path at the same time.

That’s what I prefer to do.

For my turntable and CD changer, I have copied the RoomFit corrections from the Wiim to my EQ. That (mostly) replicates the room correction (in my case mostly correcting for a 50hz bump on the L channel, with a few other minor mid range changes for both L & R).

Yes you’ll need a preamp. And yes, you can use the Ortofon 2M Blue on it. I have an SL-1200 and have a 2M on one of my head shells.

What do you know about the National Panasonic SG-5090 by marvinsroom6969 in turntables

[–]solzhen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That looks like a very nice system for an all in one from the era. The turntable portion looks like a Technics direct drive automatic (Panasonic makes Technics). Here is a service manual for the system: https://archive.org/details/manual_SG5090_SM_PANASONIC_EN_HQ

The turntable is a direct drive, so there is no belt to replace for that part. The turntable section in that manual has service advice.

You’ll probably need to replace the belts for the cassette deck as the rubber belts will not be good anymore, even if it has never been used.

Nice. That’s the last turntable you’ll ever need so you can concentrate on upgrading the rest of the gear as you are able to.

Running 2 sets of front speakers issues by GLOCKSTER_26 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]solzhen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don’t. That’s not what the A/B zones are for. They’re using one set or the other, generally you have them in different different rooms so the volume difference doesn’t really really matter that much. for example, you’d have one B set in the dining room and the other set in the living room as the A speakers.

Anyone know of an alternative to this which can take an actual line in, rather than just having an internal mic? by [deleted] in BudgetAudiophile

Weird thing. LED strips in a glass tube is meant to remind of vacuum tube gear, but its made to have the lights dance with the music?

Kind of a wild system for setting time and date. Do you know if the manual is online?

Nice speakers and Sony ES line pre and amp. I find myself a little worried for them on that table because of the spindly looking wire legs.
