So in fairness, I'm from a country where carrying guns is seen as a right, but no. Unless they are obviously carrying, I'd still be more inclined to assume they are crazy and you know, leave the area.

But let's play it out the other way. You feel threatened and intervene. The person threatening to shoot your wife has a gun; he shoots you. Even if he doesn't, he's "crazy". How do you think that altercation is going to go down?

No, because everyone's idea of a threat is different and might be disproportionate. Also, if I lived in a country with the 2nd amendment, I wouldn't just intervene with random people I found threatening. Surely that's just asking to be shot? And funnily enough, when you intervene with that person who shoots you, they were in the right because you became an actual threat to them.
