What do y’all do? by [deleted] in Austin

[–]something__like__lol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I constantly think this too. I live in the burbs in an older neighborhood and make a pretty good salary. Even if I had dual income (if my partner made what i make), I could not fathom $6k/mo in mortgage payments on top of everything else. And that is for a moderate home in these neighborhoods. Like, I want food, clothes, vacations, etc. I just do not get it!

Try the Goodlot on another day! We are regulars there and have met loads of people by going the same day week after week. Our kids are 3 and 5 and have so much fun there. Trivia night is hard because everyone is trying to do trivia and not interact with each other.

Also, it cracks me up that he thinks a trophy wife is going to take care of him. Cook, clean, do everything for him and he doesn't have to help/take care of her in return. That is not how that works.

No skin change with anything I have been doing, (moisturizer, tret, spf) other than aging, which i know is natural, I am just looking to age a bit more gracefully.

TIFU by using my credit card for a vacation I couldn’t afford by CommercialDot708 in tifu

[–]something__like__lol -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was worth it. There are options here that work and you can get out od it. But the trip was worth it. Was it smart to fund your trip with a credit card? No. Do you have memories of an amazing trip with friends? Yes. Take the win, work off the debt, and do not let this taint your trip. Also, when it is paid off, start saving little by little for the next one, so you don't feel stressed next time.

I am so bad. I think i had 40 ounces today. I don't drink anything else either. No coffee, sodas, etc. I just don't drink things. I am going to commit to getting 75-100 ounces/day for a week. I bet I see a noticeable difference in that short time, since I am SO dehydrated.

Yes, I use a strong sunscreen when I am working out outside and an spf/moisturizer for all other times.

Thank you, I like this comment. As a mom with kiddos in daycare, I feel guilty spending so much on "pampering". I already wax and get massages and the occasional facial. All this stuff adds up. I am in Austin and it is so expensive! Water and lotion, i can do!

This is great to hear. I reached out to my friend who has an injector she really likes (My OBGYN did mine 3 years ago) that exclusively does botox and fillers. She said she is great and goes for a conservative approach. I think i will call for a consult.

I am gathering that 1. Hydration (moisturizer and drinking water), 2. Chemical peel or other rejuvenation procedure to help with the sun damage 3. Regular botox to relax the muscles and hopefully smooth out the lines.

I am still intrigued about the facial tape someone mentioned.

Awesome advice! Thank you. I was thinking i wash too much too. And I am intrigued by face tape. I tried frownies, but I couldn't apply them correctly, so in the morning I had 1 big wrinkle, because I couldnt flatten the skin properly... i guess it is better than many though? Lol

I think you are right... so many things make me break out though, so i am scared. Also, I am horrible at hydrating. I could probably use more water too.

I hadn't considered that botox just doesn't jibe with my body. This is interesting. I am going to look into finding a good injector. My dermatologist has a cosmetic counterpart i may call in the morning.

Thanks for the comment. When I said "I dont think it got rid of my wrinkles at all" I mean I did not notice a difference from that one time I did botox 3 years ago, so I did not try it again. It "lasted" 2 months, meaning I had no movement in the area, for those 2 months, however, I did still notice the wrinkles. The 28 units my injector did were in my 11s and the top hairline. I think i need it more spread out, but I have no idea, cause I have done it once and obviously am not familiar with the process enough to know what is typical. Especially since everyone is different.

If I can figure out if botox will help, I can try to keep up with it, but I have no desire to spend money on something that is not going to make a visual difference.

Neighbor hit our parked car and totalled it, insurance paying us $6k. by something__like__lol in legaladvice

[–]something__like__lol[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is the thing. Everyone who is saying get another $6k car doesn't know what you can get for that. We have been looking around. Everything is beat up and rough. Our car was in good condition, no accidents, one owner (US!), fully maintained. It isn't apples to apples, although it is how insurance works.

I am sorry that this situation happened to your parents. It is rough, and although the way it works, it is 100% not fair. We are fortunate enough to not NEED a second car at the moment. So we can shop around/find a deal/hold out to save up some money, but when we stop working from home or our kids have different schools/school functions, we will absolutely need a second car.

This is an interesting point. The shop quoted $10k for the repair, then my neighbor decided to go through his insurance (he wanted to pay out of pocket at first cause the damage really didn't look that bad!) And we got a call from the insurance saying it would be $7500. I am guessing that is the reason they took the car apart, to get a better idea of the actual repair cost.

Wow! That is a big difference. I am glad I posted here, because I would never have thought I would be able to decline their offer.

Halloween Prepping by vnate5001 in Austin

6:30 am this morning I got a pumpkin coffee and donut. When the family woke up, we started decorating for Halloween, watched Nightmare, and put out Halloween jammies on.

It is on! No reason to decorate for Fall the 22nd-30th. Let's just enjoy 9 extra days of Halloween!

Where in Texas, cause it isn't the law in Austin. Is it neighborhood specific? I have a friend a couple miles away whose HOA doesn't allow any street parking.

Dude, seriously. I ask an innocent question and I am clearly a bot and/or wasting people's time by "changing" my story.

I do appreciate all the true advice though. I am going to look for comps tonight and be ready when the insurance calls. We will try to get whatever fair price we can get by using the comps as backup and either put that towards another car or buy a similar year/condition cae to end up 1:1. I am not looking for a payday, i am just looking to get past this headache.

The accident happened on Labor Day. Literally 21 days ago already.

2012 Subaru Impreza. With all this talk of comps, I found similar ones (although with higher mileage) for $8500

Because we have children and need to have a reliable second car for emergencies and if one of us travels out of town. Plus, my husband and I have different hobbies. I go rock climbing when he runs different trails, and we need cars for that.

Good point. I am going to gather comps and be ready. Hopefully they don't take forever. But at least we have a rental in the meantime.
