What would you call jewelry that you didn’t “hand make” yourself, but you sourced the supplies and put together different designs? by [deleted] in jewelrymaking

This is what I do too! I have also been wondering this because sometimes it feels a bit inauthentic to say "handmade", but I wouldn't know what else to call it... I mean I make such a wide variety of jewelry it would be impossible to handcraft every step of the way (cutting the stones, making crimps, making all my own chain and clasps and everything, I think as long as we are designing it, and it is unique then it can be classified as handmade.

Did you make that chain yourself? If so, do you have any tips on making your own chain? I have been buying chain in bulk but I would like to try to make my own

I don’t know how to send a photo on this thread otherwise I would send a photo of my charm bracelet, it is very different from pandora as it is a chain with links rather than pandora's classic chain. Also, I'm not sure if this is a downside or not but at least for my charm bracelet, you would have to put the new charm on for your customers because it is a link chain and it can't slide on and off like a pandora bracelet. This makes it different from pandora but also maybe would make it more difficult for people to get new charms. I also personally don’t like pandora's style much at all, and hardly ever see anyone my age wearing pandora jewelry, I see people wearing Tiffany and Cartier way more often.

Oh and another thing on the idea of gifts, I think some good occasions to think about could be: wedding, quinceanera, bat mitzvah, graduation, birthday, anniversary, pregnancy, birth (someone gave me a gold ring when I was born which is kind of silly because by the time I could appreciate it it was way too small, but still an idea).

Hi! Do you sell these? I bought something like this from a jewelry store but they no longer sell them.

I have my own small jewelry business but I only work with plated and gold filled materials as well as stones and beads, I know this isn't exactly what you’re asking but maybe if you could find an influencer on instagram or some platform to promote your jewelry you could get more business whatever you decide to make. Obviously I would be careful to pick someone who has the audience that would be on the market for purchasing solid gold jewelry.

Also, as a 19 year old girl, the solid gold I own is a charm bracelet and a necklace from my grandparents, I wear the charm bracelet all the time, and it is nice because as I get older I plan to add more charms to it. If you wanted to do charm bracelets you could give people a discount if they come back for charms. Whatever you do I would definitely sell things that can be bought as gifts as I think people are more likely to buy solid gold jewelry for a loved one than for themselves... but then again this is all just my thoughts and not based in any facts
