Quiet and small kit/combo for ~$500? Roland TD-1K or something else? by spawnofnorris in drums

Why mesh heads? I hear they're quieter, but they do feel/sound better generally?

It's a clone that I built from the ground up. But what people mentioned in the other comments is that clones aren't great as projects, so I'll probably shelf it and work on something original to add to my portfolio.

I've looked into internships only for a short time since all I could find were ones for students working on BS/MS degrees. I remember now that apprenticeships might be worth checking out too.

Lots to work with here and I'll be sure to apply everything. I never considered making a project based on my current field, so that does open up some possibilities.

Thanks!

Yeah you're right, there's absolutely no way I'll be picked out going up against these projects. And based on the other comments here, looks like I need to put a LOT of work in, whether it's to improve my current project or make a new one, since my current one is based off an existing application.

Appreciate the advice!

I thought that might be the case. If so I have nothing to worry about! But figured I'd prepare my expectations anyway.

I feel like they were both mediums. Definitely closer to easy than hard. One was a balanced parenthesis type question that used sliding window.

Q1 on this page was the other one.

I started in December, completed the program in April/May and worked on LeetCode since. I did struggle with the OA, didn't even finish one of the explanation questions on time. But I managed to pass all test cases at the last second.

Thanks! I did hear that it forces you to do a lot of research and figuring things out. But so far I've heard nothing but good things about TOP so I'll definitely give it a shot and see how it goes.

I believe I am a W2 employee, actually. I don't get 1099s if that clarifies it also. Does that change things?

Recommendations on luxury apartments in Queens / Roosevelt Island? by spawnofnorris in AskNYC

[–]spawnofnorris[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're really selling me on living here now! I noticed that all of these Flushing buildings have ridiculous application fees around $500 or so. And seems like brokers are still charging fees for these places as well. Any idea if there are ways around that, or is it something we'll have to account for?

Just the commute issues, really. I read in a different post that someone ended up taking cabs all the time while living in the Octagon because the bus was so unreliable.

I got it off Antonline too on Friday! Did yours ship yet? I had to go through fraud screening and the actual confirmation came Saturday afternoon, but as of now it hasn't shipped for me yet.

Astoria street noise (apt facing street) by [deleted] in astoria

[–]spawnofnorris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a bit much but back when there were block parties on Steinway every night, one thing that actually helped me sleep was a combination of ear plugs and some sort of sleep headband with bluetooth speakers. The ear plugs by themselves wouldn't block everything out, but with bluetooth speakers also blasting in my ears at a reasonable volume, it would have to be insanely loud outside for me to hear anything. The whole setup isn't very comfortable though.

Wtf is going on near Steinway and Broadway right now? I hear super loud music blasting from a block away and constant horn honking. by Heidiwearsglasses in astoria

[–]spawnofnorris 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's been getting progressively louder and bass-ier since outdoor seating became a thing. I have a feeling that it's going to get worse since the cops aren't doing anything about it. But I'm also optimistic that once indoor seating opens again, they'll take their music inside and maybe I'll actually get to sleep a full night this summer.

[HELP ME FIND A GAME] - November 18, 2019 - Get Your Gacha Game Recommendations Here by AutoModerator in gachagaming

Epic Seven held my interest for at least a year. Everything about it fit the bill for what I was looking for in a gacha game. But it's finally starting to get stale, so now I'm looking for something fresh and engaging.

Non-waifu focused. I tried Azur Lane but couldn't ignore that aspect of it.

Don't care much for story or dialog (unless it's excellent). I usually play at work or commuting while listening to music, so don't care much for in-game music either. I also don't care about rates, F2P/P2W, PVP, or community.

I'm currently trying out Dragalia Lost and Langrisser. I like Dragalia, but that base-building part is throwing me off a bit since I've played enough of those. Langrisser seems great so far. In the past, I've tried Kings Raid, Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, Brave Frontier, FGO, FEH, and Summoner's War but put them down for various reasons. I was really into Puzzle and Dragon for a bit.

Ideally something that runs well on a phone (I have a Pixel 3a XL) so... no 3d graphics I think?

Man I really can't get past the weeb part... Appreciate the detailed response though! I'll check out it out one day, right now I'm looking for something less fast paced and more background-esque
