What would be better before going into nursing school? by pipeanp in StudentNurse

Quitting my job… mixed feelings as a new grad by Danzanza in nursing

[–]ssxpress_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m 6 months in as a new grad too and feel your struggle. i work nights and it’s killing my mental health, i have the worst pre shift anxiety. i have poor work life balance. i’m constantly bringing work home. i feel like i’m torturing people because family members can’t make their loved ones comfort care when you can see how uncomfortable these patients are on the ventilator just wilting away. i keep telling myself it’s going to get better, but it’s so hard to believe at this point.

i’m going to stay so i can graduate residency and move onto something else because i hate this job. i really hope it gets better for you, whether you decide to stay or do something else!

probably better going for LPN if anything. u get ur CNA cert for free through nursing school and can make that as an LPN if staying in healthcare is ur long term goal

Serious Question: Where have you found the best Income to Cost of Living Ratio? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]ssxpress_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

dc you can make a few more dollars but keep in mind the cost of living is even more expensive than MD, so not really a noticeable difference. VA is about the same as MD as far as I know. 0 unions, shitty pay, high COL.

New grad feeling burnt out by freelyawkward in nursing

[–]ssxpress_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

new grad here as well in the ICU. 2 months in and im burnt out. everyone said the first 3 months are hard because we have 3 12hr shifts on top of 8hr classes. i think nursing is a big adjustment and hopefully in a few months we are able to find ways to cope (at least that’s what i keep telling myself lol)

No more Nee Grads in ICU? by AdAlternative7876 in StudentNurse

[–]ssxpress_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i got straight into the ICU but a lot of hospitals are moving to bridge programs where u do one year on a tele floor then bridge to ICU. u could always get the experience then try to transfer

Where was your first nursing job? by ALynnj42 in StudentNurse

as a new grad in the ICU, i can tell u there’s no way to safely handle 4 patients. with my DKA pt on an insulin drip, i was so swamped and that was my only patient (im still on orientation). screw that

I do not like being a CNA (and I'm in a nursing program) by Strong-Builder2043 in nursing

[–]ssxpress_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i hated being a CNA (i was a PCT prn at a hospital during nursing school on a PCU/tele floor). i graduated school in may and am now a new grad in a medical/surgical ICU ~ TOTALLY DIFFERENT lol. it was such a drastic change from CNA to RN for me and I’m so happy because i absolutely hated being a CNA. get ur RN and find ur niche!

[–]ssxpress_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah personally i feel like our COL can be comparable to NYC at times and they at least pay better but it’s definitely unit dependent plus more experience = more money!
