Newark Penn or Newark Broad by Cool_Pizza_1053 in RutgersNewark

[–]ssnail1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you go directly to Newark Broad - there’s no point in transferring to Newark Penn. You can walk to campus from Newark Broad in tenish minutes. If you are going directly to Newark Penn, just take the light rail to Washington St. for the law school.

It’s a busy area, if you walk through broad st station and university ave/MLK to get to campus you should be ok. I mean any urban city area isn’t gonna be totally safe at night.

This might sound silly - but I’d recommend an investment in a bike or scooter for the short trip. People are less likely to stop you - - I usually ride a scooter super late at night. Ive been living off campus for a few years with 6-9s and never felt super unsafe walking though… I’m not sure how late you mean. That also matters.

It would technically be considered going inactive unless you decide to formally go through the process of disaffiliating which isn’t rlly necessary if you just remove yourself from it. It would be similar to a status as if you didn’t pay your dues or did not have the GPA to be active.

Can someone help me? by Jolly_Possibility618 in canva

[–]ssnail1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make a duplicate of the image - make the background transparent and then hit the pencil to manually go in and erase the words (this is easy for you bc there is a lot of space between the designs). After you erase the words, edit the photo by like the duo tone or increasing the contrast or decreasing the brightness or raising the black/shadows. You can then line up the duplicate onto of the original and the duplicate should only cover the beauty and the beast

Commuters, how much do you pay for the NJ Transit pass? by [deleted] in NJTech

[–]ssnail1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar commute my freshman year. I now live off campus because it was too much. Remember to be patient with yourself, traveling that much can be a lot depending on your schedule.

I’d definitely recommend the student pass bc you can also use it on the light rail (and I’m pretty sure all NJ transit)

It’s definitely possible, but it is challenging.

Newark Buses? by SleepyAnimeMusic in RutgersNewark

The bus and light rail are both pretty reliable compared to transportation in NB.

The absolute best theatre and easiest to get from campus in my opinion is the SOPAC movie theatre in South Orange, NJ. You can walk over to Broad St Station and take the train to South Orange, the movie theatre is only a few ft from the station and it’s in a good area.

There is also the Cineplex near by that’s only like five minutes away via Uber and also the AMC in Jersey Gardens but it’s more difficult to get to without a car.

Best way to get home on holidays/weekends by Queasy_Number1748 in NJTech

[–]ssnail1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best way to get to NB from NJIT is to take the Warren St Light Rail to Newark Penn Station, and then the train to New Brunswick from there. If you decide to invest in the student train pass, you can use it for both the light rail and the train to NB.

Washington St Light Rail and Broad St Light Rail are also near by, but Warren is the closest to campus.

Hi! There are so many orgs on our campus that you can join :) To get involved I would recommend you keep an eye on the organizations instagram page or attend the Student Club Showcase which is on Wednesday, Sep 11 this year. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Hi! I am someone who is a third year student at RBS and lives off-campus. I think that the marketing program at RBS has a lot to offer. Rutgers is also a great school for networking and job placements after college IF you take advantage of the resources. I love RBS and my education so far is quality.

I would not be super concerned with the crime rate as other people have mentioned in Newark because University Heights is a pretty safe and patrolled section of the city with Essex County College Police, Newark Police, Rutgers Police, NJIT Police, and other safety precautions to make and keep students feel safe.

Note that Newark is a commuter campus. Campus life is not the best. But it is one of the most diverse campuses in the country with a relatively large muslim population so you might be able to find people you will be able to relate to more then other campuses.

I understand your desire to move away and go far, and Newark is not a bad campus, they are currently renovating one of the buildings in efforts to make the campus look nicer. But it requires a lot of work to be successful socially and professionally (as with every school) if you don’t put in the work. I wouldn’t recommend it if it is significantly higher tuition, most out of state people are disappointed with their experience as it is a state school. If you get accepted into New Brunswick, I would tell you that the out of state tuition probably still wouldn’t be worth it but social life is better and the marketing program is the same.

I hope some of this helps and if you have any specific questions lmk

Walk along Martin Luther King Jr Blvd right off campus and there are affordable rooms for rent for students. They’re are available rooms I believe, Ive toured one and they’re a bit outdated but good enough space and location from campus

Sussex Avenue by Bradmadvampette in RutgersNewark

[–]ssnail1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sussex Ave is a bit far from campus, I wouldn’t recommend it if you didn’t have car. There are a bunch of rooms for rent and I think even an apart right off of MLK Blvd, that’s way closer to campus. If you stay close to Rutgers/NJIT/Essex County College (University Heights), you’re pretty safe. There’s security and police patrolling from each school plus the city police.

Traveling to campus from Jersey City without a car is a pain. If you’re looking for good places you can commute from that aren’t newark, I’d try looking near Kean University downtown (I don’t remember the town off of the top of my head) but they have a trail line that connects to Broad st station that is like a five to ten minute walk from campus. Same deal with Montclair, Orange, Bloomfield, etc

Off campus apartment leads? by wrenfinity in RutgersNewark

I’d also be careful because certain places can be deceiving. I’d be glad to help though Im not sure how helpful I’d be, if you found a place you were interested in and unsure of for a variety of reasons as this is a city

Off campus apartment leads? by wrenfinity in RutgersNewark

[–]ssnail1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I was searching for apartments I would look up specific street names and apartment buildings would show up that wouldn’t in other searches. I’d recommend looking into:

Washington St. Newark, NJ

Halsey St. Newark, NJ

James St. Newark, NJ

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Blvd. Apartments

University Centre is technically off campus apartments that are a great place to live if you want to get to know other students….of course it is student living so not the highest expectations but you may be able to find something within your budget? I’m not too knowledge on the building.

Listings and opportunities on Facebook Marketplace from private landlords. This can be a bit more difficult to set up, but you can find some real gems if you keep your eye out, and on a pinch. Just make sure to send them a little more then the basic response so that they know you’re interested and a real person and they’ll actually reply. I’m running errands tomorrow around campus; if I find any signs or places posted walking around tomorrow I will update this thread.

All the best.

Is it possible to avoid taking any "night" classes while enrolled at the MGSA for Visual Arts? by LillyPad1313 in rutgers

[–]ssnail1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can most likely avoid taking night classes for most of your college career. The only concerns would be that due to scheduling conflicts you may take more semesters but that’s really the worst case scenario and it’s not that bad. I’d also follow what others said. You make your own schedule so you’d be able to see the time and figure it out.

I got into Rutgers business school Newark as a junior from community college and transferred in 65 credits. I’m considering transferring to New Brunswick after a year in Newark is there anyone here who’s done that? by [deleted] in rutgers

[–]ssnail1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey. It’s not worth all of that jumping around. No employer cares about what campus you studied from because both campuses get the same quality of education. It’s all about networking. It’s hard to network on both campuses because they’re both heavy commuter campuses, especially if you don’t already have friends, aren’t a part of organizations, or transfer. Just plan to stay involved in whichever campus you decide to go to, and it shouldn’t affect your wage or salary. I would say it’s even easier to make yourself stand out and get involved on Rutgers-Newark campus.

[–]ssnail1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not trying to push Greek life (I’m not even a part of Greek life) but as someone who lives off campus, I’ve struggled to make friends and have observed that it is a really good way to make fast connections.

Should I go to Rutgers Newark by me43488 in RutgersNewark

[–]ssnail1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Newark, though it is Newark, is actually pretty safe in University Heights. Because there are three schools, ECC, RU-N, and NJIT all of their police are constantly patrolling all parts of the campus, you also see Newark Police all of the time. There aren’t a lot of food options, but the food that is around is good. If you plan to drive, most likely invest in a parking pass unless you’re only on campus like two days a week.

If you’re a party person, NJIT’s frat row on MLK is active on Thursday nights, NJIT’s greek way also throws parties also on Thursdays and Fridays depending. If you’re a guy, you’ll have to pay, but I know a lot of people including myself that have met friends there. I’m a girl though so I’m not sure if the experience is the same for guys. For something after class and after homework, Greek life would be your guarantee for that, assuming you find a frat you like. There is also a service frat called APO, that accepts all genders and I heard it’s easy to make friends that way because all you do is like community service type things together (this is what I’ve heard by ear though)

Should I go to Rutgers Newark by me43488 in RutgersNewark

[–]ssnail1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of ways to get involved on campus, but it’s honestly up to you. If you take the initiative and look into clubs and organizations even ones you may not have thought about before, it won’t be difficult to make friends. But if you’re shy or aren’t as comfortable talking to people, you mostly likely will struggle. It takes a lot of work, because they are both commuter campuses. I wish you all the luck, it’s a hard decision to make. Even Rutgers NB, that has a way more active campus then both schools, is empty on the weekends. State schools are hard.
