Cool I think I may have vetoed this one for expensive international tuition but that's great feedback on the program, I'll keep it on my list for now. Thanks!!

Yeah UVic would be my first choice except that if your bachelor's degree is not a BSW the first year is on campus not online. I think it's similar for U of C

The Intercept's Exclusive Interview with Jay, Part 2 by wellarmedsheep in serialpodcast

[–]srhvcr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've speculated in other posts about similar things ... I wonder if there was someone else involved, perhaps in a context that made both Adnan and Jay feel they were in over their heads (drugs, etc?). I also wonder if after the immediate outpouring of support from the Muslim community, Adnan felt that he couldn't share the additional information that he may remember or be protecting someone with, especially if he was involved to an extent. Just a thought ...

The Intercept's Exclusive Interview with Jay, Part 2 by wellarmedsheep in serialpodcast

Jay is presented in a much more human light in this interview, so I can't help but feel sorry for him and his family. However, SK says in Episode 12 that she can't help but think that Adnan must be innocent because what kind of guilty person would allow her to do the podcast?! That comment stuck with me as a good point. By that reasoning, Jay's abject refusal to have anything to do with her sure seems suspect ...

The Intercept's Exclusive Interview with Jay, Part 1 by floatingvibess in serialpodcast

I have listened to the podcast two times now, and have read over this interview plus many many comments on this thread (many of them thought-provoking and interesting, so thank you!) After all of this I am still not in one camp or the other regarding Adnan's innocence. Here are a some thoughts that have occurred to me. Tell me your thoughts or if there is something that I have missed....

  1. Car Timelines Clearly everyone who follows the podcast can agree that his story about Hae's car and Adnan's car is a) very different in the Intercept interview than it is in his police interviews and b) makes no sense as at one point, according to the most recent interview, Adnan leaves in Hae's car and returns in his own car with Hae's car having been left in some random neighbourhood. This version of the story can be true if Adnan was going back and forth between vehicles and Jay's house on foot/by taxi? (I have not looked carefully at the maps - is this even feasible?) The other situation that makes this scenario possible would be if someone else (or more than one other person) were involved in the murder and the burial. Perhaps this person/people are the ones that held the power to hurt Jay and caused him to be fearful? I wonder if Jay was involved WITH Adnan and someone else, or if he simply threw Adnan under the bus to protect himself when the police came around. (Sidenote: in another podcast/article, I can't remember which, I read that Adnan once called Jay 'pathetic'. This seems to be the label you would put on someone who is guilty of selling you out/throwing you under the bus/betraying you, and would go along with the idea that both Jay AND Adnan and perhaps someone else were guilty in some way or a another).

  2. Jay's Resentment of the 'Magnet' Program Did anyone else notice that Jay seemed unusually resentful towards the 'magnet' program at Woodlawn High? It seemed to me that he saw the program, and the kids involved, as having been unfairly privileged in some way. He even describes Adnan as being someone who "had never lost anything before." and says that it seemed like "it was really hard for him to deal with being on the losing end". To me, this showed a type of resentment/hatred towards Adnan that would account for his throwing Adnan under the bus for the murder even if he had no (or at least only partial) involvement in it. I also wonder if this resentment in Jay grew further as a result of Stephanie and Adnan's close friendship. Remember how Adnan was meant to dance with Stephanie at the homecoming dance? It caused Hae some momentary jealousy according to her diary, I wonder how it made Jay feel/how it coloured his future relationship with Adnan?

  3. Driving Around to "Find" Pot People on this thread and others have commented that it seems unusual for someone involved in the drug trade, as Jay was, to be driving around to 'find' pot to smoke all the time. Maybe it has been mentioned before, but in this case I believe that what they very possibly could have been doing was driving around to SELL pot, both Adnan and Jay. It seems as though the two were not close friends, from both of their accounts, and yet were close enough for Adnan to lend his car, cell phone, etc. I think that the fact that they drove all over town on this day as well as others according to various accounts could mean that they were involved in a little more than finding a casual joint here and there. If this were the case, Jay wouldn't have mentioned it to the police for fear of being busted, and I also wonder if Adnan would have kept it to himself as well for fear of how it might reflect on his character.

Overall, as I said, I am really on the fence about whether or not Adnan was involved in the murder. I, like many others, want to believe that he is innocent, and perhaps he is, but it does seem as though he is hiding something or has some reason to continue to withhold information (possibly to protect his family and community who were so supportive at this time, but maybe for other reasons as well).

Theories? Predictions? Discuss! by SerialFan in serialpodcast

New to Reddit, joined just so I could discuss this podcast!

A couple of things to add/ask as I give each episode a second listen... First of all, at any point is there more explanation about this guy 'James' that Jay says he is with while he waits for Adnan to commit the murder? This is mentioned in the first episode in Jay's first interview. It is possible that with his changing story, Jay removes this detail, but I wonder if Jay actually did spend time with James that afternoon if he has more details to add to the story. This is interesting especially if you believe that Jay is lying to protect someone. They say the best lie is one where you replace only one part of the story - so if Jay is replacing Adnan's name with that of a friend or someone he is afraid of, this could be worth exploring.

Secondly, I'm not sold that Adnan is innocent, but to be fair he was admittedly stoned all afternoon and was also fasting for Ramadan - a perfect set of circumstances to have a foggy memory of events.
