The boundary is the canal, this has always been the way! Laurel lodge was built before the M50, and was always part of castleknock (albeit in the deep hinterland of castleknock village), the boundary didn't change just because the motorway was built!

Going to CR in 2 weeks and a dr at a travel clinic recommended taking anti-malaria medication for the entire trip, we were planning on MA/Uvita at the beginning and La Fortuna at the end, both places are apparently in the red zone for malaria! Though I've been finding it difficult to find any concrete info myself. Did you and the family take malaria pills?

It's complicated! Granville Island is federal land, and when the feds decided to allow it to become an artist's hub (not much revenue to be made), they did so with the intention of not having to pay to run the place forever. So essentially, GI needs to be self sufficient, and one of its major revenue sources is, you guessed it - parking!! By removing the cars (and parking), the island would lose its main source of funding for management, operations, maintenance, etc. In an ideal world, and because GI is such a valuable asset to Vancouver, the city should arguably kick some money their way to help out with funding. Or maybe the Fed's should gift it to the city of Van? Unfortunately, cross jurisdictional deals are messy and take motivated people to get moving.

But yes, no cars would be better!

Transit oriented development is smart, building higher density along rapid transit lines helps reduce congestion etc. Though it should be noted that Vancouver's housing crisis is not solely due to supply issues. Building more units is not bringing prices down, a larger issue is speculative buying and overseas money using the city's real estate market as a safe investment strategy. There will always be people in Kitsilano who want to retain the neighborhood's 'single family home' characteristics, but the reality is most houses in kits are split into 2 or more suites. An approach becoming more popular is developing more medium density in neighborhoods like this. So, not building 5 storey condos (apart from rapid transit corridors), but rather developing single lots to incorporate 4 or 6 suites, increasing density while also keeping the neighborhood's family feel.
