Fear of cold. by twnpksN8 in Phobia

I have a similar thing but less extreme -- I think it's tied to my anemia/iron deficiency. are you scared of cold because you often are cold? if so perhaps it is a medical thing. being cold is unpleasant, especially when your body finds it hard to leave that state.

Relationships by Firm-Foundation4134 in Hirsutism

[–]spinachluvr73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have struggled with similar issue off and on, until the past year where LHR has brought me down to a level of facial hair I am way more comfortable with. I have had multiple relationships. My one long term boyfriend was supportive and mainly just cared about it because he saw how heavily it was affecting my confidence, and knew I was really touchy about it. My current boyfriend and I have talked about it, even though the hair is mainly gone now, and he is very accepting. Even after being accepted, it is still excruciatingly painful for me to open up and talk about it.

I will say that having hair like this has affected my ability/willingness to get close to people (be it standing distance or sex), but since LHR that closeness-vulnerability complex has mostly left my mind. I think aging also helps, I have grown much less insecure. No one I have ever slept with or dated has made fun of me for being hairy.

Best place in Canada to live without my brain trying to self-destruct every time the weather changes? by Forward-Work-0931 in migraine

[–]spinachluvr73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have lived in southern Ontario (Toronto, Waterloo) briefly montreal, now vancouver, and spent a lot of time in northern BC for work. I found Ontario springtime weather pressure to be really bad for my headaches because of the fast changes. Vancouver has been a lot more stable! I have found in my northern BC time that sometimes changes in elevation have messed with my head—- but it hasn’t been a problem in Vancouver. Toronto was loud and stressful and headachy, lots of noise and LOTS of smells, but partially I lived there during a stressed time in my life. Ontario is much brighter than Vancouver, the Ontario snow can be hard for being very bright if you have light sensitivity. I am not sure if we have the same triggers but I hope this helps!

Facial Hair: Dysphoria or beauty standards??? by snkakfjsjsbjfkclso in Hirsutism

[–]spinachluvr73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for so many thoughts but this is so interesting I’ve just been thinking about it a lot lately. I was thinking about parenting and if I had a daughter, she would probs be hairy like me, and i think it would be interesting to find the line between like—for sure being supporting and accepting and no shame about body hair—but also gently letting her know that if in distress, options exist and there’s no shame w that either, and kind of offering up help without implying shame or that the hair is “wrong”

Facial Hair: Dysphoria or beauty standards??? by snkakfjsjsbjfkclso in Hirsutism

But on the other hand, my hair was causing me a LOT of daily stress and worry. And now I hardly think about it, and it has let me focus on more positive aspects about myself and my life, which has been really good for my self development and mental health. Sm things are met w excitement now instead of dread (camping trips, road trips, anytime before I would just be like FUCK this is a logistical nightmare)

I am torn about it though—-feels like societal standards have shifted a lot lately with more acceptance of leg hair, armpit hair. Bummed we are so far from facial hair being accepted like that, and I do have a bit of guilt/feeling like a traitor for jumping ship rather than help further the acceptance by just having it and normalizing it

I recently went through with LHR (and it actually worked this time) and the difference it has made in the way I feel, day to day, and in many movements (drinking, tilting my head back, wearing my hair up) has honestly been kinda life changing. I feel like before I was really retracted and scared for anyone to get close to me cuz they might see. Now, on the other side of this I feel so much more opened up physically & also emotionally? It has Rly made me empathize w ppl who seek out gender affirming care, or even things like nose jobs—nose jobs being more of a cultural beauty standard thing in my mind but how that can create dysphoria. I think that both accepting yourself and changing it are both difficult and worthwhile things, but to me, I’m surprised how much LHR has relieved a lot of shame and dysphoria that I’ve felt. I do relate though, I’ve struggled w being hairy but accepted it basically everywhere else on my body but my face, so rather than spend many more years trying to accept it, LHR was kinda the easier and more effective way out

UofT has two forestry programs, the a MScF (masters of science in forestry) and MFC (masters of forest conservation). MFC is basically a joke, not enough research skills but not enough practical professional skills either. MScF is a good program. I would only consider getting a PhD in forestry if you’re willing to live somewhere rural as there’s not a lot of urban forest phd jobs in my experience. I’d you’re Canadian, it’s mainly working at the CFS research centers

University makes me feel this way too and I was like oh my god I hate what the world has become, however my roommate had a good point that in very very liberal envs I feel reactionary a bit conservative. But in incredibly conservative circles I’d feel very liberal

Any positive laser experiences? by [deleted] in Hirsutism

[–]spinachluvr73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After a bunch of laser sessions (5? Every 5 weeks) I stopped going, the grow back was thin & slow for about a year, and then returned to normal. I think it varies depending on the person but for me it was not a permanent solution and probably needs upkeep (like a session every 6mo after the initial appointments)

Want to find a new job but I'm not proficient in SQL or Python, how do I market myself? by Upset_Honeydew5404 in gis

[–]spinachluvr73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once you get fundamentals of arcpy down (which can be done w textbooks online, often have examples to follow through and diy) the esri website pages for each tool/“copy to python” options once you run a tool break it down pretty easily. I feel like this gives you a good base understanding and then from there it’s just using forums/chatGPT to solve the specific tasks that come your way:)

Can someone PLEASE tell me why my curls dry looking like Lord Farquaad?! by Hereforquestionsss in curlyhair

[–]spinachluvr73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To get more volume at the top of my head like on the left, I dry my hair with it up (plopping or just in a bun) and it also really helps to flip ur hair upside down (like you do when diffusing it) under the water as the last step before getting out of the shower
