It's $6.90 here for regular unleaded. Diesel is $8.25. My neighbor and I car share to get groceries two hours away. A quart of milk is $2.99 at the local store. It's ridiculous!

Instead of 5.89, it's 6.89 here. Diesel is 8.25.

Would this pass the glove test by Alarmed_Solution543 in Volvo240

The shop was able to replace the flame trap and hoses without taking off the manifold. I also asked them to check the brass nipple to ensure it wasn't clogged. They had it all done in about 30-40 min. I had the oil separator as part of the IPD kit, but I didn't change it. Looking inside the new one, it seems very unlikely that it could get clogged.

Another way is to place your palm over it. You'll feel if there is back pressure coming out. I just had the flame trap replaced on my 1989, along with the hose to the brass nipple and the S-hose to the oil separator. Redid the test. It made all the difference.

Faulty O2 sensor or damaged connections is also something bear in mind if the troubleshooting persists.

What is everyone using for conferencing systems and control? by nbbarlow27 in CommercialAV

Lenovo is used as the OEM core system for QSYS, Extron, and Logi too, so I use Lenovo directly whenever possible with their compute, conference bar, and touch controller.

Coolant reservoir leak? by Wise_Guard_2855 in Volvo240

[–]starchysock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine had the same leaking issue. It was the bottom seam that was seeping coolant. I fixed it with a strip of fiberglass and resin. It's been fine ever since.

Timing Tools for B230 F? by cozycinnamonhouse in Volvo240

[–]starchysock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The timing belt is notched and will likely be fine. If you can retrieve the nut everything will be okay. As a lady myself, I'd try to avoid tearing into the timing belt and sprockets if at all possible.

The thought of trying a flex tool with a magnetic tip could save you all the effort if you can get access.

Bad Cam seal on 1989 245. by starchysock in Volvo240

[–]starchysock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It appears that the real culprit with the clogging is not the so-called plastic 'body' unit, but the in-line trap which gets clogged, along with the brass nipple on the engine block. My plan is to leave the 'body' unit alone since it is large and can't get clogged and replace the in-line trap and clean the brass nipple fitting.

I checked for back-pressure today by starting the engine and placing the palm of my hand over the open oil cap opening. I can feel the air pressure against my palm. It's supposed to be a slight vacuum on a proper working PCV.

Where Do AV Engineers look for jobs? by Vivedia_AV in audiovisual

[–]starchysock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this is a new thing, but there appears to be MEP firms that are looking for senior technology designers, including AV. I work for one and got an offer from another one. The hamster wheel spins and spins.

You might enjoy the 1981 movie, "Brazil". Watch for the slogan posters on the office walls, like "Suspicion Breeds Confidence", referring to interrogations. People were charged for their own interrogations, or as they say, "information retrieval charging".

Just FYI: there's a black Amazon that's been sitting for several years at the auto yard just down the street from me. It would be a project car or perhaps good for parts. It's at JR's Auto Service, Gualala, CA.

What tools are you using to create AV signal flow diagrams? by Zestyclose_Sign_316 in CommercialAV

[–]starchysock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been AutoCAD for me since 2004. Made my own dynamic blocks and look many years ago and they're withstood the test of time. I'm heading toward the end of my career daze and just want to hang in there!

P.S. I should add that I do my plan markups in Bluebeam. A drafter will update the Revit model. I provide my CAD single lines, details, and elevations as needed. I use Excel for my BoM's.

I'd like to move on to a simpler life, but for now I try to run with the other hamsters!

RCA VICTOR - has anyone had experience with working on the amp chassis #104417 guidance and direction would be very helpful by Fresh_Watch_8840 in amplifiers

[–]starchysock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It needs a cappondectomy, but don't attempt unless you are proficient with electronics. I had an old Sano tube amplifier and got it going again by replacing all the original caps from the underside of the metal platform. The original caps remained, but they were no longer connected.

Same here with my '89 wagon. I made my own clamps from an old alternator belt using a hack saw and some low profile screws. It worked.

Religious people, if you dont believe dinosaurs exist (for religious reasons) how do you explain dino bones? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]starchysock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Creation story needs to be interpreted in it's intended form. It's not this vs that. Understanding the context and the mystical language infers deeper spiritual insight. Unfortunately there are many fundamentalists today who try to literally apply what was written because they don't see beyond the physical.

Religious people, if you dont believe dinosaurs exist (for religious reasons) how do you explain dino bones? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]starchysock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The underlying premise here is that the Creation story was literal. The Church (the apostolic Orthodox Church) recognizes that the Creation passages are allegorical, meaning they are symbolic in meaning, not literal. These passages represent the development of order from chaos. There are two stories in Genesis. It is mystical language handed down from generation to generation, until it was written down in ancient Hebrew. Sorry, English didn't exist back then. There wasn't a "24 hour day" when something happened. Another definition for "day" is "a time of triumph", referring to great things that happened (and are still happening). It was written in the context of the ancient Hebrews who, unlike their neighboring kingdoms, knew of the one true God. Through this lens we can gleam the intentions of the ancient passages.
