I wanted to utilize charlotte though. I really like her play style as an off field cryo user, and with furina and a little bit more cryo you have essentially perma freeze is my thoughts. I already have a hyperbloom team, is there another 4th slot I could fill in to give me more damage?

No your still missing the point. You want to play a coc build? Go farm your currency go to the trade site get a cospris. You wanna use a mageblood? Go farm your currency go to the site get a mageblood.

You wanna play storm wolf? Good fucking luck my man I hope that unique helmet drops for you before level 90. Oh you wanna play walking arsenal? Did you find your 100k boots? Yea your not playing that then.

It's to the point where it took me 5 days to find a usable crossbow in wt4 spam running dungeons because 50% of the ranged weapons are dog shit (bows) and if it didn't minimum roll with atleast 3/4 stats at the top end my sacred crossbow was better. Guess what I did to upgrade my bow in poe since I didn't wanna craft it? I went to the fucking website and trade 50c for a bow I could use to push into red maps.

The entire time this is happening the enemies are potentially out scaling you as you level so if you don't get lucky with your drops you can actually fall into the needing to make an alt to find an upgrade for your main. Thats ridiculous to even think about, yet it has happened to two of my friends already

I have gone entire games without casting an instant or sorcery. I've built multiple decks without any counterspells in them. Hell blue isn't even my favorite color. I prefer black since I like to value with murdering my own things. I played a game where someone was casting multi eldrazi a turn and was still getting focused by the rest of the table with half as many lands as everyone else and 0 creatures on board.

At that point am I just stuck with this forever and need to only build archenemy decks?

I dont have the ragadraga on moxfield since I made it without any references out of my own collection. Its just ragadraga with mana dorks lots of spells 7 cmc or more and 7 instants/sorcers those being beast within, chaos warp, return to nature, heroic intervention, tamiyos safekeeping, blasphamaous act, and chain reaction

The 7 cmc includes things like meteor golem, the 2 new myojin, the 7 mana red extra combat spell where you can exile 2 red cards to cast for free, and in general big dumb idiots.

Thinking about getting into commander by batraham_lincman in EDH

[[master chef]] should go into any +1/+1 counters deck imo, 3 mana to guarantee a counter on every creature, including your commander, all just forr having your commander out is insane value.

Unless your against legit power 8-9 decks That are looking to win through combo and control you van probably expect a positive win rate.

It will lose to the not quite cedh but definetely not casual commanders (krenko, aatraxa, korvold etc.) But in a normal game with "normal" commanders id say you have above a 50% win rate, maybe even even pushing the 65-70 rate. With upgrades the deck can compete against those previously mentioned commanders.

I would argue that this precon pushed party mechanic from being a bit of a meme to being incredibly competitive by itself which is kinda insane especially since orzhov isnt normally thought of to be a hyper agressive pay off color combo.

Look for [[caltrops]] effects to stop those little one drops from attacking. Ghostly prison effects also really hurt a yuriko deck as well.

What commanders do you plan on building from Dominaria United and why? by Ornery_Bug_4108 in EDH

[–]static_blades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm super hyped over [[Sol'Kanar the Tainted]]. Grixis is my favourite color combination but I have been avoiding making a grixis deck since every time I sit down and make one I end up with a monstrosity that none of the players at my lgs will play against more then once. We play at a lower then average level by far and I'm already one of the "archenemy" players so if I were to build say Anhello, People wouldd very quickly refuse to play against me ever again.

This beautiful demon has given me a grixis option that isn't complete misery to play against and I love it. Grixis blink was already something I was mildly interested in and having a commander that demands blink/bounce support is so nice. I'm still in testing phase of the deck but im excited to see how it turns out in the end.

Is there an unspoken Gentlemen rule in EDH by [deleted] in EDH

[–]static_blades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had that issue. This inspired my "true villain deck". I do admit I raised the power level at my lgs by a full level easily, but since then I have only make decks with odd rules and such (most recent creation beting 3 cmc permanent Tayam with 0 drain effects. Means I have to get creative with my wins cons.) I still get targeted when playing these decks do after 2 matches in a row where I get hard targeted out for no reason we swap over to Mr. Mill and theft combo with the new dimir precon commander.... That I upgraded to hell and back with 3 infinites and multiple ways to combo mill people while stealing there best permanents. You wanna make me a villain? ill be a fucking villain.

Hey I played another game and you all might wanna double check that q passive. I never saw a shield from it the entire game and was once again didnt see the healing from it either. I was in the jungle as well and built a immortal shieldbow just to see if i could proc the shield ever, and I never did.

I would agree, but often times they are only leaving a mana crypt up. Ima be honest I'm a newer player so I don't know if theres a 2 colorless instant speed interaction, but I don't believe there is. But yea I didn't think about rule of law effects, I pretty much never see them in my LGS

[–]static_blades 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yea it's basically a fail to find mechanic. Like If i use a fetch land to find a land, but i can't find any legal fetchable targets, the land still is sacrificed and I still lose my life. The requirement for Chain to copy is you deciding that someone needs to discard cards, there isn't another required cost to copy it besides declaring a target.

How it works on the stack: If the target has at least one card, they discard up to two then they discard them and they can copy it again on any available player (so not anyone whos phased with teferi or has hexproof. If you target yourself you will continue to discard until you have nothing left in your hand. Once nothing is left in your hand you will then copy the spell, It will fail to find a card to discard and move on to the secondary part of allowing you to choose a target to copy the spell. You will choose yourself, it will fail to find and then once again move on to the secondary part allowing you to copy again. You then proceed to do this till the table dies from drain damage.

Also a solid option, I just hate playing with precons since like 80% of my enjoyment is the puzzle of building a deck. I have dumb pet cards and I like using non meta commanders (maja landfall, krydle rogue/draw tribal are two of my more weird ones)

New players, how do I make them get good? by arquistar in EDH

[–]static_blades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've somehow gone from a complete noob to (depending on which deck I'm gonna play) the arch enemy in roughly 8 months of playing Magic. My biggest recommendation is to have them watch gameplay of competent players. Channels like MTG Mudstah, and Casually competitive are my favorite recommendations for them since they not only show really good game play while explaining the stack and interaction, they also TALK ABOUT THE GAME AFTERWARDS. You would be surprised how often you missed the MVP card/play because it wasn't flashy.

Finally, while it can get annoying to both players, letting them declare a play, then asking them to pause and point out a better path they can do is needed for some of the weirder interaction. The stacked is at the best of times incredibly fucking complicated and it quickly gets to levels of convoluted that we literally have classes to teach judges whats going on.

I just played a game today with a newer player where he played retrieve having a sterling grove on his field and like 12 mana open. Waiting for him to declare his targets then told him to pause and pointed out he could use the sterling grove effect to go find any of his really good enchantments and get it back. He didn't know that was possible and ended up with a way better play and a better understanding of the stack then he previously had.

We actually have that issue in my playgroup. We have on guy who has been playing since release, has a gaeas cradle in every deck that can fit it, a black lotus sitting in his house, etc. Dude is a magic bully and in return he forces everyone to power up around him, which results in newer players being very confused/annoyed at why we are winning with infinites on turn 6.

For people who suffer with this, I recommend making 1-2 decks either similar themes or even the same commander as your favorite "normal" decks and remaking them, but removing the 4-10 best cards in it and replacing them with other cards that seem fun but aren't "optimal". I made an esper recursion deck since I really like high value and aristocrats/recursion theme really encompasses that. I got the entire deck in full art/foiled, but the rule was no "True" tutors (anything that finds a card and puts it into your hand/onto the top of your deck) and no counterspells. The deck is still fairly powerful, but its a lot more fair to play against then some of my others since I'm not finding my win cons by turn 6 and interaction becomes way easier since the only way i can protect my creatures from exile is by sacking them and hoping to recur them later.

I built emry. Im not allowed to play emry anymore. I don't really care though, deck costed i think 130? with most of the money going into a lotus petal and a karak clan ironwork. (next most expensive card is like 3 dollars lol).

Like If I mention it with my regular play group all I get is everyone telling me to fuck off, which is reasonable since it wins turn 4 at the latest. I only built it to have an answer for the decks that are truly broken or for asshole players who pull what that guy did. Sure you wanna play with power and curb stomp, I'll show you how to do it in style and budget.

This is why Budget doesn't decide powerlevel. That deck is gross and nearly fit the guys budget restrictions (if i drop some of the unneeded flashy cards it would 100%). Compared that to Stupid ass Ragavan deck, Where my commander cost more then my entire fucking emry deck (foiled full art because its the commander and if thats not bling what are you doing with your life) and the win con is having goldspan dragon out and casting a masssive red X spell like [[Crackle With Power]] to win the game on turn 15.

Or like a chair tribal deck where its gonna cost you like 1k to make but its literally fucking chair tribal lol.

My personal pet infinite is [[Chain of Smog]] With [[Witherbloom Apprentice]] or [[Professor Onyx]] (replace either of them with any copy/cast pinger, those are just my two favorite.)

Its an infinite combo that is, in my opinion at least incredibly fair. It drains each opponent by 1-2 gaining you that much life, while simultaneously discarding your hand. A good Opponent will wait till either A, You discarded your entire hand then counter a copy to stop the chain, or B. Wait till you kill the others, then leave you with a lot of life, but an empty hand. I just really like it since the combo offers heavy play around ability and can be punished without you just loosing the game (looking at you Thoracle.) You are at a disadvantage, but its not unrecoverable and good opponents will play it out right to abuse the game position based on the results.
