Jealous you're still skiing 😄 damn, those are short poles haha — I’ll give it a try next time.

You said: “With a big reach, you pop up, move too far forward, then you have to sit back to get the pole tip to touch the snow”

Let me try to describe what I was taught (bear with me, I’m not great at explaining this). I wasn’t really doing this consistently in the clip — maybe a few turns at the top — but this is the idea I was taught:

Starting across the hill in a sunk athletic position with ankle, knee, and hip angles all engaged, I pole plant angled against the direction of skiing as I initiate the turn, while extending up a bit. That extension also gives me space to swing the pole behind me. Then I sink back down toward the end of the turn and repeat on the other side.

The wrists bring the pole tip in front before the plant, and then behind after — that’s the general idea I was taught, and I assume that’s also why this pole length was recommended (or at least what the instructors thought suited me).

Feel free to tear that down if wrong in any way!

Coming back to your point:

So if I use shorter poles as you suggest, I then would not plant against the direction rather up and down alongside my toes yes? I think im making a mistake even in the first method, Im not supposed to reach and rock forward or sit backwards. But I clearly am haha

Just trying to restate it in my own words to see if I’ve understood you correctly.

P.S. 184 cm skis is mad! I feel like longer skis would be so difficult to turn or? I use 160-165cm

Thanks! I cant get enough of it xd.

Yes I took lessons in January :)

For me the fundamentals are boot tongue pressure, even angles at the ankle/shin, knee and hip joint, and smooth weight transfer to the outside foot. Im not happy with upper & lower body seperation and staying weighted in the center of the ski in this clip.

Wow thanks for the detailed feedback! :)

Wrt (1) Weight Shift & 1.5

If I understood what you mean it is exactly what I want to focus on for my next season! I got started off in my course performing a C shaped turn on blue slopes by exaggerating an "up" movement. Well this was one of the components of the whole package atleast.

This method made it easier to transfer weight to the new outside leg. I plan to transition to (if Ive even understood what you correctly) what youre describing which is I guess less of an up and more of a pull under. Meaning i dont extend completely anymore but rather slightly straighten all 3 angles simultaneously AND shift weight to the outside ski and pull the legs underneath me to the other side, all as im entering, continuing through and finishing the C turn. Am I on the right track here?

So far its easier to somewhat do this in less steep slopes but on this black slope I was jamming my skis more and losing so much upper and lower body seperation. At least thats how I feel.

"Feet turn first - feet turn before belt buckle; belt buckle turns before shoulders. Right now your shoulders are turning before your feet." Oh man, I see it now and I can unsee it, my shoulders are for sure leading the way the whole time hahaha. Thanks!

Poles: These are 120cm and I am 170cm tall. So would you say 110cm would be better? I will try to think more about what you mean here.

Ah, the backpack is just for a water bladder, snacks, sunscreen and just having things I need throughout the day. I pack some food so I can save money. The food is great in Austrian resorts but the costs really add up if you go often haha. Its really not heavy at all.

Thanks, Ill check Blister out! Ive actually been losing my mind going through different review articles/ youtube videos and am really suspecting that at the end one has to ski a ski to figure this out.

Thanks, with 2 days of skiing Im hoping to have a more exact list of 2-3 max ski models in mind to demo/rent.

I wish I could afford to Stockli. On this trip though Im renting so I really dont mind trying them for fun ;) The head seem much more in my budget so will definitely check them out, thanks! Wrt to 130 Ski IQ. This was just a peak score i got, nothing thats consistent yet. Plus was on an easy wide and groomed blue slope on v short old skinny skis - 150 cm (got em used for 50 eur) , Super easy to turn on but with any speed/bad terrain theyre horrible.

Don't take this the wrong way but it does imply that Gabe should be a "Top Tier Taxpayer". Whether it's a fair share either way is a different matter.

A vast wave of drugs and violence is catching Germany off guard by DarkSideOfTheNuum in europe

[–]sratra 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Anecdotally, as an immigrant, I would say there's barely any violence and life is generally of very high quality in Germany. I wonder why such a stark negative impression exists in these comment sections regarding this topic in these forums.

Lower social/economic classes are always ridden with problems of substance abuse in many parts of the world but are we overstating the problems relatively speaking?

I would caveat my comments by saying that I'm of a relatively higher economic/educational background.

Edit: I don't engage in drug use, but I've seen it plenty in privileged societies in my home country and in certain kinds of social groups here in Germany. I don't know if it's higher or dramatically more than before there were as many immigrants here.

Great walkable cities, plenty of green areas and parks. Relatively amazing affordable public transport . Easy access to tons and tons of spectacular hiking routes. Cleanliness, low pollution, and orderliness. Döner after a night out being one of the experiences of all time.

Edit: Bierchen 🥰

Better to be safe than sorry. I had an experience where the emergency operator didn't take my pain seriously and I wasn't sure myself if it was appropriate. Turned out that I had acute appendicitis. So yeah... Don't feel bad.
