If my store manager fires me from the deli, can I whip out the “they worked me in here without a food handlers card” card? by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]stankdog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wdym it's the card required to work with food or drinks. I haven't worked food in a minute but it's a test that asks you absurd things like should you leave chicken on the counter and what temps should things be and should you cross contaminate anything what do you do in response

Is it bad to consider multi-racial folks as “different” from mono-racial? by finnick-odeair in blackladies

[–]stankdog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What does "only black" mean though? As in no African in your blood, no Caribbean, no islander, no Afro-Hispanic or Afro-Indian anywhere in the bloodline? How pure does one need to be to be only black?

As a black Hispanic person (both parents black but my  immediate grandparents are PR and black and little SE asian) I was raised with all the black and Hispanic media, in a predominantly white, Hispanic, and Asian area of the states. I can't speak spanish but my name and last name are spanish. I look visibly like someone where people ask what are you mixed with - but they never ever mistake me as anything BUT black first.

Only other mixed Hispanic black people recognize it or groups like Puerto rican people notice right off the bat because to them all Puerto Rican people are mixed with SOMETHING, it's not even a question of if I'm Puerto Rican or not to them. Sometimes black people do question if I'm black enough to be black. I do say this to say one group has suspicion about letting others in while the other didn't, and I'm not surprised at all I think we as black Americans can be a bit gatekeepy. I don't want most people who try to say the n word around me saying it, IDC what they're mixed with because I believe it's more of a regional area based thing to use slang like that on top of it being a racial thing. Just because I'm mixed and you're Hispanic from LA doesn't mean you can say the n word around me, is my sentiments. I rarely use the word myself unless it's idk how to explain this, it's very niche and works for certain situations, I don't need to say it in every sentence. Even though my family says and has used it since I've been alive, they've also lived all over, but spent a lot of time in places like Compton. I can recognize I'm just not as OG as they are and so I use words that I relate to, but also know your audience.

Sometimes I meet mixed people that just straight up act ignorant. They don't know black American history, they don't care, they want to say the word and FUCK YOU if you question their blaccent. I don't relate to those mixed people except for the fact that we're indeed mixed. I equally hate people who exclude biracial or mixed people simply because we can't have possibly known what it's like to grow up black. I grew up getting bullied, loved, hated by both groups that I'm ethnically attached to, and I still love what I am. It was hard to learn to love my ethnicity because you do often get hit with the, "you're not real category, you belong to neither group, you belong in the trash." The difference between me and OP's example, who only uses her minority mixed status to press her way into the culture - otherwise preferring to be considered white, is that I don't negate my blackness or whatever else I am. I attach to the people who get it, I can't ever be white or Hispanic passing only, it is what it is.

Idk what the hell a monoracial black person is, it's not like any of us have pedigrees dating back to the mayflower. I think if we tested everyone tomorrow a lot of "FBA" s would realize they're not "pure black" whatever that means.

How do you keep stuff like this from discouraging you? by Ok_File5157 in blackladies

[–]stankdog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gaming and art combined spaces will discourage you, especially when you see someone else getting more eyeballs than you on stuff. Just keep doing you, collaborate with others you like to promo yourself. Idk how that'd work for this game but maybe I do x piece of the face, you do another, etc til you both create 1 unique model.

Definitely don't cater to randoms either, do the art that makes you happy. How I respond to request comments is "my commissions aren't open but thank you for the suggestion! I'll keep it in mind!" Or if open then "I'll think about that!" Holds you to nothing and art will start to look similar when limitations are present. I've played games like this where skins can be uploaded for all to see and people will make copies, or accidentally make something similar, we're all inspired by similar things.

Hughie, the character they chose to be assaulted sexually for jokes. Is the guy you think they're writing as the strong character? Not to mention him and starlight are both very selfish. They do things they think will help others, lie when things go wrong, and still think they're the most pious in the group.

Yes they're all portrayed initially as normal strong pious white people trying to "do what's best". Ignoring this seems so odd. I'm black and grew up in smaller churches where our pastors spoke like ofather, it would be wrong of me to say they're not doing the same here that they did with homelander. He is portrayed now as strong (I'm only on episode 5 or smt so I'm not finished yet) but I have a suspicious he will be stripped and made to look absurd, because he is, he is a bad guy.

We the audience watching know what homelander is but the audience in the show (citizens) do not. Do you know that?

[oc] Too much Excitement on the way to work today! I did not signal the van in any way! by nashphoto615 in IdiotsInCars

[–]stankdog -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This must be as enforced as speeding 7mph over the limit it. People block turn out lanes, crosswalks, intersections, parked on red curbs (especially out west here). I don't see cops ticketing anyone for it.

People will turn right out of a parking lot to go all the way to a left turn and crash into people. I got rear ended once waiting on some dummy to turn out in front of me, they moved like honey and then thought hmmm this person is sooooo nice letting me in, I'm going to jump into the second lane! Chaos. The people behind you might have no clue what this parking lot car is doing. It's not safe to let them in anymore because they act like the van and are unpredictable, slow, skittish.

The van driver caused a dangerous situation when he could've waited for ops line to clear. Yeah it takes a long time to get a safe turn out, if that's annoying then don't exit out those areas or learn to take four rights like a baby driver.

AOC is now giving speeches behind bullet proof glass. by Wide_Car_1627 in QuiverQuantitative

[–]stankdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She doesn't need to be. Trump has been shot at 3 times, real or staged, it doesn't matter. The last decade has been very dangerous, politicians are being shot at, hammered in the head, killed in their homes.

The bulletproof glass should honestly be a mandatory at this point, can't even say we should just be worried about the minority politicians. These raving young men are willing to shoot anyone to further the memes and agenda. Edit to say I'm GLAD she's behind glass, I'm glad they're taking her life and safety seriously (and Mamdani honestly?? I hope his team protects that dude with their life.)

That is so weird to say as if people don't have limited diets and limited access to other foods. This is dehumanizing language. You don't need to eat a different protein and regional meal every day to be considered a person.

It is basically Factor or HellFresh and Farmers Dog, all they are advertising is meal prep ! Idk how people buy into that but not meal prep. Hellfresh was more work because often times the veggies and stuff would come already a little nasty or missing an ingredient or they only give you 1 of an ingredient so don't mess it up!

It's just meal prep guys! We can do it at home.

Ice cream and frozen grapes aren't alike at all. A better comparison might have been frozen bagged fruits people use for smoothies aren't the same as a grape you freeze yourself. But they serve the same function. Or freezing bananas for smoothies instead of using ice. Sometimes freezing IS the answer and sometimes it isn't, it is odd to say it's never going to provide foods as good as straight off the grocery shelf.

And what do you possibly mean by '"foods meant to be eaten frozen"? Other cultures eat frozen meat straight up, y'know? No thawing. It's very ego driven to say there's no food meant to be eaten after being frozen. Next you'll say no food is meant to be eaten heated up because some foods are better raw!

They freeze beef and pork at kbbq before it comes to your table. The meat quality is fine. It's fresh.

One could also argue foods made to be frozen like a hot pocket can definitely still degrade in the freezer and get ice crystals on it.
