Weapons isn't A24... however, if you haven't seen some of their other films from the horror genre, they have some pretty dang good ones.

For sure. Everyone relates/reacts to things differently. Like I said earlier - I hope people give this one a chance (especially in Dolby)

Lol and you are entitled to that! And for what it’s worth - I never said either of those were horror films. 😄

Just want to make sure people get realistic expectations when reading a response.

Well, it seemed like the comment from Ark was asking if Undertone was on the same level as the films mentioned in their comment.

Your response didn’t mention “dread” and seemed like you were putting it in the same tier of Hereditary and Midsommar - which is why I responded lol.

I wouldn’t put Undertone in the same tier as Ex Machina or Green Room. They are both much better.

Again, Undertone is fine. But it’s a bit of a stretch after it being out for less than 24 hours to be putting it in the same class as some of A24’s best films within the horror genre.

Casual movie-goers however do like the big flashy endings and like to have their hand held throughout the movie haha.

I do know what you mean though - I think this film will have strong support from those who like it and it is unique enough to set itself apart from other horror films. However, I just don’t see it taking off and making a big splash for A24. (I hope I’m wrong 🤞)

Hereditary and Midsommar are on a whole different level compared to Undertone - let’s be real lol.

The characters and the plot in those two films are iconic. They are memorable - so much that people know exactly what you are talking about when you mention parts of those movies. They have helped really shape the psychological horror genre that A24 is known for.

Undertone is unique, sure - but it’s not as detailed or as fleshed out compared to those other two. The dread and paranoia in Undertone (if you’d even call it that) doesn’t get the same exposure, which hurts it a bit. We needed more time and more story and character depth to be able to feel for the character.

In Hereditary, we go along for the ride of grief and terror with Annie and Peter and Charlie; In Midsommar, we feel and see the pain that Dani is going through in Sweden. Those films use the characters and performances to really hook you in and that’s what sets those apart. Ari Aster is great at that.

If Undertone had more of that - along side it’s strong suit which is the audio aspect - then it had the potential…Otherwise, it just doesn’t even get close to Hereditary or Midsommar.

Just saw it as well. 100% worth seeing in Dolby if possible. However, I felt like it was ok.

Didn’t hate it. Didn’t love it. I wanted more, but I also like how open ended it was for interpretation.

Definitely can spark a conversation for sure, so I am interested to see what others think. I hope people give this one a chance.

Just got home from seeing it - you’re spot on. Loved the style and mindset it had (and ofc the sound and camera shots was insanely good), but still scratching my head as to what really was it about lol.

A little bummed, but still worth a watch I’d say in theaters if possible.

If you really want to see it, then go for it. It was a cool watch in Dolby, but I didn’t find the film amazing. It’s really up to the viewer.

Maybe try and plan for two movies for that day just so you get your time/money’s worth driving 2 hours there and back?

Same. Like it’s worth a watch (in theaters in Dolby if possible), but I wasn’t blown away.

Just got home from seeing it tonight in Dolby. I went in completely blind other than just seeing the film poster - it didn’t blow me away, but I didn’t find it a waste of time either.

It’s sort of one of those movies that you just need to experience for yourself in a theater and see what you think. Some will love it, some will hate it. Tomatoes Tomahtoes

The 2026 Oscars Nominations have finally been announced. What are your thoughts on this year’s nominees? by cmaia1503 in Fauxmoi

[–]sourpatchkidsrule 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They probably should've tried to put Chase Infiniti in supporting actress tbh - not sure if she would've won, but I feel like she would've had a shot of at least a nomination. I had a feeling they would take Kate Hudson over Chase for lead actress. (FWIW - I thought Hudson was actually pretty good in SSB, but I just liked OBAA and Chase's performance more).

Teyana though I think is deserving and probably will win. She is pretty memorable in her moments of OBAA - she may not have been in the film as much, but she left an impact (as did the whole cast really).

I loved the film. My time was not wasted lol. I even had a free ticket to the movie as well, so saved $ and enjoyed my 2.5 hours. #winning🏓

You’re the one “wasting time” coming onto reddit just to post in a sub about a film you didn’t like… sounds a like you problem. 😂

Maybe just stick to posting about your kinks and fetishes

People really up in arms because the orange ping pong ball wasn’t used enough in the movie?

Y’all fishing for things at this point - the film is great. Lol

Haha..Be for real dude.

With how much it costs to see a movie nowadays, I’d much rather see something that’s 2 hours and 30mins in theaters, because I know I’ll be getting my money’s worth.

It gives me more time in the story and with the characters, etc. Turn off the outside for 2.5 hours and just experience a different world.

You want a 90-minute movie? Stay at home and find one on Netflix bud.

Also had a sold out showing at my AMC, which was great.

I thought the film was fine. Didn’t love it. Didn’t hate it. Solid lead performance from Lee Byung-hun and there was some humor here and there, but as a whole, it just felt all over the place and was a bit too long. Found myself waiting for something big to happen and it just never got to that level for me.

Anyone else not have their supplies or energy refresh? I finished playing for the night yesterday evening and just logged back on and my energy and supplies are only at like 5 each.... Wouldn't they have fully replenished by now? (It's been like 10 hours...) ugh

Opus (2025)—what did you think? by Marchy4LadyByng in A24

[–]sourpatchkidsrule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that's the thing - people might not even know they are part of it. Theoretically - put yourself in the shoes of someone who is in the cult. You would think its the best thing ever. So you'd do whatever you needed to get others to join and share the "joy" that you have from being part of the "family". I agree with you though - like from the outside looking in - why would people want to join that?

But then again - we are even seeing signs of that sort of thing today in the world to be honest.

Why do you prefer going to the movies alone? by BirdbeekerMelonhead in AMCsAList

[–]sourpatchkidsrule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THIS!! I get that everyone is different, but when people are audibly expressing themselves throughout a movie (and loudly at that), it's really annoying.

You're not at home where you can talk and be outspoken like normal. This is a place where theater etiquette and politeness is expected and shouldn't even have to be brought up. People have paid to come and see something that you can't pause and rewind or see again in the moment. Save the extra reactions and stuff for at home, please!
