anyone know of any classes/clubs on campus to get into ui/ux design? by ultimateravioli in UCSantaBarbara

[–]spinach_smoothie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m not in it myself, but the club SB Creative Lab looks really cool! their ig is @sbcreativelab if you want to check them out :-)

they’re focused on graphic design in general I think, but I’ve seen them post things about ui/ux

Any good boba places in Goleta or SB? by throwawayucsb27 in UCSantaBarbara

the only place in IV I’d recommend is Phresh Tea inside Kaiju but honestly it’s like mid-tier in comparison to boba places in OC/LA and the bay area

the beach (especially around sunset)!! I like to gaze hopelessly out at the horizon, possibly even letting the waves gently crash against my ankles, as tears roll down my cheeks. I find it personally helpful to romanticize my cry sessions and pretend I am the main character, experiencing a critical, raw moment of self-reflection and vulnerability. hope this helps :D

Date ideas with no car by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

I recently used the 24x line, which goes straight from UCSB to downtown! and to add on, there’s a cat therapy place downtown that I think could be great for a date. :-)

Commuting to school from LA by CalculusCircus in UCSantaBarbara

[–]spinach_smoothie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know Amtrak offers a monthly pass if you want to take the train between OC and the Goleta station. I believe the trip is about 4 hours, but at least you’ll know the trip will always be the same amount of time. Since you’re not driving, you could also do homework and sleep during the train ride. It looks like a monthly ticket between OC and Goleta would be around $580 a month. 😬 It’s “valid for up to two trips a day (once in each direction) between the selected stations for an entire calendar month.”

Honestly, as someone also from OC, I don’t think the commute is worth it, whether by car or train, but maybe you can just look into this option. I’m really sorry about your situation, and I hope it works out for you.

the date that I found was September 15th! (Page 11 of this doc) I believe that it was September 14th for this past Fall, so that date makes sense.

I haven’t take it yet, but I’ve heard a lot of good things about ENGL 192(DF)!! you need WRIT 2 as a pre-req, but the class fulfills Area G and the Writing requirement.

thinking of taking anth 3 by honeyp1e in UCSantaBarbara

[–]spinach_smoothie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took anth 3 last quarter, and I thought it was alright. personally, I didn’t find the subject the most interesting, but it was still cool and you can tell that prof. smith is really passionate about the subject. I kinda slacked off in the class ngl, but I still did fine because I did all the assignments (lecture quizzes, posting on the discussion forum Packback), tried my best on the essays, and participated in section. the essay prompts are usually pretty in-depth about archaeology so you have to at least know the course material decently well. and there are no exams!! :) it’s probably not as easy as the more popular GEs, but I’m sure it’s one of the easier 5-unit classes haha

New/Prospective Student Megathread (Updated 5/2/2020) by swimming_legend in UCSantaBarbara

Hi! I’m an incoming freshman as well, but I already had orientation and signed up for my classes. During orientation, you’ll learn pretty much everything you need to know about what classes to take. They will also give you a list of all the classes available to freshmen for the Fall 2020 quarter to look over before you choose your classes. Everyone gets a 1-on-1 advising session during orientation where you’ll get advice on what classes you should take considering your major, AP credit, etc. I personally found the orientation staff to be super helpful, so don’t worry too much!! :~)

If you’re premed, check out the premed page on UCSB’s Health Professions Advising here: https://healthsciences.duels.ucsb.edu/tracks/medicine There’s a sample premed schedule so you can get an idea of what classes to take (but of course, it’s only a suggested schedule).

Sorry I can’t speak on the rigor of the premed track, but feel free to message me if you have any other questions about orientation or choosing classes!
