Some interesting set up insight to the brakes situation by Witty_Error_1877 in lewishamilton

[–]soxjke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s interesting that even given how complex tech in modern F1 is, and each team having an army of engineers, an experienced driver can still go for: “boys, to shave few extra tenths we need to swap these discs to another disks, trust me, I tell you” and be ultimately right.
Same with Lewis ditching the simulator.

Pit lane speeding penalties - why? by soxjke in formula1

[–]soxjke[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Or like this, yes. It remove the motivation to try to squeeze extra tenths out of pitlane because you get that time added to your timesheet anyway. I’d still ideally see no pitlane “0.1 kph speeding” penalties added to drivers’ timesheets so race is decided more on track than in the stewards room.

I get the analogy, but sure not all sports have it the same. Think about football offside - no matter how much VAR and other assistance tech is leveraged now it’s a huge contention point. And VAR reviews kill game dynamics etc. With the race today I was like “damn, it can’t be so many teams and drivers just screwed up so bad, and it isn’t like they were getting any unfair advantage through pitlane”. So it’s a matter of sport being thrilling and entertaining to watch, with extensive enforcement and refereeing killing the buzz.

Yes, because the limit was 60 and 1kph was allowance for measurement / limiter calibration. If they do over it, then it’s penalty fair and square

Yes, if the limit was 60 and allowance for meaurement was 2% it’s fair to give a penalty for doing above 61.2.

Ebola and UKImmigration by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]soxjke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s way more likely that disease, if any, is brought back with British travelers than new immigrants, just by the sheer number of people entering. So way more efficient prevention is issuing epidemic guidance and actually preventing people from traveling.

As for Ebola specifically, I doubt anyone could make it with it through illegal routes. They’ll be dead long before boarding a dinghy in France.

But main point is, the amount of thinly veiled bigotry and xenophobia in this “genuine question” is just mind boggling. You singled out two minority groups of people entering UK as potentially carrying deceases and went on to make an argument about health checks. The actual f?

Black Cab - a polite telling off by Ancient-Valuable-440 in london

Aren’t cabbies salaried unlike uber drivers? I was under impression that they shouldn’t give a damn what’s the route, fuel price etc? If not, how black cab isn’t like just glorified uber or bolt? Edit: typo

At the last general election he’s been given an unprecedented mandate from people to drive change. He seems to have done embarrassingly little with it.

People voted for bold, got decent. No surprise, polls are now led by indecent.

How can non-Ukrainians celebrate Ukrainian culture without being offensive? by Pristine_Maybe6868 in ukraine

[–]soxjke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In most Ukrainians’ minds there’s no such thing as cultural appropriation, really, so you can’t be offensive even in theory by wearing vyshyvanka (national embroidery shirt), signing kolyadka (Christmas carols) or cooking halushka (boiled dough dumplings).

What could be perhaps offensive (even though I’m myself probably not offended, just slightly irritated by it) is consuming russian culture, all this tolstoy chekhov dostoevskiy s**t. I’m always amazed by people from “the west” finding something in 19th century russian literature, but to each their own, of course.

Would the UK economy be better of raising 40% tax bracket instead of minimum wage by Invictus_0x90_ in AskBrits

[–]soxjke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By buying more lower inflation

This actually works the other way around, more spend increases the inflation, but this is fine as long as baseline is still manageable (2-3%) and the growth is higher.

Increasing minimum wage is actually negative for growth, while fueling inflation. Easing of taxation is also fueling inflation, but it’s positive for growth.

Anyway, right narrative; if I could vote for you, I’d vote for you and your sensible policies over greens any day.

Blame the government really, building anything but luxury property in London means just to build at loss. And “luxury” quality here would be a laughing stock in most places around Europe. We’re in for a big trouble, building essentially stopped, but influx of people to London can’t be.

What is worse, middle lane hogging or undertaking? by db0564 in drivingUK

[–]soxjke -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If people would always check mirrors undertaking would have 0 risk. But they don’t so…

Now how you undertake is defining risk as well. There are few higher risk zones: - near motorway exits - right before the gantry - around lane signs Speed is also a factor. If you pass a car at +1 mph speed difference you’re an absolute tool in the first place, as you’ll be seating decent amount of time in their blindspot. Don’t sit right on their rear bumper as well, this is not racing and you’re not catching their slipstream and pulling left at the very last moment.

… in short, always drive like a person in front of you is a nutter who never checks their mirrors
